Revenge

The idea for seek revenge was not relatively anything original, as films such as

Kidulthood came before it. However to successfully produce seek revenge I had

to conduct research on films with the same genre that came before it. I looked at

Adulthood and found there where many factors within the film that I could use to portray seek revenge realistically and

engagingly! I looked at some key shots and screen grabbed them to show how I

have mimicked them to create a good opening sequence.

THE FIRST SCREEN GRAB I HAVE TAKEN IS OF A KNIFE BEING HELD, EVEN THOUGH IN ‘SR’ THE PROTAGONISTS FACE HASN’T BEEN SHOWN BUT, THE AUDIENCE CAN SENSE THE INTENSITY THROUGH THE WAY THE KNIFE IS BEING MENACINGLY PLAYED WITH. THE KNIFES ARE BOTH BEING HELD IN SIMILAR WAYS. I INCLUDED A KNIFE AS A PROP TO ADD A SENSE OF MORE DELINQUENCY WITHIN THE SEQUENCE BECAUSE IT IS SEEN AS A NEGATIVE TOOL IN TODAYS SOCIETY, THUS MAKING THE SEQUENCE MORE REALISTIC.

THE SECOND SCREEN GRAB I HAVE TAKEN ARE BOTH SHOTS OF A POLICE CAR DRIVING PAST, THE INCLUSION OF A POLICE CAR REINFORCES THE DELIQUENCY OF THE YOUTHS, IT ALSO HELPS ME TO CONVEY THE GENRE AS THE POLICE CAR AIDS IN THE REPRESENTATION OF A TYPICAL LONDON ENVIRONMENT. I ALSO FEEL THAT BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED TIME ALLOCTED FOR THE SEQUENCE ADDING A POLICE CAR IS VERY NEGATIVELY SUGGESTIVE THERFORE IT REVEALS ALOT WITHIN SECONDS.

A LONG SHOT HAS BEEN USED FOR FRAME, I MIMIKED THIS, BECAUSE I FIND IT IS A SUCCESSFUL WAY TO LET THE AUDIENCE VIEW THE SCENERY, WHICH THEY WILL BE FAMILIAR WITH, THUS MORE ENGAGED AND ABLE TO RELATE.

THE THIRD SCREEN GRAB I HAVE DONE IS A RESULT OF ALL THE CONTROVERSY SURRONDING HOODS I THOUGHT THE INCLUSION OF THE PROTAGONIST WEARING A HOOD WOULD CREATE A SENSE OF REALISM, HOODS HAVE NEGATIVE CONNOTATIONS AND ARE USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH YOUTHS LIKE THE ONES PORTRAYED IN MY SEQUENCE. FROM ADULTOOD, THE PROTAGONIST IS WEARING A BLACK HOOD, I HAVE MIMIKED THIS AS I KNOW BLACK ALSO SUGGESTS DANGER!

THE LAST SCREEN GRAB I HAVE TAKEN IS OF A LONG SHOT THAT ESTABLISHES THE MISE-EN-SCENE. IN ADULTHOOD THE PROTAGONIST IS PORTRAYED TO BE SMALL WITHIN THE FRAME, WHICH MAY SUGGEST SOCIETY IS OVER-WHELMING, THE SETTING SHOWS A TYPICAL WORKING CLASS ESTATE WHICH REFLECTS THE PROTAGONISTS LIFE AND CONFORMS TO HIS STEREOTYPE. I WANTED TO SUCCESSFULLY PORTRAY THIS IN ‘SR’ SO I FILMED THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEQUENCE IN AN AREA THAT APPEARS RUN-DOWN AND DENSLY POPULATED. I FELT THAT THIS SETTING WOULD BEST REPRESENT THE CAST BECAUSE THE STORYLINE REVOLVES AROUND ‘HOOLIGANS’. A DEBATABLE REASON FOR YOBS BEHAVIOUR IS BECAUSE OF THE AREA THEY GREW UP IN, BY SHOWING THEIR PLACE OF RESIDENCE, THEIR INTENTIONS ARE AUTOMATICALLY PERCEIVED AS BAD.

I was really pleased with the feedback received from the class, we was judged on the camera work, editing, ability to engage and sound. When I got the sheets back they read:HOW SUCCESSFUL IS THE SEQUENCE IN ENGAGING THE AUDIENCE?1.) very engaging, the voice over created narrative enigmas 2.) very successful, good up to date, gripping!3.) very engaging, lots of action, left on a cliff-hangerIS THE SEQUENCE REGONISABLE AS A FILM FROM A SPECIFIC GENRE?1.) gangster movie2.) crime, gang/ street crime3.) reality, drama/ race related OUTLINE AN OUTSTANDING FEATURE...1.) casting, voice over, quotes 2.) use of location was really good3.) the shot of the protagonist running down the stairs IMPROVED FEATURES..1.) the sound could have been smoother2.) when the group are fighting and the screen turns black, the sound is a little fuzzy.3.) the lighting was poor for the outside shots.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE IMPROVED THROUGH FURTHER POST PRODUCTION?1.) the sound on the voice over could be improved as it doesn’t flow at times.2.) the door should have a loud slamming noise so it hits the audience hard!3.)the ambulance sound is really really good!ANY OTHER COMMENTS..1.) MY VIEWI am very pleased with the feedback as most of it was very positive which has proven my media product is very engaging and fulfils its purpose, I have taken into account the areas that need to be improved I have tried to apply these to my sequence however, with limited time, I was not able to do all of them therefore there are areas that can still be improved. I found that many people where unsure of how to define the films genre but they grasped the concept, the levels where level 3-4, with a mark of 55 as the highest mark!
