The Special Olympics World Games took place in Los Angeles, California from July 25 through August 1 and Anthem was able to be a part of it! Through a $70,000 grant from the Anthem Foundation and Specialty Business, Anthem was the title sponsor of the Healthy Athletes Area for the Games, providing all participating athletes with health screenings and fittings for items like eye glasses and tennis shoes. Anthem’s Abilities Beyond Limited Expectations (ABLE) Associate Resource Group spearheaded the work behind obtaining the grant, with their Executive Sponsor and Anthem Wisconsin Plan President, Lawrence Schreiber at the helm. “At Anthem, we care about the health of our communities and through ABLE, we are supporting the empowerment of people with disabilities,” remarked Schreiber. “It has been an honor to be a partner of the Special Olympics.” Leaders of the ABLE ARG coordinated with over 100 Anthem associates and their friends and family to volunteer as “Fans in the Stands”, cheering on the athletes as they participated across greater Los Angeles in sports such as soccer, equestrian, swimming, and cycling. ABLE ARG co-chair and Special Olympics Volunteer Lead Craig Girard said it best, “To see the athletes working together and enjoying the competition is amazing and overwhelming. I am so proud that Anthem and the ABLE ARG could be there!” Check inside for photos from the Special Olympics World Games through the eyes of Anthem!
