Evaluation Question 3

Page 2: Evaluation Question 3

I decided to create my survey of 5 questions I then distributed it to a variety of different people. I gave everyone a link to my music video and ancillary texts, this enabled them to give the best feedback possible. The questions I devised were designed in a way as to hold the audiences attention, for example, I didn’t use the standard questionnaire format, this being circle, and tick boxes, whereas in my survey, I used a variety of tick boxes, comment boxes, and multiple choice options, giving the audience the option to complete a comment box, this gave complete freedom of speech to the audience, this in turn gave me a more varied response overall.

My ResponsesMost of my feedback came for females rather than males. As personally, I feel females would be more likely to watch my music video more than males. With this in mind the female audience are likely to be draw to this genre and style primarily because it is about an actress perusing and eventually achieving her dream. However, as I have used a female actress, more men could potentially be attracted to watch the music video, as it is upbeat, glamorous and well presented.

My Responses

My music video was aimed at around 17-25 year olds, so it was very important that I asked my target audience for feedback on my products

EvaluationHaving read the feedback that I received on surveymonkey.com, I have established that my final promotional package is a success, and is a professional piece of work which I believe I could sell as a real product. Due to my target audience being quite a wide age range, I sent my surveys to my social networking sites, as that is also the age group that I have as friends. I decided to direct message my target audience with my video and ancillary text, to obtain feedback. There was one older selection within my feedback but the majority were all the same age as me; 18-25 years of age. After evaluating my feedback, it appears everyone that took part in my survey said my music video looked very professional, which I am very please with.Question 3, the feedback shows some confusion of the genres, however pop and dance genres are very similar. I received one suggesting it would be dance genre, however, I did not include any dance genre conventions in the video, such as performance or a dance routine. As my music video was filmed at night it could potentially suggest my video has indie conventions within. I felt that this therefore made me think about what people think makes each genre their genre, and what makes each genre individual to one another. From my feedback, I can see that the effectiveness of all my products together, have a ‘strong theme that runs throughout’ and they are all professional. I am very happy with all these comments as all that were made were very positive.

Continued..I questioned my audience about what they thought I could improve on in my music video. Although there isn't time to make actual adjustments to the video, I felt it was necessary to include this type of question, so that I could find out what people would change about it. Over all a lot of people said they wouldn't change anything, however I did get some individual responses that helped me. One said “possibly being a bit picky, but sometimes at the start of the song the words don't match with the actresses mouth.” Looking back at my product now, I can see one place at the start, that potentially the actress got her words mixed up, with hindsight, I could have re filmed that section, and re edited it, this would now prove impossible as the completion time is short, and the availability certain equipment, settings, and of my actress is extremely limited. My feedback shows that not one person said that they wouldn’t watch my music video again, which is a positive sign, and enables me to know that people approved/enjoyed the video that I produced. I am very pleased with this outcome, and I feel very confident about my final piece. All but one person in my survey said they wouldn`t buy the music video on iTunes. This doesn’t worry me that much as my music video, and ancillary text, may not be to everyone`s taste, for example, everyone has different expectations, opinions, needs and styles. As I chose to produce an abstract/ performance video, my music video didn’t have a narrative, however my thoughts were to produce a music video of the artist before she became successful, and then towards the end, she is on stage performing, which links to the lyrics ‘Glow.’ However, I didn't want to focus on that too much, as I felt the most successful music videos are all about their performance and lip syncing. However I do believe that this type of video is thought provoking, and could influence some audiences into continuing to pursue their own dreams and to never give up, for example they may one day “make it to the top” in any vocation not just pop music.
