Llega el verano y con el buen tiempo la agenda se nos llena de planes para hacer y disfrutar; porque lo que apetece en esta época del año es salir de casa y que nos de el sol en la cara para cargarnos de energía positiva.

Estamos desbordados de noticias que no hacen más que hablar de crisis y, precisamente en estos momentos difíciles, lo que hace falta es salir y desconectar. Quedar con los amigos, con la familia, jugar con los niños… Disfrutar de esos placeres que la vida nos regala, porque son los que más valor tienen. No sirve de nada quedarse en casa lamentándose. Los problemas se ven de otra forma tras una terapia de energía renovada, que es la que te aportan tus amigos y familia. Reúnete con ellos en una terraza y brinda con una cerveza bien fresquita por todas las cosas buenas que el verano te va a deparar. Todas las cosas que te propongas las puedes conseguir, los límites sólo te los pones tú.

Summer is coming and with the good weather the agenda is full of plans for us to do and enjoy, because what we want at this time of the year is to be out of the house and for us to have the sun on our faces to load us with positive energy.

We are flooded with news that does nothing but talk about the crisis and, precisely in these difficult times, what is needed is to go out and disconnect. Hang out with friends, with the family, playing games with the kids… Enjoy these pleasures that life gives us because they are the ones that have the most value. There is no point in staying home complaining. Problems are seen in another way after a therapy of renewed energy which is what you bring your friends and family. Meet them on a terrace and provide them with a well chilled beer for all the good things that the summer will bring. All the things that you want you can have them. The only limits are the ones you put on yourself .

El Té es una bebida aromática que se prepara vertiendo agua caliente sobre las hojas de esa planta (Camelia Sinesis). Es la se-gunda bebida más consumida en el mundo, solo por detrás del agua.El té, como bebida, tuvo sus orígenes en China, durante la dinastía “Shang”, y su uso era con fines medicinales. En Europa lo introdujeron los ingleses durante el siglo XVII, y también fueron ellos los encargados de introducir su plantación en la India con el fin de acabar con el monopolio chino . Pero no es hasta el siglo XIX cuando su uso se masifica, convirtiéndose en una bebida popular entre todas las clases sociales.

Todos los diferentes tipos de té: blanco, amarillo, verde, oolong (azul), negro, rojo (Pu Erh); proceden de la misma planta: Ca-melia Sinesis, variando unos de otros simplemente en el procesado de los mismos. Siendo el té blanco en el que simplemente se dejan secar las hojas después de su recolección, en el té verde se corta la oxidación de la hoja rápidamente después de su recolección, mediante calor. En el Oolong se deja la hoja fermentar los bordes, siendo el maestro tetero el que decide el mo-mento exacto de cortar este proceso. En el té negro se deja fermentar totalmente la hoja, la cual adquiere su característico color oscuro. El té rojo, es un té post-fermentado, pues después de haberlo dejado fermentar en su totalidad, las hojas se introducen en unos grandes cestos de bambú, siendo sometidas a un proceso secreto, y se dejan curar durante un mínimo de 2 años en el interior de cuevas.Con los años se ha ampliado tanto la cultura del té, que incluso hoy hemos llegado al novedoso Gin Tea (Gin Tonic con té), que se realiza dejando el té infusionar en la ginebra durante unos minutos antes de añadirle el hielo y la tónica.

Tea is an aromatic drink that is prepared by pouring hot water on the leaves of the plant (Camelia Sinesis). It is the second most widely consumed beverage in the world behind water.Tea as a beverage had its origins in China during the “Shang” dynasty and its use was for medicinal purposes. In Europe it was introduced by the English during the 17th century and they were also the ones responsible for introducing its plan-tation in India in order to put an end to the Chinese monop-oly . But it was not until the 19th century when its use spread becoming a popular drink among all social classes.

All the different types of tea: white, yellow, green, oolong (blue), black, red (Pu Erh); come from the same plant: Ca-melia Sinesis, varying each other just in the processing pro-cedure. With white tea the leaves are simply left to dry after harvesting, in green tea the oxidation of leaves is stopped quickly after harvesting by means of heat. In Oolong the tea leaves are left to ferment around the edges. It is left to the Master Tea Grower to decide the exact moment to stop this process. Black tea has a fully fermented leaf from which it acquires its characteristic dark colour. Red tea is a post-fermented tea since after having been allowed to ferment in its entirety the leaves are put into big bamboo baskets being submitted to a secret process and allowed to be dried during a minimum of 2 years inside caves.

Over the years the culture of tea has expanded so that today we have come to the novel Gin Tea (gin and tonic with tea) which is made by putting the tea into gin for a few minutes to infuse the flavour before adding the ice and the tonic

Guadalest es una de las zonas más sensacionales de España ya que se sitúa encima de una montaña de granito con vistas espectaculares desde esta montaña y el pueblo. Guadalest obtiene su nombre del río que corre debajo de él y que ha sido encauzado para crear un embalse espectacular. Caminatas al aire libre y paseos en barco por el agua son pasatiempos populares. Aunque conducir al pueblo a veces parece una tarea peligrosa si se sigue la ruta turística las vistas bien valen cualquier duda que se pueda haber experimentado. Ahora también hay una nueva ruta más fácil para llegar a Guadalest desde Polop.

Rodeado por las montañas de Aitana, Serella y Xorta el pueblo fue un punto fuerte estratégico militar con fortificaciones que remontaban a 715 después de Cristo y la ocupación mora de España, quiénes lo consideraban de una gran importancia estratégica debido a su posición. Un gran terremoto en 1644 daña considerablemente a la fortaleza, el castillo de San José del siglo XII y casas del pueblo, y durante la Guerra por la Secesión Española, la explosión de una mina volvió a ocasionar serios daños.

El pueblo creció alrededor de la fortaleza. La población vivía originalmente dentro de la protección de los muros del castillo. Sólo es posible de entrar en el castillo por un túnel estrecho excavado de la roca en la puerta de San José. La zona dentro de las murallas incluye el antiguo calabozo de la ciudad, la torre del campanario, el castillo de San José, la Casa Orduña, la iglesia parroquial y el edificio fortificado moro conocido como Alcozaiba.

Las casas en las que los moros vivían en aquel momento fueron construidas fuera de la puerta de San José. Esta parte del pueblo, ‘El Arrabal’, con sus callejuelas y plazas es dónde se sitúan la mayor parte de las tiendas, talleres de artesanía, y restaurantes hoy en día. Teniendo en cuenta que Guadalest no está lejos de la ciudad de Benidorm, el pueblo se ha dedicado al turismo y es en consecuencia muy popular con los visitantes que acuden cada año para disfrutar de los encantos de la hospitalidad, el clima y las playas de España. 

Guadalest

Guadalest is one of the most stunning areas of Spain since it is located on top of a granite mountain with spectacular views from that mountain and the village. Guadalest takes its name from the river below it which has been dammed to form a spectacular reservoir. Nature walks and boating on the water are popular pastimes. Although driving to the village appears precarious at times if following the tourist route the views are worth any apprehension felt. There is now also a new easier road from Polop leading to Guadalest.

Surrounded by the Aitana, Serella & Xorta Mountains the village was a strategic military stronghold with fortifications. Dating back to 715AD and the period of Moorish occupation of Spain who considered it of great strategic importance because of its position. A strong earthquake in 1644 seriously damaged the fort, the 12th century castle of San José and houses of the village and during the War of the Spanish Succession, it again suffered serious damage from a mine explosion.

The town grew up around the fortress. Originally the population lived within the protection of the castle walls. The castle can only be entered by one small tunnel cut through the rock at the San José gate. The area inside the walls includes the ancient city dungeon, the bell tower, San José castle, the Orduña

House, parish church and the Moorish fortified building called Alcozaiba.

The houses the Moors lived in then were built outside the San José gate. This part of the town, “el Arrabal”, with its little streets and squares is where the majority of the shops, craft shops, museums and restaurants are today. As Guadalest is not far from the town of Benidorm the village has devoted itself to tourism and is therefore very popular with the visitors who come every year to enjoy the delights of the Spanish hospitality, climate and beaches.

Historia

El Fondo David Sheldrick para los Ani-males Salvajes (David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust o DSWT) fue fundado en 1977 por la Dra. Dama Daphne Sheldrick D.B.E (Dama Comandante de La Orden más Excelente del Imperio Británico) en ho-nor a la memoria de su esposo falleci-do, el famoso naturalista y guardia fun-dador del Parque Nacional de Tsavo del Este, David Leslie William Sheldrick MBE (Miembro de la Orden Más Excelente del Imperio Británico). Una gran parte de la experiencia en con-servación y lo que el Fondo sabe y prac-tica hoy en día se origina en lo aprendido por la Dama Daphne con David Sheldrick en los años previos a 1977. Desde el fallecimiento de su esposo, Da-phne y su familia han vivido y trabajado en el Parque Nacional de Nairobi, desde dónde se han esforzado hasta convertir el David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust y el Pro-yecto pionero de Huérfanos en la fuerza global para la preservación de la vida ani-mal que es hoy. El DSWT es hoy en día el programa más exitoso para el rescate y la rehabilitación de elefantes huérfanos en el mundo, y una de las organizaciones de preserva-ción pioneras para la protección de ani-males salvajes y de su hábitat en África del Este.

History

• The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was founded in 1977 by Dr Dame Daphne Sheldrick D.B.E, in honour of the memory of her late husband, famous naturalist and founding Warden of Tsavo East Na-tional Park, David Leslie William Shel-drick MBE.

• Much of the conservation experience and what the DSWT knows and practices today was learned by Dame Daphne with David Sheldrick in the years leading up to 1977.

• Since the death of her husband, Daph-ne and her family have lived and worked in the Nairobi National Park where they have built the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and its pioneering Orphans’ Project into the global force for wildlife conser-vation that is today.

• The DSWT is today the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilita-tion program in the world, and one of the pioneering conservation organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa.

Acerca de David Sheldrick:

David Sheldrick fue nombrado el Guardia fundador del Parque Nacional de Tsavo del Este, el Parque Nacional más grande y más importante de Kenia, en abril de 1948. Él tenía 28 años de edad en ese momento.

Logros:Bajo su liderazgo en el Parque Nacional de Tsavo, los logros notables de David Sheldrick incluyen:

• Fue la primera persona en comenzar una colección detallada de todas las plantas comidas por elefantes, mucho tiempo antes de que a cualquier cientí-fico ni se le había ocurrido estudiar ele-fantes. Cada planta fue analizada por su contenido mineral y su valor nutricional.

• En los comienzos del Parque Nacional, no existía ni una carretera o edificio. 28 años más tarde el parque estaba com-pletamente desarrollado con 1087 kiló-metros de carreteras para turistas para todos los tipos de clima, 853 kilómetros de carreteras administrativas, y 287 de vías contra la caza en el norte, un Cuartel General y un Taller. También construyó la vía extensa de hormigón a lo largo del río Galana, que ha permitido el acceso al área norteña remota del parque durante los últimos 60 años.

About David Sheldrick:

David Sheldrick was made the founder Warden of Tsavo East National Park, Kenya’s largest and most important Na-tional Park in April 1948. He was 28 years old at the time.  

Achievements:During his leadership at the Tsavo Natio-nal Park, notable achievements of David Sheldrick include:

• He was the first person to start a com-prehensive collection of all the plants eaten by Elephants, long before any Scientist had even thought of studying elephants. Each plant was analysed for mineral content and nutritional value.  

• He was the first to study the movement pattern of the elephant herds.

• He was the first person to rescue and hand-rear orphaned elephants, but only

• Más importante, estableció la base que ha sido el modelo de actuación para la Fuerza paramilitar de Guardias del Terre-no enfocada en combatir las incursiones armadas de cazadores furtivos.

En reconocimiento a su trabajo, David fue mencionado en los Honores de Cumplea-ños de la Reina en 1962, cuándo le conce-dieron un M.B.E. Su nombre también fue inmortalizado en la Lista del Honor del Fondo Mundial para la protección de la Naturaleza (World Wildlife Fund). En 1976 pasó a encabezar la Unidad de Planificación del Departamento nueva-mente creado para la Conservación y la Gestión de la Vida Salvaje, pero falleció 6 meses después. Después de su muer-te, el David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust fue creado en su memoria, y como su presi-

denta, Daphne ha estado dirigiendo sus esfuerzos de preservación desde enton-ces. El legado de David sobrevive en los sistemas que creó para la gestión de Ts-avo y la vida salvaje en general en Kenia, especialmente en el campo de la ética y la ganadería de animales salvajes.

Daphne Sheldrick

Daphne Sheldrick está comprometida ya toda su vida con la protección de la na-turaleza. Nacida en Kenia el 4 de junio de 1934, creció rodeado de animales, tanto salvajes como domésticos.

Viviendo en un Parque Nacional, tuvo la oportunidad de observar y estudiar la

mayoría de las especias tanto en el terre-no como en una situación de cautiverio. Criar sus crías huérfanas le ha dotado de una comprensión única y sin igual de la ‘historia interna’ de criaturas salvajes, co-nocimiento de sus mentes y emociones, del papel del instinto en su impacto sobre el comportamiento, la importancia del ol-fato y de la química en sus vidas diarias, capacidades telepáticas, individualismo, vocalizaciones y la habilidad de interpre-tar las sutilezas de un lenguaje corporal complejo. Durante más de 25 años, desde 1955 has-ta 1976, Daphne Sheldrick vivió y traba-jó con su esposo tardío, David Sheldrick. Durante este tiempo crió y rehabilitó para la vida salvaje a elefantes salvajes de a partir de los dos años de edad, rinoceron-

those over two years survived. Other orphans including Black Rhinos and ante-lope were also hand reared. • At the beginning of the National Park, not one road or building existed. Twenty-eight years later the park was fully developed with 1,087 kms of tourist all weather roads, 853 miles of administrative roads and 287 kms of anti-poaching tracks in the North, Headquarters and a Workshop. He also constructed the extensive concrete cau-seway across the Galana river, that has pro-vided access to the remote Northern area of the Park for the past 60 years.   • More importantly, he left the blue print that has been the role model for today’s paramilitary Field Force Rangers geared to combating the armed incursion of bandit poachers.

For his work, David was honoured in the 1962 Queen’s Birthday Honours when he was awarded a D.B.E. His name is also im-mortalised in the World Wildlife Funds Roll of Honour.   

In 1976 he moved to head the Planning Unit of the newly created Wildlife Conserva-tion & Management Department, but died 6 months later. After his death, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was created in his memory, and as its Chairman, Daphne has been guiding its conservation activities ever since. David’s legacy lives on through the systems he installed for the manage-ment of Tsavo and wildlife generally in Kenya, particularly in the sphere of wildlife husbandry and ethics.

Daphne Sheldrick

Daphne Sheldrick’s involvement with wil-dlife has spanned her lifetime. Born in Kenya on the 4th June 1934, she grew up amongst animals, both wild and domestic.

Living within a National Park, she had the opportunity to observe and study most

species at both the field level and in a captive situation. Rearing their orphaned young has brought to her a unique and unparalleled understanding of the “insi-de story” of wild creatures, knowledge of their minds and emotions, the role of instinct where it impacts on behaviour, the importance of scent and chemistry in their daily lives, telepathic capabilities, individuality, vocalizations and the ability to interpret the subtleties of a complex body language.

For over 25 years, from 1955 until 1976, Daphne Sheldrick lived and worked alongside her late husband, David Shel-drick. During that time she raised and re-habilitated back into the wild Elephants aged two and upwards; Black Rhinos, Buffaloes, Zebra, Eland, Kudu, Impala, Duikers, Reedbuck, Dikdiks, Warthogs and many smaller animals such as civets, mongooses and birds.

The key to her success has been her life-long experience of wild creatures, an in-depth knowledge of animal psychology,

Desde la muerte de su marido en 1977 ha vivido y trabajado en el Parque Na-cional de Nairobi, con su casa también asumiendo la función de Guardería para los Huérfanos. Es aquí dónde exi-tosamente ha criado a mano a más de 140 elefantes huérfanos recién nacidos, algunos de apenas horas de edad, la primera vez que se haya logrado esto.Al completar sus dos años de depen-dencia de la leche, estos huérfanos, junto con la familia humana de Guar-dias que reemplazan la familia elefante perdida, crecen en el Parque Nacional de Tsavo, dónde se mezclan libremente y a su antojo con las hordas salvajes y eventualmente se integran completa-mente de nuevo en la comunidad sal-vaje.Algunos de los huérfanos de Daphne ahora han tenido crios nacidos en liber-tad que han traído de vuelta para en-señarlos a su familia humana. Daphne tambien ha criado y rehabilitado con exito a mas de una docena de rinoce-rontes negros a partir de recién naci-dos, algunos de los cuáles han tenido sus propios crios que han compartido con sus amigos humanos. Su experiencia ha sido clave en ayudar a muchos otros elefantes a lo largo de África, en Sudáfrica, Zimbabwe, Nami-bia, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Ca-merún y Chad, por citar algunos países, así como elefantes en India, Tailandia, y Sri Lanka.

Logros: • Daphne es una autoridad internacional-mente reconocida en la crianza de ani-males salvajes y es la primera persona en haber perfeccionado la fórmula para la leche y la ganadería necesaria tanto para elefantes y rinocerontes lactantes.

• En reconocimiento a su labor de pre-servación, Daphne Sheldrick fue conde-corada con un MBE por la Reina en 1989 e incluida en la elitista Lista Global 500 del Honor en 1992, estando entre las pri-meras 500 personas de todo el mundo que han recibido este reconocimiento es-pecial.

• En la lista de Honores de Año Nuevo del 2006, la Reina Elisabeth IIª nombró a la Dra. the behavioural characteristics of the di-fferent species, and, of course, that most essential component, a sincere and deep empathy.

Since the death of her husband in 1977, she has lived and worked in the Nairobi National Park, her home duplicating as the Orphans’ Nursery. It is here that she has successfully hand-reared over 140 new born Elephant orphans, some from just hours old, the first time this has ever been achieved.

Having completed their two milk depen-dent years, these orphans, along with the human family of Keepers who replace the lost elephant family, grow up in the Tsavo National Park, where they mingle freely and at will with the wild herds and even-tually become fully integrated back into the wild community.

Some of Daphne’s orphans have now had wild born young, which they have brought back to show their human family. Daphne has also successfully raised and rehabilitated over a dozen Black Rhino orphans from new born, some of whom have had wild born young which they have shared with their human friends.

Her expertise has been instrumental in helping many other elephants Afri-ca wide, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Na-mibia, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Uganda and Cameroon, Chad to name a few as well as elephants in India, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.

Achievements:• Daphne is a recognized International authority on the rearing of wild crea-

tures and is the first person to have per-fected the milk formula and necessary husbandry for both infant milk depen-dent Elephants and Rhinos.

• In recognition of her conservation work, Daphne Sheldrick was decorated by the Queen in 1989 with an M.B.E. and put onto U.N.E.P.’s elite Global 500 Roll of Honour in 1992, among the first 500 peo-ple worldwide to have been accorded this particular honour.

• In December 2001 her work was honou-red by the Kenya Government through a prestigious decoration - a Moran of the Burning Spear (M.B.S.), and in 2002 by the B.B.C. when she received their Lifeti-me Achievement Award. • In the November 2005 issue of the Smithsonian Magazine, Daphne Sheldrick was named as one of 35 people worldwi-de who have made a difference in terms

Raquel Arias Jiménez actual MISS VENUS ESPAÑOLA INTERNACIONAL, una joven de 21 años con residencia en la capital española Madrid. Actualmente cursa sus estudios universitarios de turismo. Desde muy pequeña su ilusión era dedicarse al mundo de la moda y tener la oportunidad de destacar en este campo.

En el 2012 se hizo acreedora de la coro-na de Miss Venus Española Internacional lo que le dio la oportunidad de repre-sentar a España internacionalmente en el certamen de gran renombre a nivel mundial como es el MISS TOURISM INTERNATIONAL, su participación fue muy destacado dejando el nombre de su patria muy en alto obtuvo algunos premios y títulos en su paso por este certamen que se llevó a cabo el pasado 31 de diciembre en Malasia.

Raquel además de estar en las pasare-las más importantes del país, también realiza actividades relacionadas con su título junto con la organización de Venus World, sin descuidar sus estudios ya que sus aspiraciones futuras son promover el turismo de España a nivel nacional e internacional.

Y según Raquel Arias “ El éxito es un viaje y no el destino, por eso tengo que decir que a pesar de mi juventud mi viaje a empezado pero no es el destino, algún día este viaje acaba pero ¿Cuán-to podría tardar?. Podría decir que mis sueños y metas se van cumpliendo poco a poco a base de esfuerzo y de creer en mi misma, quién me iba a decir que un día representaría a España con lo que más me gusta hacer y en un certamen que va relacionado directamente con lo que estudio y con lo que siempre he soñado destacar y a través de mí, tam-bién mi país por su cultura, tradiciones y su gente. Considero que las situaciones

inesperadas, son a veces donde se en-cuentra las grandes oportunidades, por eso con ganas alegría e ilusión llevo la corona de Miss Venus Española Interna-cional.”

Raquel Arias Jiménez is the current INTERNATIONAL SPANISH MISS VENUS who is a young 21-year-old resident of the Spanish capital Madrid and is taking a course at the University of Tourism at the moment. Since she was little she already had the illusion to dedicate herself to the world of fashion and to get the opportunity to excel in this field.

In 2012 she became invested with the Crown of International Spanish Miss Venus which gave her the opportunity of representing Spain in the internationally renowned global contest as MISS TOURISM INTERNATIONAL, her participation was very outstanding bringing the name of her country to the forefront. She won some awards and titles participating in this event which was held in Malaysia last 31st December.

In more, Raquel was present on the most important catwalks in the country. She

also performed activities relating to her title together with the Venus World Organization without neglecting her studies since her future aspirations are to promote the tourism of Spain at national and international levels.

According to Raquel Arias “success is a journey and not the destination, so I have to say that in spite of my youth my journey has started but it is not the destination, someday this journey must end but how long could it take? I could say that my dreams and goals are gradually being fulfilled based on my efforts and belief in myself, who is to say one day I will represent Spain with something that I like doing more and in a contest that is directly related with what I am studying and in which I have always dreamed to excel and through me, also my country by its culture, traditions and its people. I believe that unexpected situations are sometimes where you find the greatest opportunities, for this reason I took the crown of International Spanish Miss Venus with enthusiasm and joyful illusions”
