Looking back at your Preliminary task, what have you learnt in the

progression from that to the final product?

Page 2: Evaluation activity 7

Comparing my preliminary task with my final production, overall I believe that I did extremely well on my final production comparing to my preliminary task this is simply because I gained more knowledge and terminology over the months after we filmed our preliminary task and the different techniques we could use for our final production to make our film look aesthetically pleasing to the audience. However in terms of camerawork based on our preliminary task we used quite a small amount of different types of shots this is mainly because this was our first ever time filming so we really didn’t have the knowledge. The different type of shots we used was a long shot, close up, and over the shoulder shot. These were the only shots we used for our preliminary task because as a group we believed these were the best type of shots for us to show he audience what we were trying to portray. Therefore in my final production I added different shots like medium shot, low angle shot and establishing shot these shots came in handy because they showed the audience different emotions the characters were trying to emphasise.

With our camerawork we made sure we planned every shot before hand so we could easily and run through while filming and we can also get a better understanding of shots whilst recording to and how it would benefit our particular video. We mad sure everything was correct and everything was stable until we began because we wouldn’t want to rush things otherwise our work will get ruined. However there was some space that were still remaining and was getting frustrating so therefore we had to keep on recording until we improved and we can get that perfect shot.To be honest in our preliminary task there were barely any movement which made it pretty boring for the audience so we decided to step things up and bring in more movement for our final production so it could be more entertaining for everyone. For example we put in a tracking shot to make it more realistic and watchable.

As a group we were talking to the editor on what type of editing techniques we could use for our final production because comparing our preliminary task with our final production we used better ways of editing compared to our preliminary task, the reason for this is because we gained more knowledge of how to improve our work therefore making the audience more interested with our work. In our final production we mad sure our lighting effect was much better so it could link with the genre and the audience then can interpret what emotion we are trying to portray for example we used a darker lighting for our final production to imply that we are doing a horror film and in our preliminary task our lighting was much more brighter to show two people having a normal conversation. I believe the editing for our final production was much more better and entertaining because we used more complex editing techniques for example fast pace editing, shot reverse shot, fade and many more. These types of editing made our production more interesting and more into the genre to make the audience feel the vibe.

Lighting wise as you can see from the pictures on the right the first picture is more brighter to indicate everything is fine and revising with each other as normal human beings however on the second picture it shows that the lighting is much more darker compared to the first one this is because its trying to imply that somethings wrong or something bad is going to happen its like foreshadowing the audience and giving them a hint on what's going to happen next.Costume was matching with our genre because our antagonist was wearing dark black clothes to show that its horrifying and scary as black is the colour to show darkness and fear and for our protagonist they were wearing smart wear just to show that they are in school revising and not in a library or anything.Make-up was matching with the genre because the antagonist was supposed to look scary and frightening to match and to scare the audience so I believe that we did a goo job on the makeup because it did look horrifying overall.

Mise-En-Scene

The match on action that we used for our preliminary task was good but wasn’t perfect this is because when editing it was difficult to record one shot to another view that matches the first shots reaction. This happened when I was acting in my preliminary task and when I tried opening the door it was hard to construct when I was opening the door to almost opening the door. This gave the editor more time to work on it as they had to build everything in one piece to make it more realistic for the audience. On the other hand for our final production we decided to improve on this id we had help from our teacher on how to improve our editors editing skill, with our teachers advice we enhanced our film from the same exact scene when opening the door

In conclusion I believe that not only me but as a group we did very well as we all went through different experiences and work that we haven’t came across and it was something new to all of us which also means we all learned something new as a group and I believe that our production was very entertaining as we did get very god reviews from people and they really enjoyed it because they straight away new it was going to be horror because of the way we constructed it which is good feedback for us because that's what we wanted from the audience mostly and overall we as a group believed we did every well as we had strong communicating and very good teamwork.
