PHUTHADITJHABA. – The woesof the troubled Qwaqwa communi-ty radio station, Qwaqwa Radio,continue.The station has hit the headlines

again, for all the wrong reasons.In the latest scandal to rock the

station, veteran presenter CharlesLekesi was allegedly heard snoringon live radio after falling asleepwhile presenting a show from 06:00on Saturday, 4 April.Lekesi was also allegedly drunk

when he showed up to present theHlwaya Tsebe show, which dealswith family values.Several listeners took to various

social networks to voice theirdispleasure at this turn of events.According to angry listeners, the

show started an hour late, withthe first sign of trouble being theout-dated recording of a preacherplayed to welcome the listeners.One of the listeners, who asked

that they not be named out of fearof victimisation, told ExpressEastern Free State that he wasawake at the time when thepresenter started the show.“He played a song after the

preaching. After the song theradio was quiet. I thought theelectricity had gone off.“I was shocked when I heard

him snoring. We were forced tolisten to that for about 35 minutes,until Nontokozo Tshabalala cameon at 07:00 to read the news.”Dibuseng Peleha was called in to

save the radio from more shame.Peleha then took over the show,

while fuming listeners took tosocial media where they voiceddifferent views about the incident.Some even went to the extent of

demanding an Annual GeneralMeeting (AGM) be held, as theyclaimed that the station had lostits purpose and value.According to some comments,

the station has not had an AGMsince the controversial electiveAGM that was held in March 2013.That AGM was preceded by

financial maladministrationallegations and was followed bythe dismissal of over ten present-ers and newsreaders.

When contacted for comment adefiant Lekesi dismissed theallegations, saying he was not atwork on that day.“It is not true that I slept during

the show. I was not even at workthat day. I don’t even know whowas doing the show that day,”Lekesi said.He said maybe people had made

those comments based on theknowledge that he was supposedto have been on air at that time.He also denied that he was

currently suspended.Even though Lekesi denied that

he had been suspended, an insiderconfirmed to Express EFS that itwas announced in a meeting thathe would be suspended untilfurther notice.

posted a status that reads: “Hai,this Qwaqwa Radio should beclosed #useless.“Can’t you hear that mzala is

snoring on air? He is sleeping.Yesterday we went there to submitsome things and the radio wasnowhere to be found,” he said in

response to another comment.Mamojuda Judasjudee Motaung

posted: “When is the AGM coming,because it’s April? I want to voicesome of the things (concerns).’) Late last year a mysterious fireapparently broke out at the stationand destroyed the building,consuming half of the MandelaPark Shopping Centre.McDonald Mokoena (32) was

arrested and charged with arsonfor burning down half of theshopping centre in which theradio station is situated.He was declared a state patient

and referred to the Free StatePsychiatric Complex in Bloemfon-tein.He was diagnosed with a mental

KIMBERLEY. – Hundreds ofmourners from different spor-ting codes gathered at Verge-noeg in Kimberley to pay lasttribute to the late Free StateStars’ striker, Richard Henyeka-ne, who had died in a caraccident a week ago.

The “Kimberley Express”, ashe was nicknamed, was laid torest in the ABC Cemetery inGaleshewe on Saturday (11/04).

The former Golden Arrowsand Mamelodi Sundowns strikerpassed away in the early hoursof Tuesday (07/04) after the carhe was driving had collidedhead-on with an oncoming truckon the N5, just outside Kestellen route to Bethlehem fromQwaqwa.

The four other occupants ofthe car were identified as PaulMofokeng (26), NthabisengMotsoetsoe (20), Ayanda Matete(20) and Mpho Moloi (18).

Prior to the funeral, anemotional memorial service washeld in the Bethlehem TownHall on Thursday (09/04).

At the service, Stars’ captain,Paulos Masehe, said althoughHenyekane was now in God’shands, he would always remainin their hearts.

“After the Amazulu game(over the weekend in Durban),he was the one who was tellingme that we should fight. Godtook him at a time when weneeded his experience to scoregoals and take us out of therelegation zone. Let’s dedicateall the remaining games to

Henyekane. We should fight forhim,” said the skipper who wasin tears.

Andrew Kanyaza, Henyekanefamily spokesperson, said thefamily had asked the team tofight and win their remaininggames.

“We will rejoice and forget thepain if you fight out of therelegation zone. Mike (Mokoenateam chairperson and owner),you have done a good job bybringing our son to your team,”he said.

Rantsi Mokoena, the managingdirector of the team, said hewould like to send his condolen-ces to the other families. “Youwill never understand the painwe are going through. But timeheals all wounds,” he said.

Mokoena said there was noway that any of the people whohad been in the car could have

survived.“That was one of the most

horrific accidents. We lost LeslyManyathela, Thomas Madigage,Gift Leremi and others in thesame way.

“All those players died in anaccident in the early hours ofthe morning,” he said.

He urged the players to stopdriving at night.

Kinnah Phiri, the teammentor, said it was verydifficult to find words to expresshis sorrow.

“We lost a good player. Hewas a good player and veryobedient at training. He was aplayer I believed in and reliedon,” he said.

Phiri said he had not sleptsince Henyekane’s death.

“He left us when everyone inthe team needed him,” Phirilamented.

Alleged electricity‘theft’ a concernV Susan Maré

THE EvangelisticAssociation ofBethlehem andBohlokong did not“steal” electricityfrom the DihlabengMunicipality topresent its EasterCrusade in a tentchurch next to thenew communityhall in Bohlokong.Several “anointedspeakers” were in-volved in presen-ting the theme ofthe crusade, Tur-ning the situationaround: Salvation,healing, prophecy,breakthrough anddeliverance.

The allegations of“stealing electrici-ty” were made byseveral residentsand rate payers inBethlehem andBohlokong and en-ded up on ExpressEastern Free State’stable for investiga-tion.

According to oneof the allegations,the speaker coun-cillor of Dihlabeng,Bishop David Len-goabala, who wasone of the “anointed speakers”, alle-gedly told a group of members of theDA caucus who saw the electricitycable connection from the electrici-ty box to the tent church, “The Ty-rannus Apostolic Church did notpay for electricity. If themunicipali-ty could do it for Tyrannus, they canalso do it for me . . .”Express Eastern Free Statewent to

the venue and took photos of the ca-ble connection from the electricitybox to the tent church. ThereafterExpress Eastern Free State asked themunicipality to comment on the al-legations.

“We have noted the allegationswith a heavy heart,” Lengoabalasaid.

“The church organisation wasgranted the right to utilise the newhall in Bohlokong, after followingthe right procedure and having paidthe required tariff.

“After concluding that the capaci-ty of the venue would not be able toaccommodate the expected multitu-des, they opted to erect a tent on thesports field close by.

“The tariff amount is inclusive ofelectricity, water, et cetera, and the-refore organisations, institutions orindividuals are not expected to payfor them separately.

“This is normal council procedu-rewhich is applied across the board.

“The church organisation viewsthe allegations of ‘theft of electrici-ty’ in a very serious light, and reser-ves the right to legal recourse, andhereby cautions any media institu-tion or individual from spreadingthese false and baseless allegati-ons.”) The DA has indicated that theywould pursue this matter and ensu-re that the church at which the spea-ker of Dihlabeng is involved doesnot get preferential treatment.

Ben Venter, the DA chief whip inDihlabeng, stated: “We are concer-ned that some churches in Dihla-bengwhohavepolitical connectionsmight be given services free of char-ge, while other churches and rate-payers have to pay for this.

“The question remains why Len-goabala would make the statementto the DA councillors about the Ty-rannusChurch if hewas so sure thathis church had paid. His commentsraise further questions about if andwhen the payment was made – befo-re the electricity was connected orafter the complaint?”) Express Eastern Free State hadasked the municipality for copies ofthe contract, as well as a receipt ofthe amount paid by the EvangelisticAssociation on Tuesday (07/04).At the time of going to the print, nodocuments had been received.

THE Vrede Dairy Project is here tostay, Mosebenzi Zwane, Free StateEconomic Development MEC, said.

Zwane recently told members ofthe Free State Legislature theproject would make R20 millionprofit in the next three years.

Last year the project, which islinked to the Gupta family and has

allegedly cost tax payers R570 mil-lion, was shifted to the Free StateDevelopment Corporation (FDC).

Zwane, a former AgricultureMEC, told the newspaper theproject was currently yieldingR750 000 per month.

Zwane said the project had about70 cattle which were being milkedevery ten minutes.

“The project has 20 permanent

employees at the moment,” Zwaneexplained.

He said the project aimed to hire600 permanent employees in thenext three years.

Zwane also reiterated thatgrabbing land and illegallyoccupying it from farm ownerswould not be sustainable in thelong run.

“In 1913 the people who stole

land from us had a plan and weshould not be driven by angerwhen we deal with this issue.

“We need the land to feed ourpeople, not to score politicalpoints,” said Zwane.

His comments came after theEFF had called on the governmentto expedite the process of landrestitution.

Meanwhile DA leader in the

legislature, Roy Jankielsohn, saidZimbabwe was looming in SouthAfrica.

“Zimbabwe looms on SouthAfrica’s doorstep as a symbol ofhow both the politicisation of,and failure to manage, land issuesnegatively affect food security,employment, poverty andultimately political stability,”Jankielsohn said.

PHUTHADITJHABA. – PrinceNyamate (23), a BCom GeneralManagement graduate, is adamantthat he would be in a position tosecure any job in line with hisqualification after a six-monthtraining programme offered by theTshepong Bridging Programme.

The 2015 Tshepong BridgingProgramme is an innovativeinitiative funded by the Accountingand Finance Services Seta (Fasset)and enables graduates with anNQF6 Commerce qualificationaccess to employment.

A total of 25 learners will betrained on the SAQA-registeredGeneric Management qualification,Pastel, as well as Work Readinessmodules.

Nyamate, who hails from SlovoPark in Qwaqwa, completed hisdegree in 2013 at the University ofthe Free State’s (UFS) QwaqwaCampus. He said since then he hadbeen applying for jobs, but failedmost of the interviews that he hadgone to.

“I am happy with the TshepongProgramme. We are failing inter-views because we do not have thepractical experience and Tshepongis going to help us with this. I amsure after six months I will be in aposition to get any job that comesmy way,” Nyamate said.

Nyamate spoke to ExpressEastern Free State during theTshepong Bridging Programmeopening ceremony at the UFS’sQwaqwa Campus last weekWednesday (08/04).

Cecilia Hattingh, the projectco-ordinator, said they were goingto give training to the 25 studentswho had degrees in FinancialManagament.

“We are going to assist thestudents by giving them work-read-iness skills. This includes skillslike project management, telephoneskills, leadership and communica-tion. These are things that youdon’t have when you leave univer-sity. We just want them to be onestep ahead of anybody else with aBCom qualification,” Hattingh said.

She said they were hoping togive the students confidence at theend of the programme.

“We will show them how to drawup a curriculum vitae, to preparefor interviews and how to approacha company,” she said.

Prof. Prakash Naidoo, theprincipal at the UFS’s QwaqwaCampus, said he was excited about

the programme. He added it wouldassist the students in getting theskills that they had not acquired atuniversity.

“We know that we can only getfinance skills from the workenvironment. So, Tshepong hascome on board and offered thoseskills to the students free ofcharge,” Naidoo said.

He said the most exciting thingwas that after the programme mostof the students would be placed injobs.

“That is a plus for them. Youknow that jobs are difficult to find.With the skills they will bereceiving, I am positive that theywill be appointed by some compa-nies,” Naidoo concluded.

THE Free State Department of Educationappeals to learners from gr. 8 to gr. 11 andteachers to participate in the iNkosi AlbertLuthuli Oral History competition. Thecompetition aims to promote the FreedomCharter ideals which the late Luthulifought for.

Inaugurated in 2005, the competition hasbeen named after Luthuli, former presidentof the ANC, Nobel Prize laureate andeducationist.

The competition will afford the partici-pants a chance to review the progressSouth Africa has made as a nation inbuilding a better and more united nationas well as strengthening democracy.

This year learners are given topicscentred on the commemoration of theFreedom Charter which marks 60 yearssince its drafting and adoption by anti-apartheid activists.

The participants are encouraged toresearch the history of Albert Luthuli andheroines of the past within their localityand not concentrate on those whose effortsand contributions are already known in thepublic.

of the league for the better partof the season, have dropped tothe second spot after their

disappointing 2-1 loss againstSibanye Golden Stars on theirhome turf at the BohlokongStadium near Bethlehem.Last season, Eagles flew high

with no-one expecting them to fall.They did, however, and lostcrucial games. As a result, they

remaining their head coach, JonnyMafereka, still believes they canwin all their remaining games andstay in the National First Division(NFD). Surprisingly, their formerhead coach Morena Ramorebudi,

who is now with African Warriors,also said they would survive.“They won’t be relegated. They

just have to win all the remaininggames. They are a strong teamwith quality players,” he said.He said this after their 4-2

victory against the strugglingMaluti at the Charles MopeliStadium in Qwaqwa on Saturday(11/04).Ramorebudi said they had beaten

them because they had known

what to expect.“Other teams will struggle to
