Sept Oct 2013 – F I N D O U T M O R E – www.penlight.org Having good working relationships with elected representatives in Olympia is important to Peninsula Light Company. PenLight has an ongoing dialogue with the people that represent its members interests in the state capital. Last month the board of directors and senior staff sat down with representatives from the 26th Legislative District to update them on legislative issues and the co-op’s activities. Representative Jan Angel and Senator Nathan Schlicher were able to attend the presentation and meeting to discuss the many successes and future challenges of PenLight. CEO Jafar Taghavi presented information about PenLight’s investment in Harvest Wind and the utility’s commitment to meet all requirements of the Renewable Portfolio Standard known as Initiative 937. The legislators heard about PenLight’s focus on improving reliability through investments in undergrounding, implementation of new technologies to detect and respond more efficiently to outages, and an aggressive vegetation management program. The legislators also heard about utility issues that could come before them in the legislature and how these proposals could affect PenLight. PenLight would like to express appreciation to the elected representatives in Olympia for their time to learn more about the utility and their support and work they do for PenLight members.
