Digipack and magazine advert

Page 3: Evaluation Question 2

Is it effective in fulfilling its purpose?

O The purpose of my digipack and magazine cover was to promote my artist. I think that I have managed to achieve this by having the same location setting in both my digipack and magazine advert but making each image different.

O As you can see, I have used different actors in my film than my digipack and magazine advert:

This is because I didn’t want to take away from a real relationship in my film and I feel that if I would of used my artist, it wouldn’t have looked as authentic.O I wanted to promote my artist on just my magazine and

digipack as I didn’t want to give anything away about the story by using images that were similar to the frames in my music video.

Page 4: Evaluation Question 2

Does it fit the genre?O I personally feel that it may suggest more of an indie/folk genre

however saying this, there are elements of it that stick out as the genre of pop. For example:

• Here are 3 pop CD covers which feature the artist(s) in outdoor locations. I chose to feature my artist in an outdoor location because I wanted it to still somehow resemble my video.

• On my magazine advert, my artist is looking up into the sun which connotes him looking up into heaven. This works well with the suicide scene in my music video where he looks up into the light, again connoting looking up into heaven.

Could you find this in the real world?

Here is Leona Lewis’s album ‘Bleeding Love’. Although it is slightly unclear, the location on this CD cover is at the beach.

This is a screenshot taken from the music video of ‘Bleeding Love’. As you can see here, it is not the same location as on the CD cover and it also uses other actors and not just the artist herself.

This is slightly similar to my idea as my artist isn’t featured in my music video. I have also used a different location on my digipack and poster than to what I have used on my video.

I think that my digipack and magazine cover can be found in the real world as I have shown from this one here.

Page 6: Evaluation Question 2

Is it appropriate for my target audience.

O My target audience is teenagers 15+ as the storyline is a hard hitting yet real subject. Mainly, it is teenage girls.

O I think that I have made it appropriate for my target audience through my use of location and the colours that I have used.

O Although I haven’t done a stereotypical pink girls colour, I have made the digipack and magazine advert more vibrant which to me suggests something that would attract girls rather than boys and stereotypically, boys go for the darker, more ‘manly’ like colours such as camo greens, navy’s and grey’s.

Here is a CD cover from the cure. As you can see, the background colours are quite dull grey’s and the artist is wearing black. This to me shows a CD cover that would appeal more to boys because of the colours used and the title ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ which suggest one of the stereotypical sex traits of boys that they are strong and tough unlike girls who are weak.

What would I change?O If I was to do my digipack again, I would use the actors from my film in it.

Although I have reasons behind why I didn’t use them, I think that the entire pack would of made more sense as a whole.

• Focusing on just my poster and my digipack alone, I would of used a bigger variety of locations and tried to incorporate some of the locations that I used in my film.

• However, I like the connotation of my artist looking up into the sky in conjunction with the actor from the film looking up into the light.

• With regards to my video, digipack and magazine advert as a whole, I believe that all of them worked well together.

• However, to make it clearer to the audience that they came as a pack, I would consider using the locations that I used in my film, the actors in my film and possibly featuring my artist in the music video.
