Remember, it's Not Just a Grid Control! The ExpressQuantumGrid
Suite includes the best grid control in the business - so good in
fact, in a review by Delphi Informant Magazine it was said of the
QuantumGrid, "After my experience with ExpressQuantumGrid and
ExpressInspector... I can't imagine developing a Delphi database
application without these tools. The grid is the most capable VCL
grid I've found. Just by using a small part of its capabilities and
customization options, my applications seem more professional, and
the users enjoy the editing capabilities." Page 2 of 3406

Filter Row. A specially designed Filter Row allows you to apply
a filter condition directly within the grid. Use the Views
FilterRow.Visible and FilterRow.ApplyChanges options to activate
the Filter Row and specify its filter update mode. Checked Lists in
Column Filter Dropdowns. Column filter dropdowns now use checked
lists. Use the View's Filtering.ColumnPopup.MultiSelect and
Filtering.ColumnPopup.ApplyMultiSelectChanges options to activate
checked lists and specify their filter update mode. A grid items
Options.FilteringPopupMultiSelect property allows you to control
the appearance of a checked list for individual columns and card
rows. Synchronized Filter Dropdowns. Filter dropdowns can now be
populated only with currently available items (that have not been
filtered out). To enable this feature for an entire View, use the
Views Filtering.RowFilteredItemsList and
Filtering.ColumnFilteredItemsList properties. To enable this
feature for individual columns and card rows, use a grid items
Options.FilteringFilteredItemsList property.
Improved Date/Time Value Handling:l
More flexible filtering capabilities: You can set the Views
DateTimeHandling.IgnoreTimeForFiltering property to True to force
the View to ignore the time portion of date/time values. This means
that filter dropdowns will be populated with dates without their
corresponding time element. In either case, the time element is
taken into consideration when you sort data. Time intervals and
time ranges relative to the current date (such as a year, month,
previous week, etc.) in filter dropdowns displayed for date/time
columns. The availability of these advanced filter items is
controlled by the View's DateTimeHandling.Filters property. You can
extend the built-in collection of date ranges with your own, by
handling the OnInitFilteringDateRanges events for a View and an
item.
l
More flexible grouping capabilities: The Views
DateTimeHandling.Grouping property allows you to specify how
date/time values should be combined into groups. You can specify
grouping options for each column, using the columns
DateTimeGrouping property. Similar to the filtering capabilities,
the most frequently needed group types are built-in. You can easily
add custom grouping types by handling a specially designed
OnInitGroupingDateRanges event for a View and a column. As with
filter conditions, group types are represented by the same date
range classes. Once created, a custom date range can be used both
to filter and group data.
l
Customizable formats for dates in filter dropdowns and group
rows (via the Views DateTimeHandling sub-properties).
Charting CapabilitiesPage 4 of 3406
l
l
l
l
l
Three New Chart Types: Line, Pie, and Area Charts. Use the Views
DiagramLine, DiagramPie, and DiagramArea properties to access their
appearance settings. Data Mining Using Data Groups and Drill Down.
This feature has much in common with group summaries in Table
Views. You can specify a field whose values will be used to group
data. The chart will display values calculated against each group
instead of each individual value. Refer to the Creating Data Groups
in Chart Views topic, to learn about this feature. End-User Chart
Customization Capabilities. A new UI element a Toolbox allows
straightforward end-user chart customization by means of the
following tools: data level navigator, chart customization button,
and diagram type selector. Use the Views ToolBox property to
control the general appearance of the Toolbox. Paging Category
Scrolling. You can specify the maximum number of categories
simultaneously displayed in a chart, via the Views
OptionsView.CategoriesPerPage property. Customizable Value Axis
Display Range. You can restrict the display range of value axes
based upon plotted chart values, and also provide arbitrary
upper/lower axis limits (via the diagrams AxisValue.MinMaxValues,
AxisValue.MinValue, and AxisValue.MaxValue properties).
Card View Featuresl
l
l
l
l
l
Expandable Category Rows. To create a category, add a new row
and set its Kind property to rkCategory. Data rows that follow a
category automatically become its children. If there is another
category row, it starts its own new category, etc. Collapsing a
category within a card affects all cards. This allows end-users to
hide unnecessary fields with just a single click. More Flexible Row
Layout. You can use the Views RowLayout property to specify whether
rows should be arranged vertically, one under another, or
horizontally from left to right. At design time, you can create
whatever layout you need by simply dragging rows to their desired
position. And you can allow end-users to do the same. For this
purpose, enable the Views OptionsCustomize.RowMoving and
OptionsCustomize.LayeredRows properties. Automatic Card Width
Adjustment. If the Views OptionsView.CardAutoWidth option is
enabled, cards are automatically resized to fit into the View. So,
you can resize the View to display more or less cards. Show Hidden
Empty Fields While Editing. When the Views OptionsView.EmptyRows
option is disabled, the View automatically displays all fields when
an end-user enters edit mode. Customizable Card Spacing. Use the
Views OptionsView.CardIndent property to create space between cards
based upon your requirements. Selection Frame Around a Selected
Card. To enable this feature, activate the View's
OptionsSelection.CardBorderSelection option.
Table View and Banded Table View Featuresl

l
l
Easy Column and Band Reordering. The Quick Column Customization
dropdown now allows you to reorder columns. Simply drag the desired
entry to a new position. The same is true for the Quick Band
Customization dropdown. Use the Views
OptionsCustomize.ColumnsQuickCustomizationReordering and
OptionsCustomize.BandsQuickCustomizationReordering options to
enable this feature. Customizable Group Summary Layout. With v6,
you can display group row summaries under corresponding columns
(via the Views OptionsView.GroupSummaryLayout option) and also
control their horizontal alignment (via the desired columns
GroupSummaryAlignment option). Group Footer Availability at the
Column Level. Use a grouping column's Options.GroupFooters property
to display footers for the corresponding groups. Sorting Data
Groups by Group Summary Values. Refer to the Sorting Data by Group
Summaries topic, for more information on this feature. Multiple
Summaries per Column in the View's Footer and Group Footers. To
enable this feature, use the Views OptionsView.FooterMultiSummaries
and OptionsView.GroupFooterMultiSummaries options.

all or some Views. These features are shown in no particular
order.Page 5 of 3406

The ExpressQuantumGrid now uses the ExpressPageControl to
display detail tabs. This means, that detail tabs now offer you the
same appearance and end-user features as our advanced page control.
Use the grids LevelTabs property to access appearance settings of
detail tabs. Images in Detail Level Tabs. Use the grids
LevelTabs.Images and LevelTabs.CaptionAlignment properties to
specify the source image list and the position of tab captions. To
assign images to individual tabs, use the appropriate levels
ImageIndex property. To hide detail tabs whose corresponding
details are empty, set a master level's Options.TabsForEmptyDetails
property to False. To change the "No data to display" text, which
is displayed by default in an empty View, assign the desired Views
OptionsView.NoDataToDisplayInfoText property. You can handle a
column or card row's OnGetCellHint event to manually provide hint
text, size and position for each cell of this column or row.
Alternate Captions for Columns and Card Rows. With v6, you have two
options to distinguish columns and card rows that have the same
caption, if they were moved to the Customization Form, Group By box
or used to customize a filter condition in a filter builder dialog.
You can choose from the automatic caption update dependent on the
column header position (via the Views
OptionsView.BandCaptionsInColumnAlternateCaption or
OptionsView.CategoryRowCaptionInRowAlternateCaption property) or
manually specify their captions via the corresponding column or
rows AlternateCaption property. New Filter Button Behavior. By
default, filter buttons are now displayed only when the mouse
pointer hovers over a column header. Use the Views
OptionsView.ShowColumnFilterButtons option to enable the old-style
filter button behavior. Optional Column Caption Display. You can
hide a column's caption within a View by setting this column's
Options.ShowCaption property to False. Use the Views
OptionsCustomize.ColumnFiltering option to disable filter dropdowns
independently of other interface elements.
Design-Time Experiencel
Easier Access to Objects Each View now displays a triangular
selector in the top-left corner. So, you can access a View directly
by clicking it, instead of locating the appropriate label within
the Structure Navigator. The Structure Navigator now highlights the
selected View. If you select a Level by clicking the appropriate
level tab, or if you select the entire grid control, the
corresponding label within the Structure Navigator will be
highlighted as well. Of course, highlighting also takes place when
you use the Object Inspector or the Component Editor to select an
object. In addition, the Structure Navigator now allows you to
select multiple objects by clicking View or Level labels while
holding the SHIFT key. If you select a Level or View using the
Object Inspector or the grid's Structure Navigator, the
corresponding View will automatically become visible within the
grid control. With v6, you can access summary item properties by
clicking the corresponding footer cells and summary values in group
rows.
l
l
Improved Context Menus. For your convenience, grid control, View
and level context menus are extended with the most frequently used
actions. Column and Band Quick Customization. Column and Band Quick
Customization dropdowns are now available not only to your
end-users, but to you as well. These simple and effective column
and band arrangement mechanisms help you get your job done quickly,
without aggravation.

Now, if the VisibleForCustomization property of a grid item (column
or card row), band, or chart item is set to False, this item or
band cannot be removed by end-users from a View via the drag and
drop, Quick Columns/Bands Customization dropdown, or context menu.
Build 38 The parameter list has been changed in the
TcxCustomGridTableController.FindNextItem,
TcxCustomGridTableController.FocusNextItem and
TcxCustomGridTableController.FocusNextCell methods and in the
corresponding overrides of the TcxCustomGridTableControllers
descendants. Build 36 Previously, the Views built-in data navigator
only posted records being inserted or appended when these records
were modified. This limitation has now been removed. Build 20 All

Grid3 and Grid4 Equivalents (alphabetically)See Also
This topic provides a conversion guide between
ExpressQuantumGrid3 and ExpressQuantumGrid4 members. All members
are grouped into four categories: Options, Properties, Methods and
Events. Use the links under each category to access the equivalents
to ExpressQuantumGrid3 members (provided in alphabetical order).
Options All option names have the edgo prefix so the alphabetical
order refers to option names excluding this prefix. A B CDE F HIK
LM NP RS TUV Properties A B CDE F GHIK LM NOP RS TUV W Methods
ABCDEFGHILMPRS Events All event names have the On prefix so the
alphabetical order refers to event names excluding this prefix.
ABCDEFGHIRSV Grid control The main difference between versions 3
and 4 of the ExpressQuantumGrid is that the latter is capable of
displaying data within multiple Views. ExpressQuantumGrid4 provides
different Views (Table, Banded Table and Card Views) for displaying
data while ExpressQuantumGrid3 provides just one basic Table View
(which can be displayed with or without bands). Most of the
TdxDBGrid functionality is now implemented by View objects. Views
present data from data fields by means of "items". An Item
represents a column in Table Views and a row in Card Views. Refer
to the Views and Items sections for more details. A data controller
represented by the Views DataController property implements
data-aware operations such as loading data, filtering, grouping and
calculating summaries. Customizing colors and fonts has been
delegated to Style objects and so is implemented now by assigning
styles to grid elements. These changes mean that the multitude of
top level properties in the grid have been replaced by a small
collection of objects. While these changes provide for a more
efficient and extensible product, we recognize that users of
ExpressQuantumGrid3 will have initial difficulty in finding the
properties required while converting event handlers for
ExpressQuantumGrid4 and hence the reason for this topic. Note: the
two technologies are very different so there isnt always a simple
replacement available. While we have tried to cover as many options
as possible, the following lists can never be totally complete (you
may be using our product in ways we havent considered!). If you
still have difficulty in replacing your ExpressQuantumGrid3 code
because your needs are not covered here, please write to
[email protected] and we will help you. Bands Unlike the
previous version of the grid control, ExpressQuantumGrid4 does not
contain bands by default. Instead, it provides Banded Table Views
(TcxGridBandedTableView and TcxGridDBBandedTableView). A Banded
Table View contains the Bands property providing a collection of
TcxGridBand objects. Columns Every View provided by
ExpressQuantumGrid4 contains a collection of View-specific items
(columns in a (Banded) Table View and rows in a Card View)
displaying data from particular fields. Unlike the previous version
of the grid control, ExpressQuantumGrid4 does not provide different
column types. Instead, you should use the items properties
(RepositoryItem or PropertiesClass) to specify the editor type used
to edit the items data. You can refer to the Data Editing Using
Inplace Editors section for more information. ExpressQuamtumGrid4
provides different repository items corresponding to the
ExpressQuantumGrid3 columns. These repository items can be used to
specify the in-place editor type: ExpressQuantumGrid3 members

Nodes/records Records provided by an ExpressQuantumGrid4 View
can be accessed via the ViewData property (e.g.
TcxGridTableView.ViewData). TcxCustomGridRecord is the base class
for items available via the ViewData object and these items consist
of group rows, master and data rows, the new item row and cards.
ViewData contains only those records which are currently visible or
potentially visible by scrolling. It does not contain records
hidden under collapsed group rows. Summary items ExpressQuantumGrid
provides summary groups (as in the previous version), thus enabling
you to calculate summaries when grouping by particular columns.
Default summary groups are now available via the Views
DataController.Summary.DefaultGroupSummaryItems property. Filter
Filtering data in ExpressQuantumGrid4 is implemented by the
TcxDataFilterCriteria class. It allows you to create complex filter
conditions, enable/disable filter criteria and customize the filter
drop-down list. Options Option edgoAnsiSort

ValueTypeClass property is set, this value determines the default
editor assigned to the item. An example of registering a default
editor follows:
GetDefaultEditDataRepositoryItems.RegisterItem(TcxBooleanValueType,
cxEditRegisteredItemsStandardVersion,
GetDefaultEditRepository.CreateItem(TcxEditRepositoryCheckBoxItem));
Here, a check box is registered as the editor for items with the
value type of TcxBooleanValueType. To redefine the default editor
for this value type, call the RegisterItem procedure passing it the
required repository item instead of TcxEditRepositoryCheckBoxItem.
The second parameter of the procedure specifies the priority of the
registered editor. To redefine the existing editor, you must set
the parameter to a value greater than the
cxEditRegisteredItemsStandardVersion. If an item is assigned to a
value type not registered by RegisterItem, its editor is determined
by the RegisterDefaultItem method:
GetDefaultEditDataRepositoryItems.RegisterDefaultItem(
cxEditRegisteredItemsStandardVersion,
GetDefaultEditRepository.CreateItem(TcxEditRepositoryTextItem)); If
you need to use a different editor, call RegisterDefaultItem
passing it a another repository item instead of
TcxEditRepositoryTextItem. Like the RegisterItem method, set the
first parameter to a value greater than the
cxEditRegisteredItemsStandardVersion constant.
GetDefaultFieldColumnClass TCustomdxDBTreeListControl In data-aware
Views, items (columns in a Table View and cards in a Card View) are
assigned default editors based on the field type. An example of
registering a default editor follows:
GetDefaultEditDBRepositoryItems.RegisterItem(ftCurrency,
cxEditRegisteredItemsStandardVersion,
GetDefaultEditRepository.CreateItem(TcxEditRepositoryCurrencyItem));
Here, a currency editor represented by the
TcxEditRepositoryCurrencyItem class is registered as an editor for
currency fields. The first parameter specifies a value of the
TFieldType enumerator. The second parameter specifies the priority
of the registered editor. To redefine the existing editor, you must
set the parameter to a value greater than the
cxEditRegisteredItemsStandardVersion. If an item is assigned to a
field not registered by the RegisterItem method, its editor is
determined by the RegisterDefaultItem method:
GetDefaultEditDBRepositoryItems.RegisterDefaultItem(
cxEditRegisteredItemsStandardVersion,
GetDefaultEditRepository.CreateItem(TcxEditRepositoryMaskItem));
If you need to use a different editor, call RegisterDefaultItem
passing it a another repository item instead of
TcxEditRepositoryMaskItem. Like the RegisterItem method, set the
first parameter to a value greater than the
cxEditRegisteredItemsStandardVersion constant. GetDefaultGroup
TdxDBGridSummaryGroups Default groups are provided by the Views
DataController.Summary.DefaultGroupSummaryItems property. The
TcxCustomGridRecord.DisplayTexts property provides the text
representation of a value stored in a particular record field. Use
the code as follows
(cxGrid1TableView1.ViewInfo.RecordsViewInfo[AIndex] as
TcxGridDataRowViewInfo).GetCellViewInfoByItem(AItem).ContentBounds;
AIndex specifies the record index defined by the
TcxCustomGridRecord.Index property. AItem refers to the item
(column in a (Banded) Table View and row in a Card View).

Grid control The main difference between versions 3 and 4 of the
ExpressQuantumGrid is that the latter is capable of displaying data
within multiple Views. ExpressQuantumGrid4 provides different Views
(Table, Banded Table and Card Views) for displaying data while
ExpressQuantumGrid3 provides just one basic Table View (which can
be displayed with or without bands). Most of the TdxDBGrid
functionality is now implemented by View objects. Views present
data from data fields by means of "items". An Item represents a
column in Table Views and a row in Card Views. Refer to the Views
and Items sections for more details. A data controller represented
by the Views DataController property implements data-aware
operations such as loading data, filtering, grouping and
calculating summaries.
