Vision According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, mostpeople should receive a complete eye exam every two years.People who wear glasses, have diabetes or are over the age of55 should get checked more frequently.
DentalThe American Dental Association recommends that adultsand children have a dental check up and cleaning everysix months. Patients with gum disease should visit thedentist every 3 months.
HearingThe risk for hearing loss dramatically increas-es after age 50. If you are worried aboutyour hearing, talk to your doctor or nurseand they can schedule a hearing test.
Breast ExamsWomen should perform breast self-examsmonthly beginning at age 20. After age 40,women should have mammograms doneannually. These exams check for any cancer-ous lumps. Early detection improves thechances of diagnosing and treating cancersuccessfully. Women with a family historymay need to have exams done at an earlierage and more frequently. For more informa-tion on breast cancer and how to performself-exams, visit www.breastcancer.org.
HeartCholesterol tests assess the risk for coronaryheart and/or artery disease. Women shouldbegin getting a cholesterol check up every5 years at the age of 45. Womenbetween the ages of 20 and 45 whohave other risk factors for heartdisease should also get their choles-terol tested. These factors include tobacco use, diabetes, high blood pressure or a family historyof heart disease. To find out what the numbersmean, and learn how to lower them, check outthe Cholesterol Center at www.webmd.com.
Pelvic Exam A pelvic exam includes inspection of the external genitalia for lesions or abnormalities, a pap smear via a speculum exam, a bimanual exam to palpate uterine size as well as ovaries, and often times a rectal exam among other techniques as deemed necessary. Every female with ovaries needs a yearly pelvic exam to evaluate ovaries for cysts and or masses.
ColonoscopyThis procedure allows the doctor to look insideyour large intestine in order to detect any abnor-mal growths, ulcers or cancers. A colonoscopyshould be performed at the age of 50 and shouldbe done every 5 – 10 years thereafter. Accordingto the Center for Disease Control, colorectal canceris the second leading cancer killer in the US, butwith regular screening tests, one-third of thosedeaths could be avoided. For more information, visit www.cdc.gov/screenforlife.

Is Your Site Mobile? Before you begin to update
or develop your Web site, make sure you have talked with your web designer about optimizing your site for
browsing via mobile devices.
Responsive Web Design has quickly become the go-to
method for optimizing your site to provide the same functionality
to all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile and future devices) from the same url. This industry best
practice is the solution that Google recommends and
allows you to devote your resources to one project instead
of developing separate sites, apps, etc. for each device.
If responsive web design is not the best solution for your
business, talk to your web designer about using different code - on the same URL or on different URLs - to ensure that
your users are getting the experience they expect from
your Web site.

Women in Leadership
When examining leadership effectiveness, John Zenger and
Joseph Folkman’s research shows that women’s natural
assets make them better equipped for the modern,
collaborative model of leadership. And yet, a 2012
Catalyst Census showed that women’s representation in
Fortune 500 leadership positions has stagnated in recent years. Some explanations offered:
• Fewer women role models to encourage and facilitate advancement.
• Women have lower expectations thinking they are under-qualified for positions that an equally-adept male
thinks he deserves.
• Women are not attracted to the culture at “the top”, thus
making the decision to exit the corporate structure to launch
successful businesses.
• Families make the choice for women to take on less-
responsibility at work and more responsibility in the home.

BUSY WOMAN TIPS
Home OrganizationKeeping yourself and your
family organized and on task is easier when you create systems
that work for you. 1. Create a “Command Central”
in your home where things naturally pile up - most-likely
near the front or back door. 2. Assess your needs based on
how your family lives. What are you always searching for?
Which items get tossed on the counter when you walk in? Once you determine what items and activities need to
be addressed, create a storage solution for each one.
3) Some items to consider including are:
☐ Bench or Chair☐ Shelving ☐ Baskets or Bins ☐ Bulletin Board☐ Large Calendar☐ Hanging Hooks

Registry Do’s & Don’ts
Do: • Include your partner in
the process. • Register for items in a
range of prices to give your guests options.
• Let people know where you’ve registered by setting up a
Web site and telling shower and party hosts.
• Revisit and update your registry often.
Don’t: • Wait until the last minute;
register with time for showers and engagement parties. • Select items you will
never use. • Overlook the details. Read the
fine print and know what the store’s policies are for shipping,
returns and exchanges. • Make things hard for your
guests by only choosing stores with local-accessibility. Include at least one large chain or store
that has online shopping.

BUSY BRIDE TIPS
Wedding Why’s?
Wedding rings are worn on the third finger of the left hand
because it was once believed that the “vena amori” or vein of love ran from the ring finger to
the heart.
The veil was originally worn by Roman brides to disguise
themselves and outwit malevolent spirits.
Bridesmaids were used to confuse evil spirits by dressing
alike and surrounding the bride.
In medieval times, men wore their swords on their right side, thus would keep that side free in case they needed to draw.
Therefore, if escorted, the bride walks down on the left and the bride’s family and guests sit on
the left side of the aisle.
