JCCHS Media Center Information
JCCHS has one full time media specialist and one part time media specialist. The media center hours are from 7:30AM-4:00PM, Monday through Friday. Students and faculty are able to access any of the
resources in the media center between these hours. Our media center does not handle the laptop carts , but they do handle the
televisions and VCRs.
Media Center Policy
The JCCHS media center does not have an individual policy. It has adopted the system wide policy. This policy is “Jackson County School System is committed to the relentless pursuit of educational excellence.”
This policy means that all Jackson County schools are to pursue educational excellence in all areas by any means necessary. In the media center, this means that we have to have as many materials available for the students as possible. It also means that the media center has to be inviting so that the students are willing to use its resources.

Media Center LocationThe media center at JCCHS is located in
the front of the school. When you walk
through the entrance, the media center is
through double doors located on the left side
of the hallway. The media center can be
accessed easily by all classrooms on the main campus. The media center is just
over 3020 square feet, which is just about right for our current
enrollment.
Circulation DeskThe circulation
desk is located in the very front of
the media center. When you enter the media center it will be on the
right side. Behind the circulation desk are two offices for the
media specialists.
Storage RoomThe storage room in the media center is located to the left of the offices behind
the circulation desk. This room contains all of the equipment that teachers can borrow for their
classroom such as televisions and
VCRs. Also in this room is the cold laminator. The
yearbooks are all archived here.
ComputersThe media center has twenty-three
computers. Twenty of the computers are on either side of the main section of the media center. The
other three computers are
beside the circulation desk. These three
computers are used by the drivers
education students when they are not
driving.
Seating
There are tables and chairs enough
for almost 40 students. Also
there are individual chairs designed for
reading.
ShelvingThe shelves in
the media center are
about 9 feet tall. The fiction
shelves go around the
border of the media center and the non-
fiction shelves are in the
back corner of the media
center.
Periodicals
All periodicals are shelved on one large tower
that blocks a large portion of
the fiction books from view. This
makes the periodicals easy
to steal.
OfficesThere are
three offices in the media
center. Two of the offices are
behind the circulation desk and
these belong to the media specialists. The other
office belongs to the
resource officer.

Improvements• The first improvement would be to organize the storage room so that everything can be easily found. The video resources should be taken out of the media specialists’ office and moved into the back storage room.
• The office on the left behind the circulation desk should be made into a study room.
• The non-fiction section should be moved to the main section of the room and turned so that the rows are easily visible from the circulation desk. The back section should be turned into a reading area.
• The resource officer’s office should be moved into the empty classroom beside the media center. His former office will be turned into a study room.
Improvements Continued• The reference shelves should be taken out. All of the reference materials should be placed on the shelf that is left in the former nonfiction section.
• Chairs should be added to the reading section where all of the tables were moved.
• In the main section of the media center, a row of computers should be added. This will increase the number of computers available for classes to 30 from 20.
• The blind corner in the former nonfiction section will be eliminated. This will help increase the security of the materials and the students.
• With all the changes, the media center will have designated sections which will make it more inviting to students and also easier for teachers to bring their classes to.
ConclusionThe JCCHS media center is small, but there is so much that can be done with the space. If the room were rearranged the students could be more easily supervised. Also, the media center could be more inviting and organized if it were rearranged. The
individual components of the media center are not in bad shape, minus the table in the back of the room
with the broken leg. This means that the things (such as tables, chairs and shelves) in the media center
can be used to make the media center a more inviting and educational space for the students and
faculty.
