Defining Social Change
Critics feel that ‘Social Change’ is too basic of a term and needs further context:
Sociocultural evolution Paradigmatic change Political revolution Social movement/revolutions
Sociocultural Evolution
The idea that society moves forward by looking from different perspectives, arguing over certain points of view then eventually changing.
Paradigmatic Change
When society shifts from one point of view or way of thinking to another (eg. Feudalism to capitalism).
Political Revolution
Political Revolutions occur when the government is replaced, or the form of government altered.
Typically the working class takes control of governing
Social Movements/Revolutions
People within a society advocate for change
Can result in massive changes in societyTypically governing is not taken over by
the working class, another elite group takes over
