The Dance Goes On 15 January - 15 February 2020 The Gympie Times Exhibition Space

Sally Spencer’s major retrospective displays fragments from past installations shown extensively in the regional galleries in Queensland.

Sally graduated from Art College in London in 1967 as a sculptor, and started on installations in 1987, incorporating movement through working with dancers.

Using clay as the major part of her practice, ‘the stuff of earth’, Sally explores symbolism as a powerful way of conveying ideas and meaning.

Paper, Scissors, Rock 15 January - 15 February 2020 Gallery 3

Works on paper by Canberra based artist Julie Bradley which draw on the rich layers of meaning and symbolism associated with stones.

Within different cultures, stones have been used to represent permanence and strength, to celebrate and memorialise as well as to mark births and deaths, express love and hate.

They are also respected for their practical uses, to both build up and to break down.

Using the techniques of collage and drawing, Julie creates works on paper which investigate the idea of connectedness and express aspects of an emotional landscape and states of being.

Women United 19 February - 14 March 2020 The Gympie Times Exhibition Space

Images of women marching, calling out injustice and inequality, provoked a photographic response from local artist, Charmaine Lyons. In a portraiture gallery of two hundred extraordinary/ordinary women, Charmaine captures the essence and the voice of each subject as Women United. With diverse images of women in their own spaces, we are challenged to reflect on and respond to, the embodied story in each portrait.

Lace 19 February - 14 March 2020 Hugo Du Rietz Gallery

Mary Elizabeth Barron creates an ethereal environment exploring themes of traditional ‘female’ handicrafts and environmental concerns.

This is achieved through the creation of large scale bobbin lace pieces made from clear plastic bags displayed in a way as to allow visitors to become immersed within the exhibition.

Inspired by the Mary River, an installation of artwork will adorn the Gallery veranda.

Arlo Mountford Deep Revolt 29 April - 20 June 2020

The Gympie Times Exhibition Space

Working across video, sculpture and drawing, Arlo Mountford’s practice questions our individual and collective memories of the artistic canon. His works form a dense trove of art historical references that playfully probe the terms in which we engage with art and the way meaning can be twisted, all through a contemporary lens. A Goulburn Regional Art Gallery exhibition toured by Museums & Galleries of NSW. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
