downtothelocallevel,meaningboththeformerSouthernCaliforniaSec1onandtheInlandEmpireChapter.ButbeforeI

getaheadofmyself,firstthingsfirst.Ourapprecia1ongoesouttoDr.JeffKeatonforhispresenta1onatourDecember

mee1ng,“Innova1veModifica1ontoImproveResilienceoftheLosAngelesAqueductaXerthenextSanAndreas

Earthquake”.ItneverceasestoamazemeonthebroadvarietyoftopicsandknowledgepossessedbyDr.Keaton.The

talkwasveryinteres1ngandthetopicbroughtoutalotofmembersIhaven’tseeninawhile.Ibelievethiswasnotonly

duetothespeakerandthetopicbut,alsotopossibleapplica1onsrelatedtowatersupplyintheInlandEmpireandfuture

earthquakes.Anaddi1onalnodgoestoDr.Keaton,asmemberFrankJordanpointedout,forhisabilitytomaintainhis

composureandtalkovertheadjacentChristmaspartyintheroomatPinnaclePeak.Ah,theholidayseason.

TheAEG-InlandEmpireChapterwillbebusy,atleastoverthenextmonth,fulfillingrequestsfromAEGNa1onal,which

refersbackto“…alotofac1vity…”inmyopeningsentence.OnDecember28th,Ireceivedane-mailfrommemberKerry

Cato,passedalongbyEldonGath,AEGSouthernCARegionalDirector,fromAEGPresident,DaleAndrews.Assomeof

youareaware,theInlandEmpireChapterformedover10yearsagoundertheSouthernCASec1oninaccordancewith

AEGbylaws,andapparently,thisoccurredinmanySec1onsacrossthecountry.UnderthenewAEGgovernance

establishedin2016,theSec1onshavebeenrestructuredintoRegionswithnewboundariesanddirectorsvotedinfor

eachRegion(EldonGath).Inaddi1on,underthenewgovernancestructure,AEGeliminatedthislayer(Sec1ons)within

theAssocia1oninhopesthatmany(AEGusestheterm“sub-chapter)wouldbecometheirownstand-aloneChapter.In

essence,theslatehasbeenwipedcleanandallformerSec1onsandChaptersneedtosubmitinforma1ontoAEGNa1onal

inordertoberecognizedaslegi1mateChapterswithintheirrespec1veRegions.WiththenewAEGGovernance,thisis

veryimportantforustofinallybeofficiallyrecognizedbyAEGNa1onalasalegi1mateChapter.Basedontheinforma1on

inthee-mailImen1onedearlier,it’sclearonwhatweneedtodotoformallyestablishandmaintaintheAEG-Inland

EmpireChapter.Ataminimum,weneedtosubmitthefollowingtoAEGNa1onalbyJanuary15th:A)Ape11onwithat

leasteightsignaturesofmembersthatresidewithinthenewChapter;B)appointaChairandTreasurer(ataminimum,

wehavethisalready);C)provideanameforthenewChapterfromtheappointedChair(wehavethisalready),andD)

defineapointwithintheUnitedStatesthatwilldefinetheirhub(Riverside,CAhasbeendecideduponbytheOfficers).In

aresponsefromAEGNa1onalonFriday,January6th,IwasinformedtheJanuary15thdeadlineisnotaharddeadline,

althoughwemusthavethisinforma1ontothemnolaterthanWednesday,February15th(somebreathingroom).The

mostimportantitemisItemA,thepe11on.Wewillmakeape11onandhaveitavailableforsignaturesbyAEGmembers

atourWednesday,January18thmee1ng.Inaddi1on,wewillalsomakeitavailableforanyAEGmembersthatmightnot

ABSTRACTVerylijleworkhasbeenreportedontheloca1onsandratesofmountainforma1oninthe

centralMojaveBlockofCalifornia,excepttoajributemostupliXandbasinforma1onto

ac1vitythatstartedinthelatestOligoceneandwasmostac1veintheMiocene.This

presenta1onfocusesonnewmeasurementsofalluvialfanstrataintheeasternAXonbasin

thatshow,using1me-averageddeposi1onrates,thatrapidsurfaceupliXofthenorthern

CadyMountainsinthePyramidCanyonareaprobablybeganinthemiddlePleistocene,and

waslikelynotsubstan1albeforethat1me.ThesignificanceofthisfindingisthatQuaternary

diastrophismwasprobablyresponsibleforcrea1ngeasternAXonbasin,andsetupthe

pondingcondi1onsforthestandsofLakeManixthatfollowed.

SPEAKERBIOGRAPHYNormanMeekisaprofessorandchairofGeographyatCSUSanBernardino.HehasaB.A.in

GeologyandGeography (honors) fromKansas, aM.A. inGeography fromMichiganState,

andaPh.D.fromUCLAinGeography(1990).Hisresearchinterestsarebroad,butgenerally

focusonthegrowthof largedrainagenetworksviaoverflow,andthePleistocene lakes in

the southwestern U.S. Last year he made a presenta1on to this audience on the

ineffec1veness of headward erosion (defined as the growth of one drainage basin at the

expenseofanother).
