Definition

Evaluation is a process defined as a systematic process of determining the extent to which educational objectives are achieved by pupil.

Need for curriculum evaluation1) It helps to clarify objectives and also

to know the extent of objective

2) Diagnosis difficulty in curriculum process i.e. with the individual student or class teacher as well as for teaching-learning activities achieved.

Formative evaluation• It is concerned with the

development of new programme. It is used in the early stages of curriculum development. when new methods and materials are being tried out it helps to determine the effectiveness of new methods &procedures ,& areas where revision is needed. It is also known as diagnostic evaluation because it measures the progress made by the student during the studies. 7

SUMMATIVE EVALUATION

It is done after the planned curriculum is implemented fully and to determine the degree to which curriculum is effective in meeting the instructional objective . Summative evaluation is concerned with the analysis of an established programme.

curriculum programme.

• To select most appropriate curriculum.

• It is done at the end of course to see if students achieved the course objective.

• It is done as a formal list covering the content of the course.

ROLE OF TEACHER:

The teacher must be acknowledged in curriculum planning ,he should be allowed freedom in planning experience for pupils.

Teachers must be given adequate opportunities to carry instructional experimentation in the classroom setting so that they can be active in selection of learning materials.

Students are the client for whom the curriculum is developed, they are most affected persons by the curriculum. Hence there is need to actively involve them in development and implementation as well.
