How effective is the combination of you main product with ancillary texts?

Recurring Motifs

I have several recurring motifs within my promotional package.

- The hearts on my ancillary products are an example of a recurring motif because they appear constantly when ever the name of the artist is written or when the name of the album/song is written as well. But I didn’t put the hearts in the writing at the beginning of the music video as I wanted to make it look like actual handwriting. But I don’t think this will affect the link between the main product and my ancillary products because the heart signifies love and in the music video that is represented all the way through in the storyline, with close ups, and also in the lyrics of the song.

- Another recurring motif is the bench in my music video. This is one of the main locations in the music video and it connects to the ancillary products because I took some pictures of the bench without anyone sitting on it and put the best one in my digipak. People who have already watched the music video will connect them both together very easily because they will straight away recognise the bench from the music video or from the digipak.

Brand Style

I have created a brand style and identity which my target audience and my artists fan base can recognise and identify with very easily.

-For example, the hearts used to replace the o’s in the name of the album and in the name of the artist are very recognisable as you don’t see it that often and it also means it can be used over and over again on any other albums or singles my the artist may produce in the future, helping his brand identity even further.

-Also the hazy effect on my images across the ancillary products can be very identifiable and again you may not see that as often as you would think (especially on print products), which will make it stand out even more when on display in a shop like HMV. This combines with the music video as I have certain scenes in it where I have used sun flares creating a hazy effect across the screen. This will therefore create a brand identity among the fans.

Linked Visually and Thematically

I feel that my music video is liked visually and thematically.

-This is because all the brand identity and recurring motifs are included in the imagery and editing effects, (e.g. hazy effect).

-I also feel it is thematically linked because there is an obvious theme of love. For example the repeated hugging photos across all the products, the hearts, and the hazy effect, which is a very generic convention of the love or romance genre.

Over all

Over all I feel my promotional package is coherent and effective because my visuals link up across all the products and also the theme of love and romance is very clear allowing the audience to automatically link them as one promotional package.
