CASTRO: Continued from page B1 BOYS BASKETBALL Cardinals’ shooting too much for Spartans to handle By Patrick Dillon @PDillon_SGN LINDSAY – Along the Orange Belt there is no love lost between Lindsay and Strathmore, espe- cially in sports. That can cause emotions to run high when the Cardinals and Spartans meet. The Cardinals however, kept theirs in check as they rolled the Spartans 67-44 at home on Fri- day night, Jan. 26. “It was an very emotional night for both sides,” Lindsay head coach Frank Morin said. “We were able to control that emotion along with shooting the ball really well.” The Cardinals (8-15, 3-2) did in fact shoot the ball very well. As a team they combined for 11 triples. The most came from Is- sac Munoz, who had five on the night from beyond the arc. “It just clicked for us tonight,” Munoz said. “It was great team- work, and a great team win.” Three of Munoz’s triples came during an 11-3 run half- way through the first quarter. His first gave the Cardinals the lead for good at 8-7. Then after a double by Ernie Bautista un- derneath the basket Munoz hit back-to-back triples to make the score 18-10. Lindsay took their time work- ing the ball around the outside. Patiently they passed the ball back and forth, looking for an open lane or shot. That allowed Bautista to finish the quarter with seven straight points. After a double and a triple, his last points came with two seconds left. As he drove the lane he pulled up for a jump shot from the free throw line and made the score 25-12. Over the previous weeks, the Cardinals have been focused on improving their shooting. Play- ers have been putting in extra time when they can in order to get shots up, even in the morn- ing before school. “We’ve seen the commitment that this team has put in, and especially the individual guys,” Morin said. Strathmore’s height, while noticeable, was a moot point all night for the Spartans (6-17, 1-4). A six-point run that begin the third quarter, and two blocks by 6-foot-6 center Nick Salas at various points in the game were the high points. “The game plan is to go inside to our bigs,” Strathmore head coach Justin St. Clair said. While the outside shot was working for Lindsay, Morin knew his team had to drive the lane. Javier Avalos mostly took care of that task. Twice early on in the second quarter, he used a quick first step to drive the lane for layups to make the score 29-12. Avalos finished with 20 points. Avalos was such a threat, that a simple crossover dribble seemed to throw off the Spar- tans’ defender, and to allow him to make a pass to another Cardinal cutting toward the basket. Even 5-foot-5 Munoz seemed to not be intimidated by the Spartan’s height. Toward the end of the third quarter, with Lindsay leading 57-34, Munoz drove the middle of the key. He was met by 6-foot-3 Alfonso Martinez. Instead of trying to dribble around Munoz, he shot a floater up over the top of the forward for a double, extending their lead to 59-34. “I knew, if I drove, I was go- ing to encounter him. But I was just able to float the ball over,” Munoz said. Later in the fourth quarter, Munoz made his last triple, earning himself a team high of 21 points. In that final quarter, Lindsay began to work the clock down as much as possible with each possession. With the win, the Cardinals remain tied with Sierra Pacific Golden Bears for second place in the East Sequoia League. They are one game behind Granite Hills and Corcoran. Lindsay looked to take over sole possession of second place last night against the Golden Bears. The final score in that game was reached after press time. On Thursday, they take on one of the first place teams, the Granite Hills Grizzlies, on their court at 7:30 p.m. For Strathmore, it is back to the drawing board as they host- ed the Woodlake Tigers last night. Final score was reached after press time. Strathmore will host Sierra Pacific on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Lindsay makes 11 triples in 67-44 win over rival Strathmore PATRICK DILLON/ @PDILLON_SGN Javier Avalos drives the lane during the Cardinals’ 67-44 win over Strathmore on Friday night, Jan. 26. In the first half Strathmore had over exerted themselves by trying to play too much on defense. That meant when Strathmore had to make the transition to offense there was no one up far enough to at- tack. While they were playing an inner district rival it could have been because they are in first place in the East Sequoia League. Over the past two sea- sons Strathmore has finished in third and second place. “We can’t go into the game thinking about first place,” Madrigal said. “We just have to go into the game thinking about how good we have been playing.” Another thing that Strath- more has been focused on is their rematch with their rival the Lindsay Cardinals. Both teams played last night with the final happening after press time. Strathmore has not de- feated Lindsay twice in one season since before 2006. away by the end of the third quarter 55-29. Despite being without Marlene Gutierrez, who sat out of the game after suffering a right knee injury in 53-45 loss to Corcoran on Wednesday, the Cardinals continued to battle hard. On numerous occasions the Car- dinals were on the ground fighting for loose balls and took contact in the lanes. “I’ll take that effort with out one of my best players any day,” Torres said. “We battled, and you could not tell me at the end of that game it was a thirty-point difference with the way we are reacting.” Even the physicality of the game took Her- nandez back. Although winning in a high intensity atmosphere is something that he hopes his team takes with them to the sec- ond half of league. Most importantly in the rematch against the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. in Han- ford. “Hopefully this win will get us a little men- tally prepared,” Hernandez said. Lindsay also has a tough slate this week which began last night at home against Si- erra Pacific. Final happened after press time. Tomorrow night the Cardinals will travel to Woodlake and play the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. SOTO: Continued from page B1 SPARTANS: Continued from page B2 committed by Exeter. With the gym cleared little happened the Monarchs were unable to recover and failed to score in the final seconds. Only Dinuba was able to score in regulation to take the 55-47 win. Afterwards, the referees were escorted away from the gym, and Exeter Police ar- rived. According to the admin- istrators the police were called as a precautionary measure. “We just wanted to make sure that everyone got home safe,” said Assistant Principal Dr. Michelle Chapman. The events that unfolded in the closing seconds left many scratching their head in disbelief at what had just transpired. While the behav- ior of some crowd members ultimately cost the Monarchs a game they had a chance to win, the players lack of intensity at the beginning of the game hurt just a much. “We can’t just pick and choose when we want to play,” Hylton said. “We’ve got to play with some intensity from the beginning.” Only three players scored for the Monarchs in the first quar- ter. Of which Megan Enriquez was the only player with mul- tiple baskets. Her seven points out did both Zoie Belk, and Kenedi Baxter-Jones as both team ended the quarter tied 12-12. At the start of the third quarter the Monarchs had fallen behind 29-24. That was when they began playing with some urgency. A layup by Tea- gan Bryant gave the Monarchs their first lead of the half 32-31. Bryant helped keep her team close with three more points. Along with a made triple by Allison Vargas and a layup by Belk, Exeter took a 40-37 lead into the final quarter. Exeter was able to stay ahead briefly, but Dinuba chipped away at their lead. After a four point run Dinuba retook the lead 47-45. All Exeter could do after that was tie up the game one other time. “We had our chances, but things just did not happen,” Hylton said. With the first half of league completed the Monarchs cur- rently sit in a tie for second place in the CSL with the Im- manuel Eagles. They will take to the court tonight on the road against the Kingsburg Vikings at 7:30 p.m. FANS: Continued from page B1 GIRLS SOCCER Monarchs ready for Viking rematch By Patrick Dillon @PDillon_SGN EXETER – The last time the Monarchs surrendered a goal in a Central Sequoia League game, it re- sulted in a 1-0 loss to the Kingsburg Vikings on Jan. 11. Since that time, Monarchs have shut out their last four opponents by a combined score of 9-0. The most recent came last Thursday night as the Monarchs dominated the Emperors 3-0. “We are beginning to find a groove right now with some younger players stepping up,” Exeter head coach Darin Lasky said. “We are ready to go.” Ten minutes into the game, Exeter (10-4, 5-1) had established their offensive prowess by mostly attacking up the right side to allow one crossing pass after another. Unfortunately, the first seven passes were placed too far ahead of any charging players. “That last connection is our issue right now,” Lasky said. “We pull that together and things are going to open up for us.” In the 23rd minute, Exeter finally connected on a crossing pass inside the box. The ball found the foot of charging Kaytee Davidson, who ran past the Dinuba (1-20-2, 0-5-1) defender. Reaching the open field, she tried to kick the ball toward the far post, but went wide. Shortly after that attack, Exeter broke through and scored. In the 26th minute, Bri- anna Maciel took the ball up the center of the penalty box. As she dribbled the ball, she was tripped up, awarding Exeter with a penalty kick. Lexe Cortez was the one who took the shot, and buried it in the upper right hand cor- ner of the net. “I don’t look at the ball, or the keeper, and just stay focused on the shot,” Cortez said. Cortez added her second goal with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. Off another attack up the right side she sent the ball from the 20 yard line up and over the Dinuba goal keeper. In the second half, Maciel scored the Monarchs’ third goal from the middle of the penalty box. The win over Dinuba came two days after Ex- eter ended one of their more undesirable streaks. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Exeter defeated the Cen- tral Valley Christian Cavaliers (6-10-2, 1-3-1) 1-0. Cortez scored the lone goal in that game to hand Exeter their first win since before 2007. “That was a huge win for use,” Lasky said. Also in that game, senior goal keeper Taylor Hornburg saw significant playing time. Horn- burg returned the week before from an ankle injury. Hornburg also played the first half of Ex- eter’s win over Dinuba. Hopefully, her experience will lend a hand in stopping Vikings striker Ma- rissa Montelongo, who has 21 goals this season. The Vikings and the Monarchs meet on the pitch at Kingsburg High School at 6 p.m. tonight. Exeter wins four in a row before rematch with D-IV valley champions

cardinals’ shooting too much for spartans to handle

By Patrick Dillon@PDillon_SGN

lindsay – Along the Orange Belt there is no love lost between Lindsay and Strathmore, espe-cially in sports. That can cause emotions to run high when the Cardinals and Spartans meet. The Cardinals however, kept theirs in check as they rolled the Spartans 67-44 at home on Fri-day night, Jan. 26.

“It was an very emotional night for both sides,” Lindsay head coach Frank Morin said. “We were able to control that emotion along with shooting the ball really well.”

The Cardinals (8-15, 3-2) did in fact shoot the ball very well. As a team they combined for 11 triples. The most came from Is-sac Munoz, who had five on the night from beyond the arc.

“It just clicked for us tonight,” Munoz said. “It was great team-work, and a great team win.”

Three of Munoz’s triples came during an 11-3 run half-way through the first quarter. His first gave the Cardinals the lead for good at 8-7. Then after a double by Ernie Bautista un-derneath the basket Munoz hit back-to-back triples to make the score 18-10.

Lindsay took their time work-ing the ball around the outside.

Play-ers have been putting in extra time when they can in order to get shots up, even in the morn-ing before school.

“We’ve seen the commitment that this team has put in, and especially the individual guys,”

Morin said.Strathmore’s height, while

noticeable, was a moot point all night for the Spartans (6-17, 1-4).

Avalos was such a threat, that a simple crossover dribble seemed to throw off the Spar-tans’ defender, and to allow him to make a pass to another Cardinal cutting toward the basket.

Even 5-foot-5 Munoz seemed to not be intimidated by the Spartan’s height. Toward the end of the third quarter, with Lindsay leading 57-34, Munoz drove the middle of the key. He was met by 6-foot-3 Alfonso Martinez. Instead of trying to

dribble around Munoz, he shot a floater up over the top of the forward for a double, extending their lead to 59-34.

“I knew, if I drove, I was go-ing to encounter him.

For Strathmore, it is back to the drawing board as they host-ed the Woodlake Tigers last night. Final score was reached after press time. Strathmore will host Sierra Pacific on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

tack. While they were playing an inner district rival it could have been because they are in first place in the East Sequoia League. Over the past two sea-sons Strathmore has finished in third and second place.

“We can’t go into the game thinking about first place,” Madrigal said. “We just have to go into the game thinking

about how good we have been playing.”

Another thing that Strath-more has been focused on is their rematch with their rival the Lindsay Cardinals. Both teams played last night with the final happening after press time. Strathmore has not de-feated Lindsay twice in one season since before 2006.

away by the end of the third quarter 55-29.Despite being without Marlene Gutierrez,

who sat out of the game after suffering a right knee injury in 53-45 loss to Corcoran on Wednesday, the Cardinals continued to battle hard. On numerous occasions the Car-dinals were on the ground fighting for loose balls and took contact in the lanes.

“I’ll take that effort with out one of my best players any day,” Torres said. “We battled, and you could not tell me at the end of that game it was a thirty-point difference with the

way we are reacting.”Even the physicality of the game took Her-

nandez back. Although winning in a high intensity atmosphere is something that he hopes his team takes with them to the sec-ond half of league. Most importantly in the rematch against the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. in Han-ford.

“Hopefully this win will get us a little men-tally prepared,” Hernandez said.

Lindsay also has a tough slate this week which began last night at home against Si-erra Pacific. Final happened after press time. Tomorrow night the Cardinals will travel to Woodlake and play the Tigers at 7:30 p.m.

committed by Exeter. With the gym cleared little

happened the Monarchs were unable to recover and failed to score in the final seconds. Only Dinuba was able to score in regulation to take the 55-47 win.

Afterwards, the referees were escorted away from the gym, and Exeter Police ar-rived. According to the admin-istrators the police were called as a precautionary measure.

“We just wanted to make sure that everyone got home safe,” said Assistant Principal Dr. Michelle Chapman.

The events that unfolded in the closing seconds left many scratching their head in disbelief at what had just

transpired. While the behav-ior of some crowd members ultimately cost the Monarchs a game they had a chance to win, the players lack of intensity at the beginning of the game hurt just a much.

“We can’t just pick and choose when we want to play,” Hylton said. “We’ve got to play with some intensity from the beginning.”

Only three players scored for the Monarchs in the first quar-ter. Of which Megan Enriquez was the only player with mul-tiple baskets. Her seven points out did both Zoie Belk, and Kenedi Baxter-Jones as both team ended the quarter tied 12-12.

At the start of the third quarter the Monarchs had fallen behind 29-24. That was when they began playing with some urgency. A layup by Tea-

gan Bryant gave the Monarchs their first lead of the half 32-31.

With the first half of league completed the Monarchs cur-rently sit in a tie for second place in the CSL with the Im-manuel Eagles. They will take to the court tonight on the road against the Kingsburg Vikings at 7:30 p.m.

Monarchs ready for Viking rematch

By Patrick Dillon@PDillon_SGN

exeter – The last time the Monarchs surrendered a goal in a Central Sequoia League game, it re-sulted in a 1-0 loss to the Kingsburg Vikings on Jan.

“We are ready to go.”

Ten minutes into the game, Exeter (10-4, 5-1) had established their offensive prowess by mostly attacking up the right side to allow one crossing pass after another. Unfortunately, the first seven passes were placed too far ahead of any charging players.

“That last connection is our issue right now,” Lasky said. “We pull that together and things are going to open up for us.”

In the 23rd minute, Exeter finally connected on a crossing pass inside the box. The ball found the foot of charging Kaytee Davidson, who ran past the Dinuba (1-20-2, 0-5-1) defender. Reaching the open field, she tried to kick the ball toward the far post, but went wide.

Shortly after that attack, Exeter broke through and scored. In the 26th minute, Bri-anna Maciel took the ball up the center of the penalty box. As she dribbled the ball, she was tripped up, awarding Exeter with a penalty kick. Lexe Cortez was the one who took the shot, and buried it in the upper right hand cor-ner of the net.

The win over Dinuba came two days after Ex-eter ended one of their more undesirable streaks. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Exeter defeated the Cen-tral Valley Christian Cavaliers (6-10-2, 1-3-1) 1-0. Cortez scored the lone goal in that game to hand Exeter their first win since before 2007.

“That was a huge win for use,” Lasky said. Also in that game, senior goal keeper Taylor

Hornburg saw significant playing time. Horn-burg returned the week before from an ankle injury. Hornburg also played the first half of Ex-eter’s win over Dinuba. Hopefully, her experience will lend a hand in stopping Vikings striker Ma-rissa Montelongo, who has 21 goals this season.

The Vikings and the Monarchs meet on the pitch at Kingsburg High School at 6 p.m. tonight.

NOTICE OF TRUST-EE’S SALENOTICE TO POTEN-TIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bid-ding on a lien, not on the property itself. Plac-ing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear owner-ship of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auc-tioned off may be a ju-nior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for pay-ing off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can re-ceive clear title to the property. You are en-couraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contact-ing the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on this property.NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pur-suant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postpone-ments be made avail-able to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (866)-960-8299 or visit this Internet Web site http://www.altisource.com/MortgageServices/DefaultManagement/TrusteeServices.aspx using the file number assigned to this case 2017-02293-CA.
