Dustin White | Visiting Assistant Professor EXERCISE | 006_A ARCH 3501 : Architecture Design Studio 4 _ Fall 2011 Structure Research Resources : Glass Construction Manual Steel Construction Manual Concrete Construction Manual Roof Construction Manual Facade Construction Manual Based on your material and surface typologies, develop a research foundation on the layers of your project. Use the resources above and others provided in previous assignments to locate a series of details. Roof | Foundation | Footings (pier) | Trusses | Box Truss | Glazing details | Columns | Beams | primary system | secondary system You may repeat the same or similar systems that you used on the previous proj- ect. You will need to update or change in information necessary. Output A clear set of research pages on the layers of your project. You will also need to (hand) SKETCH a detailed wall section of a part of your project. This must be what you think is the more difficult section of your project. The sketch must be drawn to scale and must have a key. You may use a 2D section of your digital model as a guide to trace over. Plan Structure Grid Begin to generate a structural grid on your plan. Label the grid properly. Remember that the grid spacing is a reflection of the type of structural system you are using and the size of the members. Digital Model Update your digital model and digital site model to reflect current state of your project. This means no massing. Site model should contain context in- formation such as highway, buildings, curbs, etc.. 23 / NATATORIUM / LASER CUT MODEL // ABOVE : Wall Section 1 2’-6” x 9’ x 1/4” custom preforated zinc panel 2 1’ x 2” facade post, laminated safety glass 3 2” insulated glass 4 1’ x 3” aluminum facade beam 5 1’-8” x 1’ custom vierendeel truss, hollow steel tube section 6 1’ x 2” glass roof beam, laminated safety glass 7 1” steel tension cable 8 steel turnbuckle 9 1’ concrete wall 10 2’ x 6’ fresh air supply air duct 11 6” concrete flat plate 1 3 2 4 7 9 10 8 11 5 6 Natatorium - Dustin White (wall section) Nanjing Sifang Art Museum - Steven Holl (structure grid)
