State of play of 2011/2012 reporting onUrban Waste Water treatment Directive,UWWTD• Reporting by MS of the 2011
UWWTD data request took place from July 2011 – February 2012 using the new webtool
• ETC/ICM partner Cenia (Petra Ronen, Michal Sik) – support the reporting (helpdesk),
– do the QA of the data with MS,
• Finalized datasets for 19 MS (AT, BE, BG, CY, DK, EE, FI, GR, HU, RO, SK, MT, NL, LU, LT, PT, SI, SE, UK )
• Datasets of other 8 MS (CZ, LV, PL, ES,IE, FR, DE, IT) close to completion

• Complete production database to be submitted to DG ENV by 2 April for consultant to make the compliance report for publication in 2012.
• Use of data for OECD/Eurostat JQ pre-filling, for updating of WISE maps, for updating of EEA core set indicator 24 on UWWT, for updating the GIS reference layer on sensitive areas

Comparison of E-PRTR data with UWWTD data reporting
8
Comparison of E-PRTR data with UWWTD data reporting
• Comparison of discharges from urban wastewater treatment plants (UWWTPs) reported under UWWTD and E-PRTR
• Pollutants compared: – Total Nitrogen, – Total Phosphorus and – TOC (TOC in UWWTD was calculated from the COD)
• Only UWWTPs with more than 100.000 p.e. and emission discharges above threshold values are reported in E-PRTR and were compared
• The first comparison was produced by UBA Vienna in 2011 with the UWWTD database of 2007/2008
Event/ date: Working group D, 28 March 2012, BrusselsAuthor: Hana Prchalova, CENIA
9
Comparison of E-PRTR data with UWWTD data reporting
• The 2nd comparison is now done by ETC/ICM (Hana Prchalova) with the UWWTD database of 2009/2010 and E-PRTR data (reference year 2009, version 3.1)
• Request from EEA: to compare discharges from CZ, PL, IT and ES based on the same IDs
• No same IDs were found for these countries, the comparison was based on reported names and p.e. – only for ES and CZ
• Methodology – the same as in the 2011 comparison: interlinking of E-PRTR facilities reporting under activity 5.(f) with UWWTPs
Event/ date: Working group D, 28 March 2012, BrusselsAuthor: Hana Prchalova, CENIA
10
Results - Spain
The match is similar to the previous UWWTD reporting.

Results - CZ
The consistency of reporting by the Czech Republic has improved considerably due to corrected discharges under UWWTD reporting.
Total nitrogen and phosphorus discharges match very well, but TOC discharges in UWWTD are significantly smaller than E-PRTR values for three facilities.

State of play of 2011 reporting onBathing Water Directive, BWD
• Reporting by MS of the 2011 bathing season took place in Nov/Dec 2011
• ETC/ICM partner IWRS (Lidija Globevnik, Tina Kirn, Marko Kovacic, Katarina Zore, Dunja Zupan Vrenko) – supports the reporting, – is doing the QA of the data with MS, – is analysing the data, – is consulting compliance issues with DG
ENV, – is preparing the EEA Report on European
bathing water quality 2011 for launch in June 2012.
Event/ date: WG D meeting, 28 March 12, BrusselsAuthor: Anita Künitzer
14
First draft results of assessment for the 2011 bathing season
• A total of 16 MS are already assessed under the new Directive compared to 3 MS in 2010 (LU, MT, HU) and 2 MS in 2009 (LU, MT).
• A total of 8 MS are assessed under transitional rules (AT, BG, FR, IE, IT, NL, PL, SI) plus three non-EU countries (CH, HR, ME).
• Only three MS are assessed under the old Directive
(CZ, RO and UK).

Additional QAQC rules
• Checks of population served by the treatment vs.total national population
• Design capacity vs. load entering the WWTP• plausibility check for water reuse• Discharged vs.incoming load (BOD, COD, N and P)
• Sludge production
quotient must in all cases be <0 - otherwise the WTTP would generate pollution. The actual values allow checking of the treatment efficiency + outlier detection.
