Plagiarism Contract

Plagiarism is a very serious offense. Doing so in a professional setting could result in your termination and make finding another job in your chosen field extremely difficult if not impossible.

I have laid out my response to this offense below. You AND your parents must sign off that you have read and understand this policy in case it must be enacted at any point. The harshness of this policy is designed to emulate the damage one does to their reputation moving forward.

All assignments 10-30% off following any proven offense. This is non-negotiable.

• 1st instance: assignment is failed• 2nd: assignment is failed + yellowsheet and ethics paper

IF, for any reason, you originally got away with a plagiarism offense and get caught later, the current assignment is under late policy until ethics paper is written, signed by parents, administration and ALL teachers. All subsequent assignments will be 10-30% off. You must perform Four (4) volunteer days with green team, service learning or human rights club.

Failure to do any part of this will result in 30% off all assignment ( non negotiable) + yellow slip.

Ethics Paper:You must explain what Ethics are, what your ethics are, why you felt it was okay to violate your ethics and what potential consequences outside of the class setting could be for you. You must find and relate a story of someone who was caught plagiarizing and the consequences they faced. You must present this paper to your parents, the school Administration, and all your other teachers. A copy of your class schedule and signatures from your parents, school Administration and teachers must accompany this paper.

The paper is to be three (3) to four (4) pages. Arial or Times New Roman. Double spaced. MLA format. Cite your sources.

Violating this formatting in an attempt to fill space will result in a yellow slip.

Please sign that you and your parents have read this policy:

Personal Mission Statement

Example of how this should look:

From Ken Klieman:Priorities: Downtime, collaboration, community building, exerciseJoy: Not arguing over small stuff, friends, not wasting time - being productive, breathing, time, patienceDirection: a person who cares about the “other”, thinking beyond himself, being a producer not a consumer, creativeGive: live values of inclusion

Personal Mission Statement: I, Ken Klieman, will exemplify thinking beyond myself through teaching by pursuing inclusion, helping others elevate their lives and being a producer not a consumer. I will do this by breathing, modeling the patience I want out of others, being inclusive of “the other”, valuing down-time and not arguing over small stuff.

From Galen Sterling-SmithPriorities: Lifting, family, respect, knowledge of GodJoy: Comics, cartoons, MMA, knowledge of GodDirection: Knowledge/Empathy of others, knowing/sharing God’s love, being creativeGive: Knowledge of self/self-confidence

Personal Mission Statement: I, Galen Sterling-Smith, will exemplify the most important commandment of “Love your neighbor,” by showing respect to all people regardless of any personal bias, by doing my best in all things, being patient and growing in wisdom. I will do this through continued knowledge of God, continuing to understand and improve myself mentally, spiritually and physically and sharing any newfound knowledge or skill with any who is willing to listen.

How To Write It :

There are four questions to consider. Each question has sub-questions to help you brainstorm a response. Answer/Address as many sub-questions as you can.

I. Please list your priorities in your life:• What personal qualities are important to you (being kind, be respectable, integrity, etc)?• What is something you want to accomplish (write a novel, create a video game, start a company, surf big waves)?• What do you do for fun (video games, sports, hang with friends, read, etc)?• How do you want to collaborate with others (What kind of team-player do you want to be, if a team-player at all? How do you want to contribute to the team’s growth)?

II. Please list what gives you joy in your life:• What makes you truly happy (going on vacation, hanging with friends, trying new food, etc)?• Who is important to you (not WHAT, WHO)?• What do you do to relax/chillout (How do you settle yourself? How do you refresh)?

III. Please list what direction you want to go in your life:• What type of person do you want to be? • What do you want others to say about you? • What would you like your 2nd sentence to be?

(Context: - ex: Two people talking, as you walk up and say “hi”. After you walk away, one person says to the other, “Who was that guy?”“Galen”“Galen who?”“You know, Galen, the guy helps kids at Bowditch Middle School.”

(This is the second sentence.)

IV. Please list WHY and WHAT you want to GIVE to others in your life:• How do you want to elevate and challenge yourself (How do you want to change and grow)?• How do you want to pursue excellence (How do you plan to become a better you)?

SummarySummarize EACH categories answers• Priorities (who and what is important to you?):• Joys (what makes you truly happy?):• Direction (who do you want to be? What do you want people to say about you?):• Give (what qualities do you want to exemplify? What qualities do you want as a part of your life?)
