EZHUTHACHAN COLLEGE OFPHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES
Affiliated to the Kerala University of Health SciencesApproved by the All India Council for Technical Education
Management Ezhuthachan National Academy is a registered
organization under the Travancore Cochin Scientific Literary
and Charitable Societies Registration Act 1955. The academy
is managed by eminent scholars, Doctors, Professors and
retired Vice-Chancellors etc.
Profession of PharmacyThe Profession of pharmacy is the most trusted one in
many countries like USA. The development of the
profession in India dates back to 1930s when the
pre-independent Govt. of India appointed a committee
to look into the requirements in the educational,
manufacturing and quality control of drugs marketed
in our country. The lack of qualified pharmacists and
testing laboratories were the reasons why quality
drugs were not available in India. With the framing of
the Pharmacy Act 1948 and the Drugs and Cosmetic
Act 1940 by Government, the situation started improv-
ing. The first college of pharmacy was formed in 1945
in the Banaras Hindu university. Later reputed institu-
tion like Birla institute of technology started conduct-
ing.
Education at ECPS is focused on equipping students with the
critical skills they need to compete in today’s globalized world
Today there are adequate number of colleges conducting pharmacy courses, regulated by the All India
Council for Technical Education, pharmacy council of India and State Pharmacy Councils. The coming up
of several colleges in our country itself is a pointer to the opportunities that are awaiting for the success-
ful students studying for the various courses in pharmacy.
Pharmacists are technologists in the manufacture and quality control of drugs. Post graduate students
and Ph.D holders find a placement in reputed research laboratories. The content of B. Pharm covers
subjects of varied nature like anatomy, physiology, pharmaceutical engineering and even hospital manage-
ment. It is worth mentioning that a pharmacist is an expert on drugs, whether it is manufacture or analysis
or evaluating the prescriptions.
Kerala, popularly known as “Gods own country” is
blessed with the birth of great poets, scholars,
philosophers and sages. Among all Thunchath
Ramanujan Ezhuthachan requires special
mention. He is known as the father of Malayalam
language and has made valuable contributions to
Keralites. It goes without saying, that genera-
tions after generations he is remembered in the
minds of all Keralites. The great poet had dream
of disseminating the treasure of knowledge,
wisdom and ethics to the subjects of Kerala.
Dr. Saji Kumar E.AGeneral Secretary
Ezhuthachan National Academy was
found in 1990 with the aim of stepping
into the academic field to bring up the
intellectual talents in the young genera-
tion and thus fulfill the desires of the
great poet Thunchath Ramanujan
Ezhuthachan. Ezhuthachan College of
Pharmaceutical Sciences, started in
2003, is a prestigious institution under the
Academy.
This noble venture is in line with the acad-
emy's objective of starting Educational
Institutions in Medicine, Pharmacy,
Dentistry and other Para-Medical cours-
es, rendering quality education in the
field of Pharmacy and thus producing
Pharmacists useful to the Society in all
aspects.
