I. Introduction KohRongSamleom is an island that is in the south-west of Cambodia it is

in the PrahSihanuk province and it is 22400 meters from 52 ports. This island

has 9461 hectares of land and water. On the island there are 98 families, there

is a primary classes which has four classes. The people who live on the island

earn a lot of money by working in the Bungalow.

Map of KohRongSamleom

1.1. The travel to KohRongSamleom

The way to KRS Island is by boat, there are fourteen miles (One mile is

22400 meters). Picture of the way and boat

1.2. The time of travel and cost of the ticket

The time of travel by boat was two and half hours for 14 miles, the boat

left 52 ports at 2 O’clock pm and from KohRongSamleom island at half-past 7

am. The price of the ticket for foreigners is the same as Khmer guests is $ 20,

also. Picture of the way and ticket

1.3. Objectiveof internship

® Discovery about:

Flora and Fauna

KohRongSamleom situation

Important of KRS island beaches

Hiking and Diving

Selects the survey areas (Fishery)

II. Other activities on the KohRongSamleom 2.1. Enjoying beach clean ups

My team has 8 members and we cleaned the beaches on the weekend

(On Sunday and Saturday). After these activities we saw the people a lot of

interested in surprise. The beach cleanup is enjoyable society work and good

for our country.

Confirm:We practice like this every holiday or day off on Saturday and

on Sunday start from 8:00 o’clock am to 11:00 o’clock am.

Page 5: Expedition Samloem 2013: Khmer Report

Picture of members and beaches

a) Catching the butterflies ( insects)

After the cleanup we in the afternoon 1:00 o’clock to 4:00 o’clock pm on

how to catch insects that live on the beach areas and we a lot of insects live

on the plants. They liked the flower such as the butterflies, bees etc.

Picture of catching the butterflies

b) The discovery of the flowers and insects

The flower is a part of the plant, it grows out from the plant by the

nutrients completed and contact with the insects such as butterflies, bees etc.

Cause, we (my team) discover the flowers and insects like this.

Page 6: Expedition Samloem 2013: Khmer Report

Because we know about:

The flower contact with the insects is a contact that is important in

nature. The insect absorbs the water from the flower layers, the

wind and insects help to pollinate the flowers.

Advantage of the flower is the spicy in the nature and also the cost

on the market. Some of the flowers that grow in nature can be

taken to use as medicine to keep healthy.

The insects live in tropical areas; especially the insects live on the

island.

Offer to know about type color difference between the insects

living in the tropical area and the cool area.

Confirm: The plants don’t have flowers but its leaves have colors and

better the plants have the flower.

Picture of the plants

c) Discovery of the amphibians that live on KRS Island

Some amphibians live on the island or by the water side; they are black

and have strange skin.

Page 7: Expedition Samloem 2013: Khmer Report

d) Recycle of the insects, plants and amphibians

The amphibians shouldn’t live of warm local area, only. They need to

always offer to feed; there are insects and small fishes etc.

After the note time they died reaction by batteries change it to fertilize

and mixes with the earth and water. The plants grow, breed it depends on the

water and Oxygen only. They need the nutrients to complete their growth,

certainly for fertilize, compost, advantage batteries etc, also to help plant

growth and breed.

2.2. Asking and Requesting information from the fishing community on

theKRS island

All asking and requesting, some information from manager of the

RongSamleom village (His name is Leom Ran, he’s 46 years old and his job is

manager in the village). He answered questions on the

KohRongSamleomIsland, there is one village only, the village’s name is

RongSamleom and there are 98 families.

A lot of the people at the bungalow of Projects Abroad (restaurant of abroad).

After work they fishing and some are shopkeepers who made a fishing

community since 2011. And it is such as the family look like. Because they

worked at the Bungalow and reduce the fishing because it is conserved by

MCC (Marine Conservation Cambodia) combine the intelligence fishing the big

size could impact the marine source such as: Coral reef, sea grass, colors of the

fish, broken the tours comfortable etc. Because around the KohRongSamleom

plenty the restaurant or Bungalow of Projects abroad and there are some

2.2.1. Fishing on the Koh Rong Samleom island

A lot of the people that live on Koh Rong Samleom leave to fishing in the

evening or early night and bring equipment such as: fishing net, fishing cord,

box of crab, fish etc. There are fishing nets not more than 100 meters, there is

few fishing cord for a person, fishing box (for crab and fish) not more twenty

five for a family.

Picture of the equipment

2.2.2. Advantage of fishing in the evening or early night

Afterwork, they relax (their work at the Bungalow 7 o’clock am to 5

o’clock pm). They can fish in the evening, early night for supporting the meal

in their family. Because of these times, they will horrible to tour or be

comfortable KohRongSamleomIsland. If they’re fishing in the day, there are a

lot of young boys and girls that use the equipment shown in the pictures.

III. Discovering the flora and fauna on the KRS Island

3.1. The living and growing of the flora and fauna

Their life and growth depends on the water, also if you look at the floras

and faunas, which live in the sea, shapes, colors, growing, they look very

different like strangely.

3.2. Discovery of the flora and fauna on the KRS Island

The flora and fauna that live on the wetland and in the water, also at the

same time. Some of the flora and fauna could live in deep water. Sometimes of

the flora and fauna could live in both the deep water and the shallow water.

3.3. Discovering the aquatic life in the sea around KRSI

The aquatic life includes the coral reef and it can grow in the shallow

water. Sometimes it can grow in half meters or less. Some coral reef grows in

the deep water, but it is colorful and has strange shapes.

Picture of aquatic life in the sea

IV. Hiking on the KRSI by using a GPS 4.1. Situation on the KRS Island

4.2. The water source of the KRS village consumed everyday

A. The local of the water source

Consumption of the water source of the KRS village on the KRS Island,

it is 700 meters from the RongSamleom village. And that was discovered by

the people living in the RongSamleom village.

B. Out-way preparation system from the water source

The water systems on the KRS Island discovered by the people live in RS

village, but they dissociable pay on the equipment of the pump system and

water-way. It was fortunate of the people in Rong Samleom village that the

Project Abroad and visitors, organizes, also. The water system helped and

supported by organizes enabled equipment for the water system such as:

pump techniques etc. And the locals, the people of the RongSamleom village

cooperated hold to the pool at the water-flow local, there are high of the

water-flow could flow from the high to low locals into the RongSamleom

village all seasons.

V. How to study diving Adventure in diving emphasizes learning by diving. You’ll notice that the

main objectives direct you to “underline or highlight” answers as you read. By

the time you reach the knowledge review, you should be familiar with the

section.

Watch the symbols:

As you read adventure in diving, you’ll notice this symbol. It alerts you

to important safely information. Pay close attention when you see this symbol

and consult your instructor if you do not understand the material. This Project

a ware symbol highlights information or a specific diving technique that

allows you to harmoniously interact with the aquatic environment.

Flying after diving:

Recommendation the medical community offers the following general

recommendations for flying after diving whether you’re using another table or

a dive computer.

5.1. Confined water dives

You’ll find the confined water dives a lot of fun. A few tips will help you

get the most out of your practices:

Think of confined water dives as simulations of open water dives,

use them to develop good open water habits.

If you wear contact tenses, be sure to let your instructor know. If

you can see adequately to read gauges and watch your instructor.

Your instructor will demonstrate skills you need to learn before

you practice them.

If you don’t understand why you’re practicing or doing something,

be sure to ask your instructor.

Remember that throughout the course.

5.2. Signal if you can’t equalize

If you have ear discomfort or other Equalization problems, be sure to

signal your buddy or instructor immediately. Your buddy or your instructor

has no way of knowing that you have a problem unless you signal.

Page 14: Expedition Samloem 2013: Khmer Report

Picture of signal

5.3. Air consumption calculation

How can you tell how long your Cylinder will last at a given depth if

you’re never been that depth before? All you need is your air consumption

rate at a shallow depth, the charts below or a sharp pencil or calculator start

by obtaining a record of your air consumption from your dive log. The more

dives your work with, the more accurate your calculations will be also, dives

made primarily at a single level will be more useful that multi-level dives. For

each dive, record how many bar/psi. You use the actual dive time and the

depth.

Picture of air consumption

Page 15: Expedition Samloem 2013: Khmer Report

® Metric Depth(meters) Conversion Factors Pressure at Depth (bar)

0 1.0 3 1.3 6 1.6 9 1.9

12 2.2 15 2.5 18 2.8 21 3.1 24 3.4 27 3.7 30 4.0 33 4.3 36 4.6 39 4.9

Determine your air consumption rate at the surface in liters

per minute with this formula:

=

Example:

A diver using a 10 liters cylinder uses 100 bar on a dive to 12 meters for

20 minutes. What is the air consumption rate at the surface?

VI. How of the diving with the time If you spend six hours or more at altitude above 300 meters/1000 feet,

but ascend to a higher altitude to dive, you still use the same procedures as

though arriving from sea level. If you find yourself in this situation regularly,

take the PADI altitude diver specially course to learn special acclimated

Page 16: Expedition Samloem 2013: Khmer Report

diverprocedure. These procedures give credit for having less nitrogen than if

arriving at the dive site from sea level.

Whether you are a diver, boat crew, life guard or share staff, you can be

one to help a diver in an oxygen emergency provider today. Contact your local

PADI dive center or resort to start training today.

6.1. Personal Equipment

Before making a deep dive, you need to evaluate your personal

equipment’s suitability for deep diving. You may find that some of it needs

services, and in some cases, replacement. Generally, you need to consider both

equipment condition and appropriateness for using in deep water.

VII. Night Diving Dive at night? Why? If you’re new to diving and have never tried it, the

idea might seem strange, or even intimidating. What can you at night that you

wouldn’t during the day? Think about a nocturnal stroll through a familiar

park. At first it seems a little scary perhaps, but as your eyes adjust to the dark

you relax, recognizing the familiar paths and trees. It’s the same place you’re

seen many timed during the day, yet somehow different. Your flashlight

illuminates a jasmine blossom recognize it as the same flower you see during

Page 17: Expedition Samloem 2013: Khmer Report

the day. The birds that normally flit about are gone, but a different bird one

you’re not familiar with whistles in the darkness have discovered something

new and for canting about it.

Picture of night diving

7.1. Early night for diving

If you want to dive at night, you can dive 8:00 o’clock pm to avoid

6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, because at these time there are the waves and water up

flow very strong. Disadvantage: The fish swim a little and coral reef still to

catch feed and absorb nitrogen.

7.2. Early morning for diving

If you want to dive in the morning you can dive at 5:00 o’clock,

because these times there aren’t the waves and water down flow. Advantage:

The fish swim a lot and coral reef shows the light.

VIII. Conclusion Internship on the Koh Rong Samleom Island were some experiences that

we got 29th, August, 2013-21st, September, 2013. We could practice in the

future who enjoyed with community for living of fishery and prepare the

Project contact some plans we want to do, such as: aquarium, aquatic, survey

suggest from the fishing community etc.

Advantage of Internship on KRS Island we knew life-time of fisherman

in the sea and how to study Diving.

So, we just protect and conservation resource in the sea of Cambodia

who we studied from our expert.
