EFFICIENCY AND PFC PERFORMANCE Cielo series LED drivers shows good efficiency, power factor and THD performances even when operating at low loads. Following are the characteristic plots for reference models. The test are performed connecting the Cielo driver to an LED load at maximum output power; the output current is then dimmed down with a standard 1-10V dimmer to obtain lower output power conditions.

INRUSH CURRENT DATA Due to its limited Inrush Current peak at power on, Cielo LED driver makes easier the selection of overcurrent protection devices such as circuit breakers. Referring to the different kinds of Circuit Breakers available on the market, the maximum number of connectable Cielo drivers is reported in the following table for each nominal input voltage.

NO LOAD POWER CONSUMPTION Cielo LED driver offers a low no load power consumption when the driver is with no load. The typical no load power consumption is reported in the following table for each nominal input voltage for the reference models.

DIMMING OPERATION Cielo LED driver is able to operate under the minimum value of the output voltage range in order to allow dimming functions through an analog signal (0-10V or 1-10V) or with a TRIAC (forward-phase or leading-edge)/ELV (reverse-phase or trailing-edge) signal. Therefore it is possible to reduce the output current starting from a full load condition even if the output voltage is located near the bottom value of the output voltage spec (Vout min) without any problem. The dimming profile is different for each Cielo model and it is reported in the following plots for the reference models, where the yellow area represents all the possible working points. The orange area below the minimum voltage is an operative “out of specification area” and consequently, can be reached only under dimming operations and it is not recommended for a normal operation. The green area is only for cold turn-on. The driver temporary accepts and controls an overload voltage higher than the maximum specified one (while the LEDs are cold), permitting therefore to operate very close to the upper limit of the range when the LEDs heat up. The final application should be designed in order to operate within the nominal operating ranges specified in the datasheet.

OUTPUT RIPPLE CHARACTERISTICS The ripple current value is usually higher when operating at minimum power towards the lower limit of the output voltage range, while it decreases for working voltages located near the upper value of the range. Following are reported the ripple current measurements and plots for each Cielo reference model (worst case input voltage: 230Vac) with a CREE CXA1304 LED. NOTE: Different LEDs may exhibit different ripple currents than shown in the following tables
Test Condition: 120 VAC, 60Hz; Nominal load (CH1): Output Current, (CH2): Output Voltage, (CH3) AC
Test Condition: 230 VAC, 50Hz; Nominal load (CH1): Output Current, (CH2): Output Voltage, (CH3) AC
Test Condition: 277 VAC, 60Hz; Nominal load (CH1): Output Current, (CH2): Output Voltage, (CH3) AC

TEMPERATURE DERATINGS The driver incorporates circuitry that prevents internal damage due to an over temperature condition. An over temperature condition may be a result of an excessive ambient temperature or as a result of an internal failure. When an over-temperature condition occurs, the output current of the driver will be reduced in order to limit case temperature rise.
LIFETIME VERSUS TOP CASE TEMPERATURE Cielo has been designed to achieve 50000Hrs of Life Time when operating at a Top case temperature of 70°C, at full load, nominal line voltages. The maximum operating top case temperature of the driver family is 90°C. The following graphs are representative of the lifetime expectation for the Cielo Led Driver Series reference models. The curves has been evaluated in standard operative conditions, with no added kit.

MTBF AND RELIABILITY The MTBF calculation is based on the model Telcordia Issue 2. The test is performed with a duty-cycle of 80% and an operating Ambient temperature of 40°C. The Relatability curves showed, reflect the following criteria: R(t)|40°C=e-t/MTBF , while the Failure Rate can be easily calculated with the following formula: F(t)=1-R(t).
