- 1. In What ways does your media product use, develop
orchallenge forms and conventions of real media products? My
magazine SPIRIT follows the conventions of a real music magazine
asit gives the reader the latest information on the specific genre
in this caserock/indie. Also the magazine offers the reviews and
interviews which istypical of an NME or Keerang magazine. I have
used photography skillsthat follow the conventions of a music
magazine as the models I haveused pose in a interesting and
appealing manner.SPIRIT challenges the conventions of rock and
indie magazines that arepopular today. Keerang and NME use typical
colours that relate to therock genera such as red, black and white.
The way I have challenged theconventions is by using an old black
and white feel to my magazine thatyou may not see on a typical
rock/indie genre. I have still kept the redand black colour scheme
to add contrast to the magazine.
2. How does your media product represent particular
socialgroups? My magazine represents a teenage social group as it
has interestinginterviews and photos that a teenage audience would
enjoy reading. Therock genre of my magazine makes it appealing to
the rock audience as itwas intended and designed for people that
like rock music, I feel that Ihave achieved this by the colours and
language that I have used.Click icon for audio 3. What kind of
media institution might distribute your mediaproduct and why?Bauer
media group would be a great option to distribute my magazine
asBauer has a huge reputation and a high standard that people
expectwhen they buy a music magazine. Customers trust Bauer with
thecontent that they produce and have a wide audience that read
theirmagazines.Bauer media produces similar magazines to mine such
as Keerang andQ, I hope that as my magazine is similar to Keerang
the audience wouldbe interested in buying the magazine as it
follows the same conventionsas Keerang. Even though my magazine
might be similar to some musicmagazine it still has its own house
style that will set it apart from theother music magazines on the
market. 4. Who would be the audience for your media product?I have
aimed my magazine at a teenage rock audience as they are
themajority that buy music magazines, plus the audience has more
interestand enthusiasm than other age ranges. Having a teenage
audience givesme an advantage when it comes to adding content and
designs, this isbecause I fit into my target audience. Magazines
such as Keerang have asimilar target audience to me so I can relate
my and design my magazinearound NME and Keerang. Many teenagers buy
magazines to skimthrough the content, they do not want to read a
lengthy article that willtake them an entire week to read, I have
added a ratio between text andpictures to keep the reader
interested. 5. How did you attract/address your audience?I
addressed my audience by first researching the target audience
andseeing what they liked and disliked, this helped me improve my
ideas andmake them more suited for the audience. As I have picked a
teenageaudience I needed colours and pictures that relate to them
and to keepthem interested. For my main image on the front cover I
have used propsand clothes that a teenage audience would use and
wear, for example theguitar and modern clothing.Using language that
a my target audience would use themselves givesthe magazine a more
personal feel and let the audience relate to themagazine more. I
have included modern fonts that you often see musicmagazines in the
shops today. 6. What have you learnt about technology from the
processof constructing this product? 7. Looking back at your
preliminary task what do you feelyou have learnt in the progression
from it to the fullproduct? There has been a lot of progress since I
first started making my schoolmagazine, I didnt really think about
the pictures I used in enough detailsuch as the props and
background the image. The fonts were basic andmade the magazine and
boring. I have since learnt that thinking aboutthe main image is
more important than I first thought, I needed to usemore than one
font and have a specific house style such as the red andblack I
used through out my magazine. My Photoshop skills have improved over
the last weeks and enabled meto think of new ideas to implement in
my music magazine. I used to thinkI couldnt produce a magazine that
looked good enough but now becauseof the skills I have learnt I now
can. Click icon for audio
