WHAT IS EXHIBITION?

Students identify their personal interests and passions

Students will be placed with other students with similar personal interests and passions

Students use their personal interests and passions to address real world issues

Students apply their learning from previous years

Exhibition is a celebration!

Who We Are

An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

The overarching Central Idea for Exhibition this year is, “Who we are can be reflected through our actions, choices, and approach to challenges.”

EXHIBITION: STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

In each action group, students may create:

a journal

a blog

an oral presentation

examples of use of technology

performances to showcase learning in specialist classes

EXHIBITION: STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

Develop a guided inquiry into a real-life issue with teacher and mentor support (mentors are teachers who volunteer their time to help students)

Demonstrate their development of the PYP attitudes and profiles

Maintain academic honesty by citing sources of information

Reflect on the process of the Exhibition

Complete self- and peer-assessments

EXHIBITION: PERFORMANCE PIECE

Students will use their creativity to develop a skit, movie trailer, song, poem, speech, or dance.

EXHIBITION: PYSICAL DISPLAY

Students will create a physical display to share their information

This does not necessarily need to be a display board as shown

EXHIBITION: PYP LANGUAGE

Students will demonstrate the transdisciplinary skills: communication, research, social, self-management, and thinking

Students will display positive attitudes: appreciation, commitment, confidence, cooperation, creativity, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm, independence, integrity, respect, and tolerance

Students will show an understanding of the PYP main concepts: causation, change, connection, form, function, perspective, responsibility and reflection

EXHIBITION: TIMELINE

The exhibition process will last 8 weeks starting in March

Students will:

create the central idea

develop an action

be formed into small groups with similar interest

create a timeline of tasks that need to be accomplished

document the Exhibition process through journals and blogs

EXHIBITION: TIMELINE

Students will continue literacy and numeracy lessons

Literacy will be part of the Exhibition process

Numeracy will focus on operations of fractions & decimals and pre-algebra concepts

Students will continue numeracy and reading homework but writing homework will focus on the Exhibition

Most class time will be focused on working on inquiries and taking action

EXHIBITION: PARENT ROLE

Have an understanding of the purpose and requirements of the Exhibition

Support and encourage students and teachers throughout the inquiry to make it an authentic student-driven inquiry

Keep informed about the Exhibition by checking in with your child

EXHIBITION: PARENT ROLE

Help your child access resources including: people, places, and information

Provide your expert knowledge on a field of study when able

Encourage independent inquiry from your child

Ensure that information is used responsibly and not just copied and pasted

Celebrate with your child by attending the Exhibition on April 21st from 6pm to 8:30pm!
