This worksheet accompanies the video “Coral Reefs and Animal Diversity“ available on YouTube (https://youtu.be/6PCOPkZSAhk). Use the information provided in the video to work on the following tasks. 1. The video works with visual representations of relationships between groups of animals similar to the one shown on the left.
a. In your own words, describe what information these illustrations contain and how they represent it.
b. Deduce from the illustration on the left how A, B, C, and D are related to one another.
2. The table on the next page summarizes the groups of animals introduced in the video. Fill in their names at the correct location
and list important characteristics and facts for each group.
3. Using the pictures below as guidance, describe how hard corals create the foundation of coral reefs.
4. The subphylum ‘vertebrates’ can be divided into different classes, six of which are discussed in the video. List some characteristics of each class below.
5. The following table lists groups of animals that can be found in and around coral reefs. Determine the phylum and class they belong to by checking the appropriate boxes.
6. Below the line, you can see 13 images of animals living in and around coral reefs. Cut them out, and glue them into the correct lines in the columns labeled ‘examples’ in task 2 and 4.
