What is E-Rate?The E-Rate program provides discounts to assist most schools and libraries in the United States to obtain affordable telecommunications and internet services.

Four service categories are funded

• Telecommunications Services• Internet Access• Internal Connections• Basic Maintenance

Rate provide?• discounts of 20 to 90 percent depending on economic need and location (urban or rural).• discount is based on the percentage of students eligible for participation the National School Lunch Program

To apply for E-rate discounts you must:

1. Develop a technology plan2. Submit FCC Form 4703. Provide for a 28-day

competitive bidding period

4. Select service provider/sign contracts

5. Submit FCC Form 471

The Technology Plan• bond election at the end of the 2010-2011 school year• outcomes of the bond will be smart boards and Interwrite pads in each classroom, ceiling mounted projectors and digital video cameras for use the classroom to create podcasts• HEB currently has a server for faculty use to provide podcasts to students.• HEB is in the process of replacing all teacher desktops with laptops and docking stations• All teachers have a website and are required to keep current information on the website• Federal Stimulus money was used at the elementary level to provide smart boards, Interwrite pads, laptops and student computers to some or our campuses.

Answer Critical Questions:

• What is my current educational technology profile in the areas of Teaching and Learning and Educator Preparation and Development? • What is my knowledge of online learning, technology resources, instructional support, and planning on my campus? • What evidence can be provided to demonstrate my progress in meeting the goals of the Long Range Plan for Technology and No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D? • In what areas can I improve my level of technology integration to ensure the best possible teaching and learning for my students? • What are the technology standards required of all beginning teachers and recommended for all current Texas teachers?
