MASTER THESIS THESIS TITLE Evaluation of Crack Width Formulas for Reinforced Concrete Slabs DATE 15.06.2020 NUMBER OF PAGES 60/25 AUTHOR(S) Jon Haugvaldstad Vik SUPERVISOR(S) Emrah Erduran IN COLLABORATION WITH Rambøll CONTACT PERSON - SUMMARY Proper design of concrete structures is today important to achieve a cost-effective and sustainable construction. One of the limits which needs to be meet during the design are the allowable crack width diameter. In total there are 30 crack width formulas which are being presented in this thesis. Each formula has been used to calculate crack widths for a given reinforced concrete slab. It has been conducted crack width calculations for several different setups for the reinforced concrete slabs. Where four categories for discussion have been looked further into. This has provided a basis for more discussion around what consequences certain design choices have on the crack widths. The results show that there are many aspects which needs to be taken into consideration to achieve a durable reinforced concrete structure. 3 KEYWORDS Crack Width Calculations Reinforced Concrete Slab Axial Tension ACCESSIBILITY Open Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering and Building Technology Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology
