How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Colours UsedThe Colours used in my magazine represent a social group who love music. My magazine is all about the music so I wanted to try and adopt that in the colour scheme and that is why I have chosen to use bold colours such as black, white and red as they don’t “blind” the reader but are noticeable to catch there attention. The colour red is very bold and jumps out to the reader and attracts them. It also fits with the genre of Rock.

Images

The images represent the Indie/Rock social group as I have created an Indie/Rock look for it. With getting images of a girl dressing in Indie/Rock clothes (layers, necklaces and skinny jeans were what I found artists wore from that genre) and had her stand next to a background that doesn’t draw too much attention away from her but adds to the Indie/Rock effect. She also looks very individual which also makes her stand out

The lighting for both helped represent the Indie/Rock as it was subtle, not too dark but not too light

The bands I have chosen for my magazine are all Indie/Rock bands which represents the social group as that is the music they listen too.

I have used pictures of George Craig and Chris Martin performing because that is what the magazine I have created is all about; the music, so seeing images of them onstage should help convey that.

I have brought guitars into it for these images as that is one of the things people associate with Indie/Rock. Again the two men are wearing layers to suggest the genre of there music before anyone hears them play.

Men or Women?

Because I have chosen the genre of Indie/Rock and most of the existing magazines with the same genre are bought mainly for males I too will be leaning more toward men than women. Even though I have a female on the front cover which could draw in females the bands featured in the magazine could draw in the male population.

Mise-En-SceneThe Mise-En-Scene reflects the genre of Indie/Rock as they all have a similar look that everything is relaxed and subtle. None of the backgrounds take the attention of the people in that images.
