• The heating plant for the school consists of two (2) steam boilers.

• The boilers are original from (1968) and burn natural gas with fuel oil backup.

• The boilers supply steam to two (2) steam to hot water heat exchangers. The hot water is then pumped to heating coils throughout the facility. These systems are beyond their useful life and require increasing maintenance.

• These boilers were submerged during a past flood and currently one of the heat exchangers has failed.

• The district proposes to convert the building heating system from steam to hot water. The existing boilers and heat exchanger would be removed. Install two new, high efficiency, dual fuel, hot water boilers and necessary equipment.

Picture of Boiler

• The heating plant for the pool building consists of one (1) steam boiler.

• The boiler is original from (1978) and burns natural gas with fuel oil backup The boilers supply steam to two (2) steam to hot water heat exchangers. One heat exchanger is for the heating coils throughout the facility. The other heats the pool over the winter months. This system is beyond its useful life and requires increasing maintenance and repairs.

• The district proposes to convert the heating system from steam to hot water. The existing boiler and heat exchanger would be removed. Install a new, high efficiency, condensing, dual fuel, hot water boiler.

We are asking you to support a referendum that will approve loaning $6,060,000 on November 5, 2013.

Although not on the ballot, we are also asking you to support a package plan that levies an additional $7,940,000.

The total package has been designed to mirror the taxation levels you are currently paying for the existing HS building.

What are we asking the community to support?

At this time, the School Board and Administration feel we should no longer continue with simply unacceptable levels of building maintenance. In addition, we believe that the total package and the unique financial timing make us as responsible as we can be. We are asking to fix virtually everything that has been neglected for the amount the community is already paying for building the current Crookston High School 18 years ago.
