PIM’s 43rd Annual Surplus Paper Drive for Teachers Paper Drop-Off - Friday, September 21st, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM

This annual project supplies paper to schools across the state. Every year we hear from the recipients how much they appreciate the generosity of our members. PIM Members literally save print and art programs for thousands of students every year!

This year Lindenmeyr Munroe is letting us use their beautiful new space. PIM members can sign up to donate their surplus paper. The date to drop paper is Friday, September 21st, from 8 am to 3 pm. Printers’ Disability Trust (PDT) TrusteesCocktail Party on October 18th, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM

Printers’ Disability Trust (PDT) Trustees will be holding their Board meeting concurring with the SGIA Expo in Las Vegas in October and would like to invites PIM association members who are attending this expo and would be potential PDT enrollees to a cocktail party on Thursday, October 18, from 5 - 7 PM (The expo closes at 5 PM for the day). They would still have time for dinner, shows, etc. after the “Meet and Greet” cocktail party.

Printing Industry Midwest Safety and Environmental Recognition Program

MINNEAPOLIS, MN- Printing Industry Midwest (PIM) members have options regarding Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) recognition or certification programs. The most comprehensive, locally available and on-site program is the PIM Great/Green Printer program. This is a recognition program that PIM members have been able to participate in since the late 1990’s. This program addresses all EHS issues facing printing companies. A brief description of the program and the participants in that program can be found at www.pimw.org under the Environment and Safety tab. Those Great Printers value the expertise, safety and environmental advice and hazards reduction provided with the Great Printer certification.

The Printing Industries of America (PIA) offers a Safety Shield designation to their Best Workplaces in the Americas award program. The Safety Shield program assesses some of the safety requirements printing companies need to address. Our condolences to Jim Belisle’s family and friends

James Richard Belisle, 83, passed away September 7th, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was a long time employee of the printing industry in West Des Moines, IA. He worked at Midwestern Paper before founding Valley Papers, a wholesale fine paper company. Jim was a charter member of the Association of Independent Printing Paper Merchants for many years. When not at work Jim enjoyed playing golf, fishing, watching golf, football and westerns. He was very devoted to his wife and family. Jim was a man of honor, integrity, faith, and family.

TWO NEW COMMUNITY SOLAR GARDENSBENEFIT LOW INCOME FAMILIESLargest Community Solar Garden in Twin Cities Installed in North Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 14, 2018 - Greenway Solar, a Minneapolis based Solar Developer, has joined forces with the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES) to install two community solar gardens; one at Impact, 4600 Lyndale Ave North and one in Dodge county. More than 150 low-income families will benefit from reduced electricity costs when both projects are completed by end of 2018. The first system installed on the roof of IMPACT, a a direct marketing company located in North Minneapolis, is now up and running and accepting applications for subscribers. System two will be ground mounted on unused farmland in Dodge County. The two systems together will generate one Megawatt of solar generation. Learn More.

NEW Color Management Fundamentals course to the iLearning Center! Free to all printer members!

Printing Industries of America recently launched a new Color Management Fundamentals course to the iLearning Center this week. Presented by Joe Marin, Vice President of Education and Training, the course is available to Printing Industries of America printer members as a free benefit of membership. Effective color management produces more reliable, consistent color across multiple devices and allows everyone in the process to see color more accurately. It reduces rework and communication issues and produces better color more efficiently. Understanding the basics of color management is the first step for color success. This course will cover the fundamentals of color management, the requirements for success, and how it works-all while giving students a solid foundation of terminology and workflow. Learn More.

TAGA Call for Papers

The Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA) is seeking the latest advances in scientific research and technical innovation from the graphic communications industry to be presented at its 2019 Annual Technical Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, March 17-20. Scientific Papers are based on emerging science, technology, and the application of all forms of graphic communications technology. Technical Innovation Papers cover topics where a broad technology perspective needs to be provided. Papers will be selected based on submitted abstracts of 500-1,500 words and may include figures. Papers accepted and presented at the TAGA 2019 Annual Technical Conference will be published in the 2019 TAGA Proceedings. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] by October 5, 2018.
