the career development cen-ter is pleased to present the WPi class of 2010 statistical report, which provides informa-tion on the postgraduate ac-tivities of bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD recipients between
october 2009 and July 2010. the salary and placement data were obtained through a survey of students and include information on all students as well as those who were registered with the cDc; the surveys were conducted by the cDc between may and november 2010.
the 2009–10 academic year continued to be a dif-ficult one for college-level recruiting, as the tight economy had impacted the number of opportunities available for WPi graduates. the placement rate for 2010 grads who’d registered with the cDc, which includes full-time employment plus graduate school attendance or enlistment in the military, was 86 per-cent, exactly as it was for the class of 2009. the economy clearly had an impact on the placement rate of WPi students, as the number still seeking employment remained at 14 percent.
the majority of WPi graduates have stayed in the new England area, with massachusetts retaining the highest number. some students began their employment in areas throughout the united states (southeast, southwest, midwest and Pacific coast). the average salary for engineering graduates was $58,126, computer science $66,350, mathematical sciences $58,300, and biological sciences $44,262. the average starting salary for a WPi graduate with a bachelor’s degree is $56,877, while the average starting salary for a WPi master’s degree recipient is $69,993. more than 55 percent of students found jobs through one of the career Development center’s services: job listings, on-campus recruiting, resume referral, career fairs, and internships.
this report includes placement information and aver-age salaries by major, in addition to that on underrep-resented and women students. it also includes a list of the top hiring employers for the class, a historical 10-year summary, and a list of graduate and professional schools by area of study.
