Casa Romantica is the cultural heart of San Clemente, and provides accessible and high caliber access to arts, history, and horticulture in south Orange County. It has seen uprecedented growth over the past three years and its successful trajectory as a cultural center is valuable and important to our community.

The following report examines the growth of Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens as defined by a number of different metrics. Please note that all FY16-17 figures are accurately projected. Our fiscal year ends on June 30.

Casa Romantica has seen a 172% increase in visitor general admissions, a 217% increase in program patrons, and a 32% increase in weddings and private events.

The growth of our events is positively correlated with Casa Romantica Membership increase, which shows the community’s involvement and desire to participate in cultural, educational, horticultural, and artistic programs.

Casa Romantica has seen a 93% increase in the number of children who have taken advantage of year-round Casa Kids programs. These programs include school field trips, weekly storytime, Swazzle puppet show, arts and horticulture workshops, the San Clemente High School Artists of Tomorrow exhibition, the annual Casa Romantica Music Festival and Academy, the annual Summer Dance Workshop, and now, D. Yoder Family Sundays (held on the first Sunday of each month).

Casa Romantica has seen a 145% growth in volunteer hours from FY11-12 to FY16-17. The value of a volunteer hour was calculated to equal $23.07 in 2016, which translates into a value of $181,672 to the San Clemente community.

Casa Romantica has planted an average of 633 new tree and plant specimens each year since 2014. Casa Romantica has also created pathways, improved lighting, maintained irrigation, improved lawn care, and even placed a new sculpture in the Native Bowl garden.

Casa Romantica has seen a 125% overall growth, which includes general admission, programming patrons, and attendees to weddings and private events.

From budget deficits in FY11-12 to budget surpluses beginning in FY12-13, Casa Romantica hasnot only increased but balanced its budget. Casa Romantica has seen an 18% percent operating budget increase, which translates into more offerings for the San Clemente community.
