TERRACOTTA CLADDING THE ARCHITECT'S CHOICE.
Durable and timeless, the panels are a dream for Architects – especially given our bespoke façades are available in every imaginable colour, shape and surface.
Its earthy textures and warm tone have been reappearing in various structures and spaces over the past few years, and we love it! Neutral colors like Sandstone and Tuscan Red evoke a classical charm infused with a sense of earthy energy that enhances the vibe of the spaces it features. Argeton is the original and oldest manufacturer of terracotta rainscreen systems and enjoys a dominating presence on the cladding world stage. The Argeton system is fully engineered and tested to meet the building specifications for new construction and rectification projects, both in Australia and around the world.
The durability is just as persuasive as the contemporary aesthetic: Argeton is impervious to weather, impact-proof and shatterproof and requires virtually no maintenance.
A long-time favorite and used for centuries, terracotta is recognised for its rustic and enduring appeal. This timeless beauty is now re-emerging as a trend in the design construction industry.
Today the name Argeton stands for quality, aesthetics and creativity. The success story is based on systematic and future- oriented product development, service-focused sales and quality assurance of a large group.
Rich, warm, and earth tone colours are produced by extreme heat in the kilns with no effect of the sun. By blending different types of clay materials and precisely controlling the firing temperature in the kiln, it is possible to produce terracotta cladding with a rich variety of colours. A unique feature of Terracotta is the result of the firing process during manufacturing which essentially locks the colour of the panel into the terracotta for the life of the product.
Available in different textures and profiles, this allows designers to experiment with the shadow effects on the structure. Terracotta cladding can be processed with a wide variety of surface texture treatment – includes natural surface, sandblasted surface, wirestruck surface, corrugated surface, grooved surface, linear surface, wood grain surface.

MULTIFARIOUS DESIGN ELEMENTS OF TERRACOTTA CLADDING
Terracotta cladding is no longer confined to a flat shape, and can be installed both horizontally or vertically. According to different façade structures, Argeton can offer different cross-sections and flexible geometric terracotta cladding products.
The firing of Terracotta during the manufacturing process vitrifies the colour into the surface of the panel. This process results in Terracotta being resistant to ultraviolet radiation and corrosion – it does not fade in sunlight or from years of acidic rain. Weather-resistant and low absorption properties.
Reduces the level of sound absorption. Outstanding thermal installation which helps to mitigate the heat-island upshot of larger buildings, and lower overall energy consumption. Terracotta is best at storing heat energy during the day and releasing it gradually at night.
Lower installation costs – fast and easy to install. The terracotta rainscreen cladding system does not use grout or sealants, therefore, reducing the need to maintain the joints. Life expectancy far exceeds that of other cladding materials. The surface of terracotta cladding is not likely to be dusty. It can be easily power washed every 2-3 years (or over even a longer period) and afterwards, it looks as if it were the original. Damaged tiles can be replaced individually without having to disturb adjacent tiles.
Rated Class A Fireproof – During the manufacturing process, Terracotta panels are fired at over 1000 degrees Celsius for days on end. This seals the Terracotta and makes it almost fireproof. For this reason, the terracotta construction materials can withstand large, intense fires for longer than almost any other building material. Environmentally friendly building material which can be easily recycled, repurposed, or reduced to debris. Old Terracotta tiles can be smashed and put back into the ground or reused to make new Terracotta panels. Terracotta cladding is made 100% of clay, which is environmentally friendly and harmless to humans and the environment.

PROJECT ROLES
The 18,000 square-metre facility was clad in Stryüm Shadow powder-coated in Silver Riche Matt and Sapphire Anodised colours.
With an ambient temperature of 20 degrees and around 50 per cent humidity being required for maintaining paper records, Argeton, terracotta tile was chosen for the interior lining as it provides high durability and strength which makes it a popular choice for use on public buildings.

Thoughtful façade design plays a crucial role in producing high performing buildings; helping to not only present an aesthetically pleasing project, but to also manage condensation, prevent water penetration, control thermal movements, and even resist the spread of fire on the exterior of buildings.
In today’s market, architects and designers are given extensive design flexibility with a variety of cladding materials available, including aluminium, steel, timber alternatives, fibre cement, terracotta and zinc. However, in a world where energy, environmental, and financial challenges cannot be ignored, the traditional terracotta makes perfect sense for construction purposes. The demands of the past two years have forced us to find a sense of calmness and comfort in our home environment, which could partially explain why we are seeing a significant increase in the use of natural and earthy construction materials.
“By using more untreated and natural materials, we strive to build links that connect us physically and emotionally, rather than just digitally to our world.”
What could be more natural than terracotta? It is baked earth after all. The warm and rich ambiance of terracotta will not only provide your project with a sense of conviviality but will also act as a protective shield and provide the building with an unprecedented level of stability and energy efficiency.
Modern building products are tapping into a renewed interest in energy-saving, durable, low- maintenance materials with recyclable components and an organic appearance. Cladding systems such as Fairview’s Argeton, a terracotta ventilated façade system made from natural and recycled clay tiles and panels, is an example of what is finding its way to residential and commercial exteriors.
When combined with elements like brick, stone, glass, or wood, and contrasted with hard textures like concrete and steel, Argeton adds an elegant and timeless look to exterior façades. Enriching new and modern buildings, the Argeton façade also imparts an exclusive contemporary character to refurbished properties.
Baguettes or sunshades are also available in the Argeton range and are a popular choice for solar protection, to act as an effective ventilation screen, to provide security against access, or to simply add an eye-catching decorative element to your design.

Retirement home in Gästgivaren, Sweden The durability is just as persuasive as the contemporary aesthetic
The change is considerable; originally, the building was a dairy. Today, it is an impressive and state-of-the-art residence for seniors clad in Argeton stick tiles. With its striking exterior façade, the building now contributes to enhancing the quality of life for residents, staff and the city.
The unusual design adds an abundance of self-confidence to the surrounding area. Although virtually every property line is touched, the building is characterised by their spaciousness and the interior is characterised by clarity, which enhances the feeling of openness.
DESIGN INTENTION: CHARACTER THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME
In addition to the standard colours, glazes and engobes can be customised to any colour, allowing limitless design possibilities.
Insulation against external noise pollution and improvement of sound protectionby approx. 9dB.
Innovative and cost effective cladding, based on the proven principle of the ventilated cavity, using natural clay tiles suspended in a rainscreen mechanically attached to an aluminium substructure.
Argeton's Barro bar bricks are used as an architectural design element, as sun protection or as a visor for a wide range of applications on façades.
What is Terracotta? A building’s façade can feature an array of materials. The design and performance characteristics of these materials vary significantly, and your choice of cladding should be based on a careful assessment of the project’s climate conditions, as well as the aesthetic design intent. As a building product, terracotta has been in use for thousands of years however of late, terracotta has gained increasing interest by architects and designers looking for a compliant and durable material that adds texture, warmth and character with beautiful, rich and earthy-tone colours. Terracotta cladding is made from clay ground to a fine dust, mixed with water, extruded to shape, then fired at incredibly high temperatures in order to create an architectural cladding material that offers resistance to extreme weather, thermal insulation, a natural texture and is recyclable.
The colour finishes for terracotta generally fall into two categories - glazed and unglazed.
Glazed Glazed terracotta starts with a body colour, normally white or off-white, a glaze is then applied to the surface prior to the firing process, giving you the ability to achieve different opacities and finishes. The glaze can be transparent allowing you to see the body colour underneath or a completely opaque.
The glazing process also provides an opportunity to add gloss giving you the ability to create finishes that range from Matte, all the way to high gloss. During the production process it’s also possible to combine two or three glazes on different layers to create other special effects including a process called digital engobing.
Like digital printing, digital engobing involves applying a digital image on top of an engobed clay panel, in the firing process, the applied image fuses with the engobe and the panel to form an inseparable unit.
Unglazed Various colours can be created by mixing different types of clay. Natural colours normally include white, sand, yellow, taupe as well as a range of red hues. In order to increase the range of colours on offer, pigments or oxides are added to the clay to give you an almost endless range of options to choose from.
Careful development work is involved in creating new colours as in most cases the final colour is a function of the clay, pigment, oxides and the heat applied during the firing process. The tile colour going into the firing process can be very different to the colour that emerges from the firing process.
This process of creating the colour and vitrification of the colour into the clay creates stable and ever-lasting colours that will easily endure over 50 or more years.
