3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? http://www.ipcmedia.com / IPC- IPC may be an appropriate publisher for a new music magazine because they are established and well known publishers so if they were to release a new music magazine, it will be taken seriously and be able to compete will existing mainstream pop magazines because it has been published by IPC. Also, IPC doesn’t have any other music magazines except NME which wouldn’t compete with my music magazine because NME focuses on indie rock music and my music magazine focuses on mainstream.

Bauer- Bauer could be another publisher for my music magazine because the only music magazine they publish now is Kerrang which is nothing like my music magazine. Therefore, they could publish my music magazine because they wouldn’t have direct competition with Kerrang.

Both publishers have experience with music magazines so they would know what basic features should be included in music magazine to make the target audience appeal to the magazine. However, I think NME would be a better choice they have had good success with NME and the more experience you have, the better a music magazine can be marketed and distributed.

4. Who would the audience be for your media product?

My target audience for my foundation portfolio task are young teenagers around 15-20. I have tried to make my music magazine appealing to this age group and also have tried to make it appealing to both genders. Also, my target audience are young adults so I have made sure that my article is not too formal so

Typically, a mainstreamer pop listener will be found reading existing magazines such as ‘Smash Hits’ and ‘Billboard’ to catch up on the most recent releases and to find out who’s number 1 this week. Their iPod would consist of very well known and current artists such as ‘Rihanna’ and ‘The Wanted’. My target audience for my preliminary task was a lot more generalised because it was aimed at both male and female students aged 16-18. However, after producing my preliminary task magazine, it made me realise that in this magazine I need to carry out more research on my target audience and what they want to have included in amusic magazine. I did this to make sure everything I included in the music magazine was relevant to my target audience.
