Jagathrakshakan Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan, Minister of State, Ministry
of Information & Broadcasting, said that the need of the hour
is to facilitate quality publications for people living in the
remotest corner of the country. It was also necessary to publish
authentic volumes in regional languages so as to cater to the
growing demand. For mainstreaming the use of publications such as
India 2011 Reference Annual, it was also important to make the
content readable by adopting better formatting, styles, pictures,
charts and user friendly content. The Minister stated this while
releasing the India and Bharat Reference Annual here today.
Complimenting the content of the reference annual, the Minister
said it provided a panoramic view of Indias progress apart from
being unique and authentic source of information. Regarding the
marketability and sale of the book, the Minister stated that
efforts should be made to cross the one lakh mark as far as the
number of copies were concerned as compared to the 56,000 copies
printed and sold last year. The Minister called upon State
Governments to order bulk supplies of such publications so as to
provide access to quality information through Libraries and
Government Institutions. The Minister made a mention of the
Government of Tamil Nadu having ordered 10,000 copies of the India
Annual last year. Also speaking on the occasion, Secretary,
I&B, Shri Raghu Menon, said Publication Division should take up
the challenge of reinforcing reading habits amongst young children
by providing quality inexpensive books. He also mentioned that the
marketing processes need to be reworked and assured that all
possible funding would be provided by the Ministry in this
endeavour. The Publications Division could devise a roadmap to
achieve this objective in view of the 12th Plan that was schedule
to commence shortly. Shri Menon also emphasised that the Division
should also aim to publicize books on contemporary subjects so as
to attract the attention of the reader. PUBLICATIONS DIVISION

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA ------ BOOKS ON MARTYRS KHUDIRAM BOSE AND
RAJGURU RELEASED New Delhi, 25th of August 2008 To commemorate the
centenary of Khudiram Boses martyrdom and birth centenary of martyr
Rajguru, Publications Division, Ministry of Information &
Broadcasting, Government of India has brought out two books on
these revolutionaries. These are Khudiram Bose: Revolutionary
Extraordinaire (English) written by Dr. Shri Hitendra Patel and
Ajeya Krantikari- Rajguru (Hindi) by Shri Anil Verma respectively.
The Minister for Information & Broadcasting Shri Priya Ranjan
Dasmunsi released these books in the function here today. The first
copies of the books were presented to Shri Debasis Roy, Grand
Nephew of Khudiram Bose and Shri Satyasheel Rajguru Grand Nephew of
Rajguru. In his address he paid glowing tributes to the martyrs who
sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their motherland.
Releasing the books on two of the nations most illustrious heroes,
he also recalled our tradition of selfless sacrifice, valiant
struggle and boundless courage. He congratulated Publications
Division for paying homage to two of nations greatest martyrs in
the form of commendable books. The book Khudiram Bose:
Revolutionary Extraordinaire reasonably priced at Rs. 85 puts forth
several lesser known facets of the young revolutionary. Other than
his life and activities, the book also contains the judgments of
the High Court in Khudiram Boses case. Events of the early phase of
freedom struggle have been woven into a rich tapestry with support
of several rare pictures of Bose and his contemporaries in this
book, which is bound to stir patriotic fervour in the readers
hearts. Partition of Bengal in 1905 had triggered revolutionary
activities all over India, particularly in Bengal and compelled
youth to break away from the path of representations and requests
and took arms against the British rule. Khudiram Bose, perhaps the
youngest revolutionary in the history of Indias freedom movement,
was one such worthy son of Mother India. Born in 1889 at Habibpur
village near Midnapur, West Bengal, Khudiram became the
trail-blazer for the militant nationalist movement of India against
the imperialist powers. His bombing of a British officers carriage
sent tremors of fear among the British authority. On 11th August
1908 this eighteen year old revolutionary embraced the gallows with
a smile on his face and illuminated the way for hundreds of
revolutionaries. Ajeya Krantikari- Rajguru has been written keeping
in mind the fact that not much is written about him except for a
few scattered articles with repetitive material. To present
authentic version of the events associated with the martyr,
information is culled out painstakingly from various sources. The
price of this book is Rs. 135. Shivram Hari Rajguru was born in
Khed village (now named as Rajguru Nagar) near Pune in Maharashtra
on 24 August 1908. While in Varanasi to study Sanskrit and Hindu
scriptures, he came in contact with revolutionaries and became
active member of Hindustan Socialist Republican Army, coordinated
by Chandrashekhar Azad. He was known in the party under the
pseudonym of Raghunath. In the famous Lahore Conspiracy case, he
was executed on 23 March 1931 along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev.
With this supreme sacrifice he immortalized his name in the annals
of history. He gave his life, so that India may live. Author of
Khudiram Bose: Revolutionary Extraordinaire Dr. Hitendra Patel is a
reputed scholar of History associated with Rabindra Bharati
University, Kolkata. Shri Anil Verma, author of Ajeya Krantikari-
Rajguru is a judge and a prolific sports writer. He belongs to a
family of illustrious freedom-fighters. His grandfather Late Shri
Motilal Verma worked with Mahatma Gandhi as well as with
Chandrashekhar Azad. Smt. Sushma Singh, Secretary I&B Ministry
paid rich tributes to these worthy sons of Mother India in her
inaugural address and thanked Shri Debasis Roy and Shri Satyasheel
Rajguru for sparing time for the event. Welcoming the guests
present in the function, Smt. Veena Jain the Additional Director
General (In- charge) of Publications Division told that the
Division has brought out over a hundred books on freedom struggle.
Presently, the Division is bringing out a series of books on the
heroes of 1857 to mark the completion of 150 year of our first war
of independence. Notable among them are Nana Sahib, Tatya Tope,
Veer Kunwar Singh and Bahadur Shah Zafar. Begam Hazrat Mahal will
also hit the stands soon. Other recently published books on our
freedom struggle include: 1857-the Uprising, Delhi in 1857, and
books on Bhagat Singh in English and Hindi. The two books being
released today are further addition to our books dedicated to
Indias great martyr, she added. The Song & Drama Division,
Ministry of Information & broadcasting gave an inspiring
performance paying homage to great sons of Mother India. --- --- ,
