Exit o Learning the alphabet is the first step for your child
to learn how to read. Letter recognition and phonemic awareness are
the two strongest predictors of reading ability. The alphabet
provides the building blocks of written language while knowledge of
phonemes provides the building blocks of oral language. When the
grapheme (alphabet letter) and the phoneme (associated voiced unit)
are combined, the child has the initial knowledge needed to become
a successful reader.
