COMPARISON WITH REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS

Here are my 9 key framesMonday, 16 April 12

Page 4: Evaluation

• This key frame of my final product that shows the font i used in the credits. I looked at many opening credits to help me make sure i used a suitable font. Also on this page is a word document produced that shows some of the research i have done.

KEY FRAME 1

Page 5: Evaluation

• This key frame of my final product that shows some of the effects i used in the final product. I saw this effect in a opening sequence and i thought it looked very good and it would sute my opening sequence very well. I had to use Adobe after effects to create the effect. Also there is a screen shot of me creating the the “Earth Zoom” effect.

KEY FRAME 3

Action/Drama : This key frame shows some of the action/drama i used in Brookside Boarding School, this is the stabbing scene, where Sam gets stabbed from behind. This is good drama for Brookside Boarding School.

KEY FRAME 4

Location: For Brookside Boarding School we wanted the location to be at a boarding school and in a forest/woods. We found a forest to use, it was perfect for what we wanted, just what we where thinking of!

KEY FRAME 5

Narrative: I had a voice over in the first 20 seconds of the opening sequence, and on the last 10 seconds of the sequence there is talking from the actors/actress

KEY FRAME 6

Props: we didn't need many props, the main prop we needed was a knife, i found it hard get get hold of a toy knife, and the risk was, loads of the toy knife’s look very realistic, so i didn't feel committable with the actor/actress using a very realistic looking knife, in the clip you only see the knife for a split second, so i decided we

would use a pen, Because of how quick the scene is i think using a pen as a knife was fine!

KEY FRAME 7

Costume: For Brookside Boarding School we wanted all the characters to be dressed casually, so we chose what they would where and got them to where it each day we where filming.

KEY FRAME 8

Framing Of Characters: For this shot we wanted to have the characters looking sad and depressed, the best camera angle we found for this has to look down at them slightly, and the characters to be sitting down, this

gives a slightly intimidating effect.

KEY FRAME 9

Construction Of Characters: We made a target audience mood board, and we showed it to people out age and they changed bits of clothing to what they would where, this is how we created the characters.

HOW DID I FIND THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

• I enjoyed the Editing aspect the most out of the whole project, I even used he program after effects, i have never used it before and i used it to create an “earth zoom” for our opening credits. i really enjoyed the whole editing process.

I found the health and safety and planning was the hardest work, mainly because it wasn't the most interesting and there was so much of it to do. But I got it done and i understand how important it is!

During the project we had a few problems, The main problem was to much background noise whilst filming. this was a big problem because some of our film clips had loud noise from the road, which didn't sound nice and it made it harder to hear the actor. How i resolved this was i went to where we where filing at different times of the day to see how busy the road was, and i managed to find out that 2:30Pm the road was quite, so the next day we went out at 2:30Pm to film and there was hardly any noise from the road, also i did a monolog, i recorded the actor's lines in an empty room, and put there voice on top of the film clip, this worked well!

I found working in a team had its up’s and down’s, I enjoyed it, but i feel we didn't communicate very well all of the time, our organisation could of been better, but overall i feel we worked well, and we managed to produce a final opening credit sequence. Next time I work in a Group, i will make sure the panning is done better and that we all have to understand what we need to do, and the deadlines. I feel this would help so we could have everything done early and then take a look at the final pice and we would be able to re-do bits we felt needing improving.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATION

• One Legal And Ethical Consideration is that in the opening credits someone gets stabbed, In The opening credits it was represented as a bad event, I feel that we represented it in a bad was a good decision, because the main concern was that we would be incurring violence and stabbings.

• Another Legal And Ethical Consideration is the age of our actors/actress, if they where under 16 we would need a consent form from there parent/guardian. So we decided that all the actors/actress would have to be over the age of 16 and where willing to be in our opening sequence.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

• For this project I feel that I developed lost of skills. I got to use equipment and software that i have never used before. like:

• Using the flip film camera’s - To do the filming.

• Using a dolly - A tripod on wheels, to film walking into college.

• Using Adobe after effects - To create the Earth Zoom.

• But for the main editing i used Final Cut, i did a lot of key framing to animate the credits, i feel that i know Final Cut a lot better and that i can key frame a lot better.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT EARTH ZOOM

• For this project I feel that I developed lost of skills. I got to use equipment and software that i have never used before. When i was doing some research looking at what people have done in different opening sequences i came across a “Earth Zoom” effect on Zombieland. I really liked this effect and i thought it would fit well in my opening sequence. So i found a tutorial online that showed how to make it, i Used Adobe after effects, i have never used Adobe after effects before, but i managed to produce the “Earth Zoom” and i am very happy with it, it took along time but i feel it was worth it!

• On the left there is a screen shot of the earth zoom in Zombieland. on the right is a screen shot of it in my opening sequence.

QUALITY OF FINAL PRODUCT

• I Think “Brookside Boarding School” is appropriate for the brief and suitable for the target audience. The relationship between the characters helps prove its suitable for the target audience. The voice over helps push Brookside Boarding School into the horror genre, that was the Genre we where aiming for!

• Looking back over at the Brief and what we had planned Brookside Boarding School would be like, I feel Brookside Boarding School drifted away from our original idea to much, We should have stuck to our main idea a lot more. The main scene in the original Brookside Boarding School we decided not to use, i now think that was a big mistake!

• I feel we focused to much on filming, and not the actual task to make a 40-90 second credit sequence. i feel that the credits them self where no where near as strong they should have been, and I feel and know i could have done a lot better making the actual credits and animating them using key framing.

QUALITY OF FINAL PRODUCT STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

• Strengths & Weaknesses:

• Weakness: The key framing for the credits, they where rolling in and out the page, this looked slightly tacky.

• Strength: The Earth Zoom. Showing new skills.

• Weakness: Some of the filing was done hand held so its slightly jerky .

• Strength: The fading transition from the zoom into the eye that turns into the earth into his eye, that turns into the earth zoom.

CONCLUSION

• Over all I enjoyed this task, I feel it had its up’s and down’s, I really enjoyed the editing and i feel i have gained many skills and have improved lots of skills.

• Looking back over at the Brief and the final clip of Brook Side Boarding school, I feel disappointed with the credits, i feel that they are quite basic, and look slightly tacky how they roll in and out every time, its gets a bit boring and looks the same. I know i can do a lot better for the credits and i should have spent longer on them. If i could go back and change bits, i would defiantly change the credits and make them look a lot more interesting and more complicated which would make them stand out and make them look better! i would also have not let us go so far away from our original idea.
