Purpose of Tent LinersTent liners provide a decorative option for your existing tent inventory in creating a memorable event. Liners are utilized for a variety of reasons:

■ Softening the look of a frame tent or structure by hiding the metal framework

■ Hiding blemishes or repairs in existing tent fabric

■ Hiding electrical or HVAC mechanics

■ Becoming a lighting tool to soften thematic lighting, expand color schemes and giving texture to lighting systems

Whatever the reason for using a liner – choosing the correct liner for your tent or event is vital to the success of creating the final look that creates that memory for a lifetime.

First Things First…What type of tent are you using? Pole Tent, Frame Tent, Keder Style, West Coast Style, Structure… All of which utilize different styles of liners for proper fit and ease of installation.

Pole TentA pole tent utilizes a bail ring and rigging harness attached around the center poles to raise the liner in place. The liner is attached to the curtain rope around the perimeter of the tent and to the rigging harness which tensions the liner as it is being raised. Once in the raised position, the liner is tied off along the outside of the tent, along the perimeter eve of the tent or more effectively, inside a center or side pole drape if also being installed.

Baytex Liners from Rainier Tent can be made to fit any manufacturer’s tent. It is important to specify on what type of tent your liner will be installed. Pole tent systems have different pitch angles sometimes requiring additional material to be used in designing the liner. Be sure to specify the manufacturer, style, double or single center pole, and size of the tent when ordering.

Frame TentFrame tent liners are installed in a similar fashion. A pulley system is installed at each peak of the “A” frame assemblies of a tent. A “hub ring” is integrated into this pulley system that is attached to the peak. The perimeter of the liner is attached to the side wall rope, a hard wire or tabs in the keder eave slots of the tent and the peak is hoisted up. These “hub rings” give a useful hanging point for additional décor while securing the liner to the frame. The excess rope can either be stowed outside the tent, along the perimeter eve of the tent or more effectively, inside a side pole drape if also being installed.

Baytex Liners from Rainier Tent can be made to fit any manufacturer’s tent. It is important to specify on what type of tent your liner will be installed. For example, some tent systems, such as Rainer’s own Full-Strength System, can use scissor truss support systems. This truss system hangs lower than cross beam systems, so the liner needs to be made to compensate for this. Be sure to specify the manufacturer, style, bay width and size of the tent when ordering.

Structure TentsStructure tents can use either a MOD liner with keder rails and pulley systems or an in-beam specific system that pulls the liner through the additional keder channels and Velcro along the ridge.

MOD LINERS

Modular Liners use similar hoisting systems as frame tent liners with one variation. Because these are constructed with larger structure tents in mind, the additional run of fabric from the peak to the perimeter of the structure needs more support or the fabric will droop excessively. To combat this drooping effect, rails are incorporated in the installation of the liner that connect the perimeter of the liner to a rail, then to another section of liner then to a rail at the peak of the tent. The wider a structure is, the more sections are installed. Instead of hoisting the fabric of the liner itself, installers are using the same pulley system to raise the peak and intermediate rails and then connecting the ends to the perimeter of the tent. Connecting to the perimeter can be either to the side wall line sewn into the top or to securing clips that connect into the keder channel.

IN-BEAM LINERS

In-beam style liners are installed just as a keder top is installed. These systems utilize a secondary keder track which is an integral part of their support beam system. These liners stretch from beam to beam, insert into the track and are pulled across the tent for a neat taught finish.

Smooth Sailing or Gathered Together?Your next decision is to determine the look you want to achieve with the ceiling inside the tent. Gathered liners have been the standard for many years. The liner is pleated and gives a “pillow” look to the ceiling. This style provides a softened look and appears to lower the ceiling height of the tent giving a more intimate feel inside the tent.

Additional styles have emerged in recent years due to growing demand. Smooth liners are used in all styles of tent but are primarily used in frame tents or structures to mask the framework visible inside the tent. These liners, like the gathered liners, can also hide the necessary inner workings of a tent, like electrical wiring, HVAC duct work and lighting fixtures.

Radiating EleganceA final style of liner is a “Radial” style. Like a gathered liner, this liner has a more pleated look to it that seem to emanate from the peak of the tent – be that where the framework peaks or where center poles are in place – down to the perimeter. The benefits of this liner give’s a more contemporary look to the ceiling of the tent than the more traditional liner designs.

Things to Remember■ For lighter color liners – lighting shines through the liner with a “glow”

effect. Thematic and colored lighting can be displayed with the source fixtures being behind the liner itself.

■ While the liners are porous, and air can pass through the liner – HVAC systems should not be placed behind the liner but rather incorporated into the liner system so that heat and air conditioning is most effective for the guests and does not create any moisture build up.

■ Liners are a cost-effective way to prolong the life of a tent. Repairs, patches, discolorations, pin holes are all things that can shorten the usable life of a tent top. These blemishes are all hidden from view with the use of a fitted tent liner.

Don’t Forget About■ Leg Drapes to finish off the install

■ Wall Drapes for added elegance
