Pipelines

The world’s energy resources are often far from where they are needed. Pipelines are the safest and most economical way of transporting large volumes of petroleum and other resources from areas of production/treatment to areas of demand. However, the challenges in delivering a major pipeline project are complex and numerous.

We play a major role in the planning, permitting, design and construction of some of the world’s

longest pipelines. With expertise in route selection, soils engineering, water crossings, permitting, environmental studies, full design services, construction planning, inspection, right-of-way restoration, as well as knowledge of the latest pipeline technologies, we can solve the most complex challenges and deliver a complete pipeline project. We’ve also worked with the industry to develop cost-effective solutions to minimize the potential for any environmental impacts associated with pipeline activities.

Hydroelectric

Hydroelectricity is one of our largest sources of clean power generation, delivering electricity with minimal greenhouse gas emissions. However, a broad range of capability is needed to deliver a hydroelectric project. The team at exp is with you from the beginning, from the initial hydrology and hydraulic studies, to permitting, survey and geotechnical studies. We have the expertise to design hydraulic structures, such as dams, intakes and spillways, as well as the power plant housing for the turbines and generators. Our expertise even covers the transmission lines, switchyards and related electrical and mechanical equipment, and our experienced, multidisciplinary team can help design the necessary supporting infrastructure. Our full range of integrated services allows us to help tap hydroelectric power, whether delivering large government-funded projects, small dams, or run-of-river facilities. From integrated new plants to repairing or maintaining existing facilities, the team at exp can leverage this renewable resource to meet the world’s increasing energy demands.

Renewables & Alternative Energy

In today’s world, we need to fuel more of our global power demand with renewable energy. While many technologies may still be in early stages of development and appear costly, it is clear that the future of electricity generation rests with renewable generation – solar, wind, geothermal, biofuels and waste-to-energy.

We provide services that cover the entire asset life-cycle, strategic planning, design, construction management, and operational support needed for our clients to develop renewable and alternative energy projects – both reliably and economically.

Whether it is siting studies, environmental approvals, project permitting, power generation facilities, transmission lines or supporting infrastructure, our team of professionals has the experience and knowledge to deliver safe, clean, affordable, reliable and renewable energy.

Transmission & Distribution

All power generation facilities must connect to existing transmission and distribution systems. While transmission and distribution requirements can be different from one country to the next, one thing never changes – network managers must ensure the maintenance and reliability of their infrastructure and equipment. Having developed significant expertise in this field, we can assess, restore and replace existing equipment as well as coordinate new installation, expansion or reinforcement projects.

From system siting and development through to detailed design, construction and commissioning, we complete all engineering work required to deploy your facilities while enhancing the reliability of your electrical power grid. Whether it’s feasibility studies, permitting, geomatics, environmental management, line and sub-station design or construction management, we have the global capability, local presence and strong relationships you’re looking for.

Fossil Power

The generation of electrical energy from the combustion of fossil fuels remains the dominant means of power generation in many parts of the world. Despite the desire in recent years to move away from this means of power production for environmental, political and social reasons, the reality in an energy hungry world is that fossil power will remain a significant player in the power generation field for some years to come.

Through years of working with our clients, we have a solid understanding of all the challenges associated with this rapidly changing industry. We’ve helped many clients with the construction, smooth operation, and retrofitting of their facilities.

We’re also highly versed in industry trends and the commercial adoption of new technologies such as Oxy-Fuel combustion, integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC), and carbon capture and sequestration (CCS), and we can help our clients incorporate these technologies into fossil power facilities. With our broad and proven power experience, exp can help utilities deal with the increasing complexities of modern fossil power production.

Our experience spans the complete spectrum of power project activities including feasibility and project scoping studies, complete generating station retrofits, fuel conversions, technology development, air quality control system retrofits and upgrades, detailed engineering, and project management, amongst others. We stand ready to mobilize this experience to help your utility successfully execute its next project.

Nuclear Power

After 30+ years of relative inactivity, the power industry appeared to be on the brink of a nuclear energy renaissance, driven by concerns over global warming and the need to reduce carbon emissions. Nuclear energy offers the possibility of providing large amounts of continuous (base load) power at a competitive market price without producing large quantities of greenhouse gasses, thus ensuring that nuclear energy will continue to grow as part of the energy picture for years to come.

However, following several recent high-profile natural disasters, environmental and safety concerns have led some nations to back away from nuclear power. This, coupled with increasing costs in construction, has made the future of new nuclear generation uncertain.

Our team has been involved in the nuclear power business for decades. We have the experience and knowledge to meet the environmental, safety, social and construction challenges posed by existing and new nuclear facilities.

Our services include safety specialist support, quality management system reviews, complete design, construction and project management for various process and infrastructure projects, including fire protection systems, security systems upgrades, major equipment upgrades and water treatment systems. We understand that the quality of the design, planning, documentation and cost control play a major role in the delivery of successful projects in the nuclear environment. We’re ready to put our extensive experience to work for you.

Oil & Gas Production

Oil and gas has played an important role in the global economy for decades. However, as demand grows and conventional sources diminish, unconventional oil and gas resources are being developed – from oil sands, to deepwater production, to shale-gas and coal-seam methane – often in challenging environments such as arctic climates, deep oceans, or remote deserts and jungles. We’re there with you every step of the way.

We provide project management and consulting engineering services for both land-based and offshore oil and gas projects, including: petroleum refineries, distribution terminals, bulk storage plants, and related retail facilities. From preliminary assessments through to start-up, commissioning and even decommissioning, our multidisciplined team delivers projects from conception to completion.

Beyond production and processing, there is a huge demand for “balance of plant” or “outside battery limits” services. We provide these services across the full asset life-cycle – from concept, to pre-Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED), full FEED, detailed engineering design, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) to operational support. We’re even involved in many decommissioning and re-use projects, and we’ve got the team of experts who can help you throughout your project’s entire life-cycle.

From environmental management and restoration, to the delivery of supporting infrastructure, to the construction of major pipelines, our team has the expertise and proven track-record to get “oil to market” – around the corner or around the globe.
