In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? In Country Weekly the main image is a close up or medium close up shot of the artist. My front cover uses a medium long shot where we can see the whole body of the artist, also it shows that the artist is the same as any other singer, she is wearing a simple costume which we can see where as in a close up we can’t see any of the costume except the makeup and jewellery. Also in my front cover the background is white which follows the convention as most country magazines either have a plain background therefore my magazine front cover follows the convention of the setting. I chose to change the camera shot and follow the setting convention because I wanted my front cover to stand out but not be completely different to any other country music magazine. I chose to do this because the plain background made the artist and sell-lines the main focus to the readers and if my magazine challenged the conventions of country magazines then the readers may not read or buy my music magazine. With the name of the magazine I chose a similar style as Maverick where the artist’s head covers the middle of the name, and followed the positioning of the name; at the top of the magazine; as to stand out and also leave space for the two main sell- lines which challenges the use of sell-lines on country music magazines and most only have their main sell-line on the front cover. With my contents page the main convention that I followed was the use of an image that was related to the front cover and also a similar layout, however in my contents page I chose to use three images to show three different articles that were positioned on the right side of the page leaving the left side for the contents of the magazine meaning that I followed the convention. With the colours for the writing on the contents page I followed the use of brown and red but developed them slightly and used brown as the writing for the articles and adapted the red to for a reddish orange and used it for the title

Page 1: Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In Country Weekly the main image is a close up or medium close up shot of the artist. My front cover uses a medium long shot where we can see the whole body of the artist, also it shows that the artist is the same as any other singer, she is wearing a simple costume which we can see where as in a close up we can’t see any of the costume except the makeup and jewellery. Also in my front cover the background is white which follows the convention as most country magazines either have a plain background therefore my magazine front cover follows the convention of the setting. I chose to change the camera shot and follow the setting convention because I wanted my front

cover to stand out but not be completely different to any other country music magazine. I chose to do this because the plain background made the artist and sell-lines the main focus to the readers and if my magazine challenged the conventions of country magazines then the readers may not read or buy my music magazine. With the name of the magazine I chose a similar style as Maverick where the artist’s head covers the middle of the name, and followed the positioning of the name; at the top of the magazine; as to stand out and also leave space for the two main sell-lines which challenges the use of sell-lines on country music magazines and most only have their main sell-line on the front cover.

With my contents page the main convention that I followed was the use of an image that was related to the front cover and also a similar layout, however in my contents page I chose to use three images to show three different articles that were positioned on the right side of the page leaving the left side for the contents of the magazine meaning that I followed the convention. With the colours for the writing on the contents page I followed the use of brown and red but developed them slightly and used brown as the writing for the articles and adapted the red to for a reddish orange and used it for the title of the contents page; Features; this is the same as most country magazine contents pages and therefore I used it to show the connection in genre of music. I change the positioning of the main article name to under the image which challenges the

positioning of the main article name on the Maverick contents page, this is because I used three images to represent three articles and positioned the article names and page next to or under them. I believe this makes my contents page unique within the country music magazine industry and also makes it stand out more with the readers.

Page 2: Evaluation Question 1

With the double page spread I used three images and did an interview, this is different from the double page spread on the right as it is an article about Maddie and Tae. In both we can see the use of an image on the right side of the page as well as an image on the left page, showing that I followed the amount of images within a double page spread. However I used an Interview as my double page spread meaning that the text is challenging the other double page spread, as it is questions, but the main language used follows what a country

artist would say. Also in both double page spreads the article name covers part of the image on the first page meaning that I followed the convention that is the positioning of the article name. Also I used green and orange for the text colour which challenges the traditional black that most magazines use because the magazine main aim is to be different and stand out. Also the use of orange and green means that the magazine follows the colour scheme of simple earthy colours.
