Volunteer groups supply, prepare and serve 250-300 meals each night. Over 85,000 meals are provided each and every year! Group requirements Groups should be between 10 and 12 people. Youth aged 12 years and older are welcome to participate provided that at all times there is one adult to each youth between 12 and 14 years of age, and one adult to every 3 youth between 15-17 years of age. Note: children under the age of 12 will not be allowed to participate for safety reasons. Where and When Meals are served at The Mustard Seed at 10635 96 Street (corner of 96 Street and 106A Avenue). Parking is free and can be found around the building and on the street. Meals are served from 7-8pm Monday through Friday and 5-6pm on Saturdays. Although numbers vary depending on the time of month, The Mustard Seed usually serves between 250-300 people each night. Meal Groups are asked to arrive at least 2 hours before serving time, possibly earlier depending on arrangements made with the Food Services Coordinator. Before the meal Before the meal the group prepares and cooks the meal, washes down tables, rolls cutlery and helps with other tasks. Hairnets and gloves are required to be worn by everyone handling food. About 15 minutes prior to meal service, a staff member will do a short briefing with the group to provide instructions, assign responsibilities, outline the meal procedure and answer any questions. During the meal service The meal group serves dinner for one hour, cafeteria-style. There will be a staff member with the group. Roles during the meal include: serving food (one person per item), kitchen duties, running food/plates and cleaning dishes. After the meal After the meal is served, the group is welcome to serve themselves from the remaining leftovers. We do encourage groups to eat something prior to arrival in case there isn’t enough food. The staff member will then do a debriefing with the group about their experience and answer any questions. After the debrief, the group is responsible for cleaning the kitchen which will take about one hour. Supplying the meal

The Mustard Seed has a full commercial kitchen with giant pots, chaffing pans, a 12 burner stove and 3 ovens. All of the food needed for the evening meal is provided by the meal group. There are a few ways for meals groups to supply a meal. Option #1 Groups can request the Food Services Coordinator to plan the menu and order the food. The meal group provides a donation of $1,000; which helps to cover the cost of food, materials and overhead for the evening meal. The group comes to The Mustard Seed to prepare, serve and clean up after the evening meal. Option #2 Groups can plan a menu with the Food Services Coordinator and purchase the ingredients. The group is responsible for bringing the food needed to prepare the meal to The Mustard Seed. The meal group provides the plates, cutlery and napkins needed for the meal; as well as a $200 donation to cover overhead for the evening. Option #3 Groups can prepare the food offsite provided it is prepared in a Government Inspected Kitchen. Alberta Health regulations restrict The Mustard Seed from serving any home-cooked meals. group provides the plates, cutlery and napkins needed for the meal; as well as a $200 donation to cover overhead costs. Note: proof of inspection is required prior to the evening meal being served.

Donation receipting

The Mustard Seed can provide all meal groups with a tax receipt(s) for all monetary donations. Please include a list of donors, addresses and amount of donations. If the meal group chooses to purchase groceries, a tax receipt can be issued for the total cost of food and supplies (less the GST). Please bring: � All related receipts (must be the
