FORD UN. 7-8268 The Deale firemen's parade was veil attended last Thursday eve- ning by people from .far and :near. It was the largest crowd ever known to be in Deale at one time. Trophies were presented as fol- lows: Best appearing company, firs): place, Allentown Road; best appearing company, second place Laurel; best' appearing 750-GPM pumper, first place, Femdale best'appearing 750 GPM pumper second' place, Boulevard Heights best appearing 500 GPM pumper, first place, Riva; best appearing 500 GPM pumper, second place, North Beach; best appearing la- dies auxiliary, first place. Green Haven; best appearing ladies aux- iliary, second place, Jessup; best .appearing majorettes, first place, BJadensburg Lion Co.; best ap- pearing majorettes, second place,, Dee Jays, Mt. Rainer and Brent- I VO. Also company coming longest distance, Savage; best appearing ambulance, first place, Woodland Beach: best appearing ambulance second place, Clinton; judge. award, Greencapers Clown Club ladies auxiliary coming longest distance, Kent Island: compan with most men in uniform, Ava Ion. He is also a county fire commissioner. When the "Corch Fock" returned to Hamburg, her home base, from her first big 6,000-mile cru.se, her commandant; Commander Wolfgang Ehrhard, was full of praise for the white three-master. "We got our chsnce to test her during storm, rough sea and fog, and !ihe has turn- ed out just fine," he said. On her 52-day voyage to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Is- lands where she stayed in port for a week, the "Gorch Fock" had aboard, her permanent crew of 75, plus 156 trainees. The youths, all about 20 years old, 'returned full of eirthus- iasm. West Germany's fledgling navy has decided to give all its future of- ficers a-nd a good part of its non- commissioned officers a 3-months training aboard its only windjammer. Windjammer though she be, the ship has the most modern equipment It carries unshiffable heavy ballast to protect it from capsizing, and un bend as much as 90 degrees without taking in water.
