I hate to admit how long ago I started working at and then became the Director of the Dance Palace Camp. I continue because I really love this summer camp and believe it does make a difference in the lives of children as they grow up and become citizens of West Marin and the world. This has been confirmed by my many conversations with grown-up campers who have told me what a difference their camp experience made in their friendships, their appreciation of their environment and their discovery of personal creative gifts. Some have gone so far as to say that Dance Palace Camp saved their lives - we have a great track record! At camp, we provide a wide range of activities focusing on our environment, creativity and imagination with hands-on fun for everyone. With our low camper-to-staff ratio we are able to provide caring, personal attention to all campers and their families. Camp is not just about activities but also we encourage the development of friendships, kindness, cooperation, social skills and independence.

CAMP ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: Arts & Crafts • Ceramics • Kids’ Cuisine • Nature Observation and Crafts Studies • Outdoor Adventures • Sports & Games • Circus • Crazy Science • Yoga • Aikido • Explorers’ Club • Theater • World Music & Dance • Special Theme Days & Outings Practically every day is a Special Day! Campers show off their grandparent or photos on Grandparents Day which is similar to Pet Day but without leashes. Tropical Day includes the hula and tropical drinks on the lawn, Beach Day is at Hearts Desire, and Alice in Wonderland Day is where you can be anyone you want to be. We also have Library

Programs, Bear Valley trips and tons more.

Teens included! We have reinvigorated our CIT (Counselor in Training) program for 13 to 15- year-olds. Under the direction of Colleen Conley, our CITs will enjoy going out for pizza, having their own movie night,

advanced art projects, bowling, and a special kayak trip. Our CITs learn to become great role models for the younger campers. They lead the creation of the camp T-shirt, put together the newspaper and learn First Aid and CPR. Only 8 spaces are available. These CITs may have the option to graduate to Assistant Counselor next year. Tweeners too! New this year is a Tweeners group consisting of six 12-year-olds that have attended camp previously. They will join the CITs in most activities and will be on the fast track to be CITs next year.

Space is limited – Register now! The first session is June 15 to July 2 and Session 2; July 6 to 16. We don’t like to turn anyone away and scholarships are available. Questions? JULYTHE MOST HAPPY FELLA PRESENTED BY THE WEST MARIN PLAYERS West Marin Players is making a departure this year and producing Frank Loesser’s beloved musical of l956. Set in the Napa Valley around 1927, it is the story of a May-December romance where an older grape rancher knows what he wants and woos in letters a young waitress. This is not a smooth path to happily-ever-after but the barriers are surmounted. In the end it is a soaring love story with some sublime music and amusing secondary characters to suit everyone’s taste. Many players from our previous productions return to bring us a

wonderful song filled evening. Don’t miss this perennially sold out summer event. able to provide caring, personal attention to all campers and their families.Campers will be divided by age into three groups of 10-15 children who will participate in many different activities daily. In addition the camp features special theme days like Alice in Wonderland Day, Grandparent Day, Pet Day and field trips to Bear Valley and Heart’s Desire Beach.

COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM (for ages 13–15) provides leadership training, team building, problem solving, recreational activities, and supervised instruction in the skills necessary to be a good citizen, worker, counselor and babysitter. CITs learn to become great role models for the younger campers. They lead and manage the creation of the camp T-shirt, and the newspaper and learn First Aid and CPR. This year because of huge demand 12-year-olds can choose to move up and become Tweeners. They will be included in most of the activities of the CIT’s and become a part of this elite group. Next year they will be CITs.
