A media institution is a company that is accountable for numerous companies in various mass media; public or privately owned that produces and/or distributes media products. So for instance, television, radio, magazines, the internet etc. There are hundreds of media institutions.

For our film opening we have chosen to go with the media distribution of film 4. This is because it is a popular film channel which means it can have a powerful influence on peoples interests and attitudes about our film. We also however chose this institution because our opening isn't glamorous enough to be produced by institutions such as ‘Warner Bros’ or ‘the Walt Disney company’. The Walt Disney company is the biggest media conglomerate as so therefore wouldn’t be interested in such a small budgeted film as we didn’t have the funds to buy props and costumes to make it that effective.

Film 4 also doesn’t specify to one film genre, it produces numerous different films with multiple film genres which means our thriller film could be produced by this institution, this is another reason we didn’t agree on institutions such as the Walt Disney company as a thriller film wouldn’t fit the right criteria to make it into a Disney film.

Having our film produced by film 4 institution would almost guarantee success as it is a commonly watched and high rated film channel.
