Housing Application and Deadlines

Here what’s next...

Living on campus is optional and not required. We hope you choose to live on campus with us!

Only students who have accepted their Offer of Admission may apply for Housing.

Information regarding the 2021-2022 Incoming Student Housing Application Process will

be available on your Triton Checklist. Please allow 24-48 hours after accepting the Offer

of Admission to access your checklist at tritonchecklist.ucsd.edu. Please note that your

Housing Application date will have no bearing on Housing assignment placements. Only

students who meet the Admissions and Housing Application deadlines will be able to

move forward onto the Housing Contract Process.

It is very important to check your Housing status regularly in the Housing Portal. Visit:

hdhughousing.ucsd.edu for more information.

May 7 Apply for Housing by the deadline

Mid-May Applicants will be emailed Housing Contract process information to their UC San Diego email address

May 24 Select your Dining Plan, sign the Housing Contract and submit the $450 Housing prepayment

Mid-July Submit any roommate

requests and room type preferences

Late-August Room assignments

and information about move-in will be available

Students who complete the Housing Contract process will be able to

submit roommate requests and room type preferences online in mid-July.

Please keep in mind that your potential roommate needs to be from your

same College of Registration, and you have to request a double room (2

beds in the bedroom).

Family Housing is available in our Grad and Family Housing Communities

for students in a committed relationship or who have children. Students

can indicate their need for Family Housing through the Housing Application

via the Housing Portal. Those that reply “yes” to the Family Housing

question will receive an email with more information. If you would like more

information, please contact us at [email protected] or 858.534.4010.

Due to high demand, all deadlines and requirements will be strictly enforced.

Deadlines and requirements are not appealable.

Incoming First-Year Housing assignments begin in the Residence Halls and

Apartments in the student’s college of registration, then may continue into

other on-campus Housing areas as needed.

Incoming Transfer Housing assignments will begin at Seventh College, then

may continue into other on-campus Housing areas as needed.

Fluctuations in undergraduate Housing, high enrollments, or recommendations

by public health officials may affect Housing placements.

Students will find out their room assignment in late August.

AssignmentsRoom and Board Rates

On-campus Housing is styled to look like a regular Apartment with 2-6

bedrooms and a shared common area with bathrooms and showers in the

suite. The main difference between the Residence Hall and Apartment

layout is the in-suite kitchen – Residence Halls don’t have a kitchen, but

Apartments do!

Your Housing Contract includes a Dining Plan, good for use at a variety of

HDH Dining Services restaurants and markets across campus.

Dining Services locations operate like any other restaurant or market—

decide to purchase as much or as little as you need, and pay only for

those items. This “a la carte” style of service is designed to provide

flexibility, so you’re not charged a flat rate just to walk through the door.

The Dining Plan is linked to your campus ID card, and your entire balance

is loaded in the Fall. Dining Dollars are deducted from the students’

balance just as a debit card deducts from a bank account; there is even an

Online Card Office to keep track of balances. Dining Dollars are available

throughout the entire academic year and into the summer and following

Fall quarter if your contract is not terminated early.

Be on the lookout for our Dining Brochure coming out in May (First-Year

Students)/June (Transfers) with more information on our program and

how to select the Dining Plan that best meets your needs.

Whether your special diet is medically necessitated or a cultural/lifestyle choice, you have access to

an on-site Registered Dietitian who will assist you in your daily menu planning needs.

Individuals with medical conditions that require specific dietary accommodations should first contact

the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) as early as possible at osd.ucsd.edu. Once registered

with OSD, our Registered Dietitian will meet with you to set up an individualized plan, assuring your

nutritional needs are met.

If you need a Medical Housing Accommodation, it is imperative that you apply for Housing by your

deadline AND contact the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) immediately. If you have

questions about Medically Based Housing Accommodations, please contact our Housing Liaison at

858.534.8567 or [email protected].
