Setena is the Express Goldfields’ founding editor and a stalwart of the Express Group’s oldest publication, Express Mangaung, where he cut his teeth in journalism in the mid- 1990’s. “I am humbled and it is a great compli- ment to receive this award. It never crossed my mind that something so inspiring and positive could happen in my career. I received the award because of team effort and good working relationships with the different departments. “I am very thankful to those who voted for me. Setena said he dedicated the award to all those people who supported him at work and outside his work environment. THE Free State Department of Education will host the Adult Education and Training (AET) Lekgotla to come up with strategies to change the face of adult learning and recruit more people to enrol in the sector. The lekgotla, which will be held at the President Hotel in Bloemfontein today and tomorrow, starting at 10:00, will also look into creating a platform for AET practi- tioners to have constructive engagements on the future of the sector in terms of functionality and good performance. “AET plays a vital role in developing adults and out-of-school youths to reach their full potential and actively participate in economic activities of the country,” says Tate Makgoe, Free State Education MEC. Some of the challenges concerning adult learning that will be addressed are learner registration and attendance, as well as the poor scholastic performance of learners in comparison with mainstream schools. There are 200 Public Adult Learning Centres, three of which are for learners with disabilities. Bearing testimony to the importance of adult learning is Sheila Putsoane, who dropped out of school in 1996 when in gr. 10. 4 EXPRESS, WEDNESDAY 3 DECEMBER 2014
THIS year the world is observing the16th edition of the campaign of 16 Daysof Activism of no Violence againstWomen and Children.
The United Nations (UN) set aside aperiod between 25 November and 10December to highlight the plight of abuseand violence against women and chil-dren.
This was triggered by astronomicalstatistics of murder, rape and physicalassault against women and children bymen.
Since the evolution of man, women andchildren have always been subjected toone form of abuse or another.
Many children have been misplaced asa result of running away from theirviolently abusive father figures.
Many women are serving long prisonsentences after attempting to protectthemselves against their violent malepartners.
Financial dependence of women onmen, and sometimes culture, perpetuatesthis high level of violence and abuse.
As a husband and a father, I wouldalso like to be counted in the fightagainst violence against women andchildren.
Though men remain the principalperpetrators of violence on women andchildren, I would like to awaken the
world to the rarely-documented phenome-non of women-on-women violence andchild-on-child violence.
In empoverished communities there isa growing tendency of mothers whoviolently marry off their young daughtersto older men for money.
On the African continent we often hearof women who assist their HIV-positivepartners to forcefully sleep with virgingirls in an attempt to cure them of thevirus. Just recently, video footage of aUgandan nanny physically abusing atwo-year-old girl went viral on socialmedia networks.
There are also women who are front-runners of brothels that drug young girlsand coerce them into prostitution.
All these dreadful factors prove that allwomen are not just innocent victims inthe whole cycle of violence and abuse.
Equally excruciating is the plight ofchild on child violence.
Often we hear of three-year-old girlsbeing raped by their 15-year-old neigh-bour.
South Africa has witnessed videofootage of fatal stabbing incidents of boylearners at schools.
Also gaining momentum is the “cat-fights” of girl learners that frequently goviral on social media.
In townships police are inundated withcases of young boys being abducted bytheir peers, forcing them into traditionalinitiation schools without parentalconsent.
Unfortunately, in our South Africancontext, most cases of child on childviolence are difficult to prosecute due totechnicalities in the Child Justice Act.
The world must be wary that though
focus must remain steadfast on menas principal abusers, ample attentionshould also be paid to women andchildren who are active perpetratorsof violence.
As long as women and children areaccomplices to violent and abusive men,all the hard work and campaigning willbe in vain.
As women and children have been putinto the bracket of victims of violenceand abuse, they must also play their partand refrain from violence against oneanother.) Send us your contribution for thiscolumn of no more than 500 words, accompanied by a head-and-shouldersphoto of the writer, to [email protected].

} Pastor Mutombo Kumwimba
THIS world is not our home, weare just passing through. Therefore, we Christians should
hold on to the promises of JesusChrist until we are glorified in Himfor eternity.John 16:33 – I have told you these
things so that in me you may havepeace. In this world you will havetrouble; but take heart! I haveovercome the world. Here we see that Jesus never
gave any promise of a life free oftrouble, but rather a comfortingpromise of an absolute peace inHim.The fact that you as a Christian
are in pain, lost your loved one, lost your job, does not mean Jesusis far from you. No.Job was also in agonising pain,
lost everything, including hisfamily, yet God was with him. Thatis why he was restored even to ahigher level than before. The fact that you suffer bareness
does not mean God has turned Hisback on you. No.
Abram and Sarah also faced asimilar challenge. Hanna faced thesame problem, yet God was close toher. That is why when she wasblessed with a child, he was not anordinary child, but a great prophetof God.Your poverty does not mean you
are on the way to hell. Lazarus inLuke 16:14 was a poor beggar butafter his death he went straight toheaven, not because of his povertybut because his heart was in rightstanding with God.Dear brothers and sisters, do not
let your situation mislead you. Youshould know that God has some-thing to say in every situation.Today we see Christians compa-
ring themselves to others accordingto their possessions, wealth and
status. If you drive a big car, thenyou are very blessed. If you live inthe northern suburbs, then yourGod is faithful to you. Where arethese type of things in the HolyBible? That is why the fear of God is out
of our hearts today. We can drink, smoke, fornicate, corrupt as long asmoney is in the pocket, food on thetable, cars parked, we believe all isalright, God is still supporting us.We translate possessions as
equivalents to God’s presence inspite of how we behave before him.May the Lord have mercy on us all.You can drive great cars, have
millions in the bank and fornicatewith whoever you want, but youwill never be satisfied. Satisfactionis in Jesus only.On the other hand, the poor
should not deceive themselves bythinking that God will hear themfaster because of their poverty. Theonly promise of satisfaction andpeace is found in Jesus.Let us reposition our hearts
toward Jesus so that we too may bea part of His promise.) To hear and learn more foryour healing and deliverances,Jesus is the only way. Pleasevisit us at the Joe SolomonSchool on Sundays at 09:00. Youcan also SMS us your prayerrequests to 071-214-9404.We take this opportunity to alsoinvite you to the candle lightservice on 31 December from21:00.Shalom.
Be encouraged by theWord, and not wealth

by giving me a magic ring which brought back hope into mylife. It cost me only R800 and for the first time in my life I went
into a casino with my wife and we used our magic to hit ajackpot. Now my house and car are paid off and my childrenare back in private schools - now life is so wonderful, so in

} Sidwell Guduka
THE stage is set for the mouth-wateringshowdown between provincial rivals FreeState Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic at theCharles Mopeli Stadium today.Kick-off is at 18:00.The Free State derby brings out the
hunger in both teams, with Ea Lla Kotohaving once received a R500 000 bonusafter massacring Phunya Sele Sele in adead rubber contest that meant nothing tothe Bethlehem side, but almost led to therelegation of Celtic – that was at the endof the 2008-’09 campaign.Phunya Sele Sele, who were sitting third
from the bottom of the log with one matchto spare before the end of the season, needed a win at all cost to avoid beingdemoted to the National First Division(NFD), but they were walloped 5-1 by amerciless Stars team in Qwaqwa. The Bloemfontein side were, however,
lucky to avoid relegation by the skin oftheir teeth as Thanda Royal Zulu, whowere trailing Celtic with a point, couldnot beat Maritzburg United in the otherbottom of the table clash on the sameday.Though it is has almost been six years
since that fateful day, Celtic fans andplayers alike who were part of the teamthen, still have fresh memories of thatparticular fixture. But anyway, that match is water under
the bridge.History suggests results preceding the
Free State derby are nothing more thannumbers on a piece of paper that have nobearing on what transpires in one ofMzansi’s biggest matches. So Stars’ three consecutive losses, as
well as Celtic’s 1-0 to Ajax Cape Town lastWednesday, will have no impact on thegame played at the Charles Mopeli Sta-dium today. Both coaches, Kinnah Phiri of Ea Lla
Koto and Ernst Middendorp of Bloemfon-tein Celtic, would agree that the derby isnot only about the three points that are atstake, but pride too. With the bragging rights also on the
table for the eventual winners, a team thatstarts well by settling its nerves first, something that accompanies such a high-profile match, is likely to have the upperhand. While the hosts will be relying for goals
on Richard Henyekane, Rudolph Besterand Abdul Adam Basit, the visitors willpin their hopes on Lerato Lamola, Dumisa-ni Zuma, Tumelo Mogapi and ThapeloMorena.) For more sports stories visit the websitewww.express-news.co.za.

Things in my life wentfrom good to worse in avery short time. My lovelive, financial problemsjealousy, my husband’s
family were all against me.Luckily I came acrossSonia through a friend. She helped me and
showed me my enemiesthrough a mirror for only R200. She did miracles in my life. She told me all my problems without mentioning anythingto her. She showed me the people who worked hard tosee me suffering some of which were my friends and
relatives. She performed a special prayer, washed awaymy bad luck and cleansed my home. Gave me a lovepotion with a ring for my financial problems in less thanfive days, my husband was always by my side and my
enemies confessed and asked for forgiveness. Come andvisit me at Bayswater.
