THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Trish Aamoth
It’s hard to know where to begin: 2019 LWML
Convention – $2,100,000 Mission Goal, New
Mission Grants, New Officers, 2019 District
Retreat, 2020 Joint Event, Zone Events,
Leadership Workshops. Serving the Lord with
Gladness obviously does NOT have an end date!
The women in purple just keep on going to the
next event, the next project!
I find it easier to group things together in
somewhat of a chronological order, so I’ll begin
with completed projects:
COMPLETED...

INITIAL PLANNING...
2020 FL-GA District
Convention in conjunction
with President’s Convocation, to be
called the 2020 EQUIP
CONFERENCE.
Save-the-Date: September 24-26, 2020,
Buena Vista Palace, Lake Buena Vista, Fla. –
Right across from Downtown Disney. Very first
planning session was held August 7; first full
planning committee meeting will be October 4.
This is going to be very different from other
LWML Events, but it affords us, the women of
the LCMS, an exciting opportunity to meet with
pastors, called workers, educators, and laity.
Donna Pyle is already booked to be the Bible
Study Leader; keynote speaker is not confirmed.
We will be involved in all the various committees
needed to put on an event for 1,500 people. More
information will be available in the Winter
Evangel!
I know that all of us are busy in our own
congregations, but it is my sincere hope that
more of us LWMLers will take advantage of zone
and district events, as well as events such as the
Regional LEAD Events Sat., Oct. 5 9:15 a.m.—3:00 p.m.
Christ the King Lutheran Church
4962 S Apopka Vineland Rd, Orlando
This is a multi-zone event including Greater Orlando, St.
Petersburg, Space Coast, Suncoast, Tampa and Winter
Haven zones. The event will include opening worship with communion, lunch, 2-3 LEAD sessions
and a closing devotion. There will be a 30-minute break-out for zones to conduct zone business if
they choose. Registration: $10. RSVP to [email protected] by September 30.
Fri., Nov. 15—Sat., Nov. 16
“Piggyback” Event with Region 2 Lay Leadership Summit
Abiding Savior Lutheran Church
Gainesville, FL
Zones encouraged to attend this event are: East Central Georgia, First Coast, North Central
Florida and Tallahassee. The Lay Leadership Summits are a wonderful opportunity for all lay
leaders to come together to share, learn and encourage each other. Our LEAD team will present at
least two workshops. The location may not be the most convenient for many, but it will be well
worth the effort to attend. There is no cost to attend. Information will be sent to all congregations
in Region 2.
LEAD events are open to ALL WOMEN of the FL-GA District LCMS. Officers and
leaders at the congregational and zone levels are especially encouraged to attend. Topics covered
in these sessions include: Mission Grants-application process and selection; engaging and
retaining volunteers; meeting management; how to use technology; and leadership styles.

FINANCIAL SECRETARY Linda Peters
Based on the Biblical account of the widow’s mite (Luke 21:1-4), the Mite Box is in-
tended for regular contributions of “mites” – offerings above and beyond the support
given to the congregation and the Synod. Mite Box contributions amount to millions of
dollars that fund district and national mission grants, and implement the LWML
program. At the LWML Convention in Mobile, the delegates voted to adopt a
$2.1 million mite goal. 25% of the mites we collect in the district will go toward this
goal. Our LWML FL-GA District mite goal is $180,000 and through July 31 our mites
total $96,904.70. W e have until June 30, 2020 to reach our goal so keep those m ites
coming.
At the LWML Convention, a new mite box was revealed. The new mite boxes are available
through the LWML Catalog, and/or online. They are free, but you will need to pay shipping.
I hope that most of you are planning
on attending the retreat in September.
We will have an offering on Sunday
morning that will go to our District
Mission Grants. If you cannot attend,
send your offering with someone who
is attending so that you will feel like
you are a part of the retreat.
See you in September!

The End of a Season
VP MISSION SERVICE Deaconess Liz Borth
I grew up in the Midwest, where changing of the
seasons is quite evident. Summer has always
been my favorite season because of relaxed
schedules and fireflies and swimming pools and
camping under the stars and the smell of fresh-
cut grass. Perhaps that is why Florida isn’t such a
bad place to live year round! Change of season,
in a different sense, is also the changes in life.
Most of us may remember each stage – puberty,
first love, marriage, motherhood, grandparent,
retirement – with a variety of emotions.
As a child, my love of the summer season and my
delight in celebrating my birthday mixed
together for a sad drink. An early September
birthday means the end of summer and the start
of school. No more carefree days; back to routine
and repetition.
As an adult in Florida, my early September
birthday doesn’t mean the end of summer as
much as an end to a season of life. Still, no
matter what the calendar says about age, spring,
summer, fall or winter, the season for learning
never ends. There is never an end to sharing.
Never an end to serving. Never an end to God’s
love for all.
Mission opportunities are never ending in the
LWML. Mission service with a Thrivent action
team serves those both near and far from home.
Mission service in your church could happen
with an anniversary celebration of Gospel
sharing over many years. Mission service to your
neighbor or friend is as easy as a cup of coffee
together.
We LWML ladies know that “mission” is simply
establishing relationships. We reach out with
Christ’s love, grace, mercy and forgiveness to
others…it is the mission Jesus designed for us.
The end of September is the end of the summer
season. It is a time to reestablish relationships
with LWML friends in the Florida
-Georgia District by going on
retreat to Lake Yale. Retreat will
be a time for mission service, as
we make sun dresses for young girls in tropical
climates, and as we bring our gifts from the heart
of school supplies for children heading back to
school. For every end, there is a new beginning,
and for every one of us who appreciate the new
beginning as an LWML missionary, that new
beginning is life with Jesus. See you in Leesburg!
For a complete list of Gifts from the Heart
donation items and Servant Event
materials needed, see page 18.
FREE SOCKS FOR CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS! Trinity Lutheran in Savannah, GA has been
designated a distribution site for free socks
from Bombas. Trinity has graciously allotted
5,000 pair to LWML! Lonna McEwen will
bring them to the District Retreat in
September for distribution. All socks are black.
Sizes are not known at this time, probably a
mixture of sizes.
To receive some of these socks for your church or community, please email Lonna the following information:
Name of person designated to pick up socks at retreat
Name of the charitable organization where the socks will go
As the LWML FL-GA District will be taking photos during the proceedings and activities, your registration for this event gives the LWML permission to use your image and comments in educational, informational, and promotional materials in a variety of media, including webcast and other electronic media.
