of real media products?

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

Opening shot of my music video and Ed Sheeran – The A Team. Sheeran’s video establishes the main star of the video, who the narrative revolves around, where as mine establishes the performer. From neither mine nor Ed Sheeran’s videos can you initially tell the genre through mise-en-scene, from the establishing shot. Sheeran’s provides a hint of Indie with the use of black and white and an unusual opening where as my video gives no initial hint.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

The image from my video starts to highlight themes I have created, from the bare trees, sunshine and Bianca’s coat you can begin to see the autumnal theme as well as the her thoughtful acting and the letter it leads well into the next shot of a flashback, expressing the thoughts and once friendship. In comparison the shot Ed Sheeran’s video also begins to highlight themes, you begin to see the state at which the girl is in, homeless and poor and leaves you wondering where the video is heading.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

I have attempted to create and interesting shot from my performance using the rule of thirds. Thinking back I think I should have tried a black and white filter, to soften the image and reflect my genre better. However I have started to reflect my genre in the performance by choosing to have little of it. The shot from Ed Sheeran’s video the A Team is one of the few that Sheeran appears in, there isn’t any performance through-out this video and looking at other music video’s from not only Ed Sheeran but the likes of Ben Howard and Jason Mraz, performance isn’t always key or featured in their videos, but a disjunctive video is.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

Here are some nice framing shots from my video and Taylor Swifts – You Belong With Me. In both cases you see the ‘other’ central character framed creatively. In my video I’ve used the chain of the swings to frame Jo as she walks away, while in Taylor Swifts video her love interest is framed using the window.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

The use of rule of thirds and depth of field are used creatively in both my video and Taylor Swift’s. The use of sun glare in the shot from my video, makes the shot more interesting and creative, and also slightly highlights the autumnal theme. Where as in Swfit’s video depth of field is used to continue the narrative and show the differences between the two characters.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

Shallow depths of field and rule of thirds have been used again in both these shots. Both shots amplify how the record company would want their artist to be portrayed. In my video, the camera angle is used to demonstrate the artists music talent, in comparison to this, Taylor Swift is appearing to be singing into her mirror whereing dress down clothes making her seem ordinary and relatable to her audience but at the same time extra ordinary because she is Taylor Swift.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

These shots demonstrate conventional uses of camera angles and lighting. Most videos use rule of thirds and variety of different shot distances, angles and depth of field, especially in the performance. The shot from my video shows a mid-close up of my performer being able to play the guitar while the shot from Pink – Perfect show’s her looking sad and singing, making the audience feel sad and relate to the song. Both of these are often used in music video’s to make the artist appear both ordinary and extraordinary. Extraordinary by their talent, abilities and the fact their famous and able to produce a great song and video but ordinary in the sense they’re relatable and made to look as if they’re just like you and me.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

Between these two shots, I personally think mine aplifies the genre more than the still from Pink – Perfect. Pink’s music is mostly Pop Rock and I think Perfect as a song, fits into that genre, but this particular shot doesn’t. However it does fit the rest of the video, which again I don’t think particular fits the genre as such, but matches the song and the lyrics perfectly. However both shots I think show the character for who they really are, and amplify the narrative well.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

These shots from my video and Pink – Perfect are similar and almost link the style of the videos together. The shot from my video shows the two character’s fading away, ending the story and ending their friendhship, where as the shot from Pink’s starts the narrative, using an over the shoulder shot of the main character looking to a flashback of her past self.
