President’s 2021 Message
Dear IAHC Conference Attendees, In my last year’s President’s Message, I had proposed that the coming year would be a year of increased dissemination of concepts in caring from our caring science community. Indeed, since the last conference, our Board of Directors, committees, and caring science community at large have all contributed to making this hopeful proposal a reality. Thank you to all who helped with dissemination using educational opportunities like the journal club, caring conversations, and conversation with a theorist. We also awarded several scholarships related to caring science, increased our IAHC LinkedIn member to almost 400, and grew our IAHC membership by 20% since the 2020 virtual conference.
All the knowledge we have gained within this growth has helped us understand how to offer more opportunities within our 42nd annual conference which is our second virtual. For this conference, we have expanded the number of presentations, added poster presentations, and increased the number of presenters from around the globe. The hidden blessing within the challenges of facing a global pandemic together was moving to a much more virtual world that facilitated more networking, learning, and discussion at a global level. It is a blessing that we see more clearly as our collaborations have deepened over time within our virtual world. Presentations from around the globe within this conference nicely support our conference theme, Exploring Inclusive and Diverse Caring in Healthcare and Beyond. Our three keynote presentations are provided by:1) Dr. Connie Hunt, an American Indian from the Puyallup tribe located around the Puget Sound region in Washington State will be reviewing challenges she’s observed for American Indians accessing healthcare. 2) Dr. Tara Nichols presenting the history of African Americans within the profession of nursing. 3) Dr. Marie Therese Jamison presenting an educational program based upon Relationship Based Care and that touts over 25% of their nursing students are male. This year’s conference agenda focuses on an international conversation of caring, exploring diverse voices in caring. Within the next few pages of this brochure, we include the titles and time for each presentation as well as new opportunities for you within IAHC. A special and big “thank you” goes out to the education committee led by Dr. Shirley Gordon, Past President of IAHC. Within this acknowledgement is the recognition of Dr. Gordon’s hard work and collaboration with all, including our Business Association Manager, Peter Metsker. We look forward to hearing from you after you’ve attended the conference! Your engagement and reflections are essential to help us refine the processes of caring we strive for within IAHC. John Nelson, PhD, MS, RN
IAHC President CEO, Healthcare Environment

Although many individuals have provided contributions for the sustainability of IAHC, Dr. Shirley Gordon (Past President and current Educational Chair) has unwaveringly stepped up as a champion and leader for our many educational opportunities. This exceptional commitment ensures a platform for engaging in discourse, mentoring novice academics and clinicians, and most importantly enabling us to connect during this pandemic which are pillars for advancing Caring knowledge and nurturing persons of care.
Thank you on behalf of the Board of Directors
